@andrewweisneck1102 I know I should probably break down and get the DVD for Manimal because it will never air on TV again as far as I know. But I have seen the powers of Matthew star on TV so who knows
@judyb1539 In Manimal and The Wizard's case, it was the same plot, scene for scene with David Rappaport's Simon Mc Kay (The Wizard) in the same situation of helping a girl who was raised by wolves that Simon MacCorkandale's Jonathan Chase had been in a couple of years earlier. They just changed the title of the script and a few character names.
@judyb1539 Never say never, but it does seem unlikely in Manimal's case, being it only ran for eight episodes. A bit of trivia: they tried to make a sequel-reboot of "The greatest american hero" called "the greatest american heroine", with a young girl taking the place of Ralph after he was taken away by the aliens. It was a complete and total trainwreck, so much that they didn't get past the pilot.
Hmm. Not sure I am surprised, the original worked because Ralph was a mess and it was comedic. What do you do from there with a teen girl, also have her mess up? Or, do you basically make a version of Supergirl and make it serious with the teen being competent? Try to do both, which might seem like the sensible choice, and you would have a disaster. I am guessing that was what they tried? Or, I could be wrong, since I had no idea they even tried.

John Hart, Clayton Moore's temporary replacement appeared in the episode, "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" as The Lone Ranger.
The Voyagers aren't really superheroes, but I appreciate you including them. The device they used to travel through time was called The Omni, which was always described as a pocket watch looking device, but I always thought it looked more like a compass. The Omni was always malfunctioning which is the reason Bogg ended up in Jeffery's time of 1982, even though it supposedly only had time circuits that only went as far as 1970 until it was discovered that Jeffery was destined to become a Voyager. Blue Thunder is definitely not a superhero series, it was based on the 1983 Roy Scheider movie and inspired CBS' Airwolf.

The Greatest American Hero fought a ghost and her Beast In The Black, a magnetic monster and like The Six Million Dollar Man, Andre The Giant until he passed his supersuit on to his successor, The Greatest American Heroine. He also teamed up with another superhero, Captain Bellybuster. Man From Atlantis had Mr. Schubert, played by Victor Buono who previously played King Tut on Batman.. Electra Woman & Dyna-Girl had The Sorcerer, The Pharaoh, Spider Lady, Glitter Rock, Ali Baba and The Empress Of Evil.
I noticed that too as a kid. Its why I liked the Batman show from the 60s (on rerun-I wasn't that old). I think it was the only superhero live action show to have the comic book villains. The Superman show (from the 50s) didn't even have Lex Luthor! (Granted, most of the iconic baddies for Supes came out in the Silver Age, so they weren't invented yet, but still) That said, Spiderman was a favourite show of mine (that along with the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew show and Battlestar Galactica were my go-tos) Knowing how hard the effects were, I know Doc Ock or Rhino wouldn't be making an appearance
You forgot The Phoenix, Sword Of Justice, Lucan, Starman, Black Scorpion, The Highwayman, Captain Nice, Mr. Terrific, Jack Of All Trades, Timecop, Robocop, M.A.N.T.I.S., The Secret World Of Alex Mack, Ocean Girl, Commander USA's Groovie Movies, Captain Justice from Once A Hero, My Secret Identity, Bigfoot And Wildboy, Queen Of Swords and The Invisible Man (1975) and (2000).
@SJHFoto I was out of the target age too, but I collected the Alex Mack books and DVD set and still watch Nickelodeon for The Thundermans (Kira Kosarin specifically), Henry Danger, The Adventures Of Kid Danger, Danger Force and occasionally when they would rerun I Am Frankie. I also liked Warped and Side Hustle. As a lifelong comic book collector, these superhero related TV series appeal to me. I also liked The Disney Channel series, Mighty Med, Lab Rats Elite Force, Best Friends Whenever and Secrets Of Sulphur Springs (I also can't resist time travel shows). I just wish Disney XD didn't cancel The Villians Of Valley View and Ultraviolet And Black Scorpion on a cliffhanger.
@@andrewweisneck1102 You know what my kids sci-fi show of the 90s was? Space Cases! I hated that Star Trek Voyager got home, but Space Cases didn't. Back in the 90s, someone wrote a very well thought out season 3 of space cases-I printed it and have it somewhere in my room
I wasn't going to count superhero series that originally came from comic books like, Spider-Man, Shazam!, Isis, etc, only original TV superheroes, but you forgot Human Target (1992) & (2010), Mutant X (Based On X-Men), Sable, Supaidaman, Night Man and Spidey Super Stories.
I did not know many of these. - Who where not translated into german. - But I really liked the others. ... At the man from Atlantis you forget Schubert, the most peculiar supervillian I remember. ... I like Streethawk much better than Nightrider or Airwolf. ... A main thing about Captain Power was, that it was directed by Michael Straczynski and had some points later refered to in Babylon 5. ... I bought a DVD-box with Misfits of Science ("Die Spezialisten unterwegs" in german) just half a year ago. (You mix up the roles.) *lol* ... But talking about old superheroes, I miss Ultraman. ;-)
I just got a chance to watch this straight thru-you made some big mistakes! Misfits of Science: The rock star had the electric powers, not shrinking! And the one who shrank wasn't "a former basketball player"! He was a scientist too! In fact, one episode was talking about how embarrassed he was being over 7' tall, Black, and NOT being able to play basketball! Still, I appreciate your spotlighting these shows-many of them I watched as a kid
@@andrewweisneck1102 In that episode, he played BADLY. Billy had to give him tips, and the goal he scored at the end was the payoff (and even he said he had no idea how he did it)
Matthew Star also had the power to leave his body in astral form. His other powers are similar to the powers of The Man With The Power played by Bob Neill in 1977.
@alexphillips4644 I had an Ultraman Halloween Costume from Collegeville Costumes when I was a kid in the early 70s. I used to watch Ultraman every night (5:30 PM) on WPHL 17 and was the only kid who knew of his existence in my school because most of the people I knew, didn't know there were more than 13 channels at the time. When we had a Halloween party at school, the kids took turns going into the closet to change into their costumes. When it was my turn, I burst out of the closet like when Hayata used his Beta Capsule to change into Ultraman and the teacher spun me around to take a look at my costume and said, "There IS an Ultraman!" as if I had made it up.
Love this; however surprised you didn't mention a few things: 1) The secret of Isis as you showed a clip was a spin off off SHAZAM! Boys yelled that girls said, the Isis chant. 2) shazam rebooted in movie series so not forgotten. 3) compared Street Hawk to Knight Rider but not enclude as a forgotten hero. And I watched the show wishing Silver Hawk woild team up with him. (the Japanese female version for those that don't know). 4) Before Blue Thunder there was Airwolf. 5) before Future Cop was Six Million Dollars Man they as you repeated covered same man vs Technology topics. 6) Electra Woman & Dyna Girl was rebooted therefore not forgotten. 7) Voyagers was the United States attempt at a Doctor Who at that time. They didn't get it then and don't get it now. That's why all our time travel related heroes flop. Closest to get it wad Quantum Leap and that stalled and the reboot sucks. I keep calling Voyagers by the wrong name "Time Bandits". Love the video though. Cute how the younger generation sees our shows.
@MikeDixon-bv9dr Blue Thunder was a 1983 movie first before the 1984 TV series. The Blue Thunder movie premiered May 13, 1983. The Blue Thunder TV series premiered January 6, 1984 and Airwolf premiered January 22, 1984. Both Blue Thunder and Airwolf came after Firefox which premiered June 18, 1982. It was based on a book from 1977.
@MikeDixon-bv9dr Shazam! (Captain Marvel) was not forgotten because he was still appearing in comic books before and after the TV series. After the show ended, he appeared in the Legends Of The Superheroes specials in 1979. He also appeared in The Kid Super Power Hour With Shazam! in 1981 and an episode of The Drew Carey Show before the movies were released. He first appeared in live action in The Adventures Of Captain Marvel in 1941. He also had a set of Underoos and a Mego action figure in the 70s.
@andrewweisneck1102 you missed my point. The morals/issues of the shows were the same or not the character exactly what they were. Quantum Leap and Doctor Who both dealt with time travel and putting things right. The fact they were not the same exactly my point. Hollywood trying to capitalize on Doctor Who long running success and although made a good show it Still only lasted the standard 5 seasons; whereas Doctor Who is 60+years running with a minor hiccup. BTW; Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
@MikeDixon-bv9dr By that logic, you might as well have Included Back To The Future, The episode of Star Trek, "The City On The Edge Of Forever", Timeless and Time Express. Voyagers! Is much more like Doctor Who as Jeffrey Jones is like Phineas Bogg (The Doctor)'s companion, but I don't recall The Doctor actually trying to change History. The Doctor had The Tardis and Bogg and Jeffrey had The Omni. Sam Beckett after he leaped from The Quantum Leap Project, was kind of on his own. The same goes for Ben Song. But, that reminds me that BBC America is having their yearly Doctor Who Christmas marathon right now. Also, Merry Christmas to you as well. 🎅 🎄
I loved The Greatest American Hero. Sure haven't forgotten that one, I was a huge fan. And The Man from Atlantis, yessss. I could not watch Dallas without thinking about that. Steve Austin, The Six Million Dollar Man, my favorite tv show at that time. I even had the action dolls. And I KNEW Matthew Star was included, haha, I hated that show btw.... Just like Blue Thunder, not forgotten, but also didn't like it. The other shows I did forget, or, more likely, they were never aired in the Netherlands. I am from 1964 by the way.
Like I said about Misfits of science the main two characters Dr Billy Hayes and his friend there play by Kevin Peter Hall and Dean Paul Martin unfortunately both died if I remember correctly they were supposed to come back for a second season but after Dean Paul Martin died in airplane crash during hiatus there was plans that they'd find a way to replace him but then I believe it's Kevin Peter Hall died in a car accident. And that is how the show got canceled it was in fact the first row that Courteney Cox got and the thing that was nice about it is Dean Paul Martin who was Dean Martin's son helped her find an apartment when she couldn't find one. By accounts he was a really nice guy and it was a really fun show.
Man From Atlantis did not influence Aquaman. Aquaman came first in DC comics in 1941 and had his own animated series in 1967 even before he appeared on Super Friends in 1973. Man From Atlantis also did not influence Marvel Comics' Sub-Mariner who first appeared in 1939 and had his own animated series in 1966 before he appeared in live action in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).
@safiremorningstar Blue Thunder aired on Friday nights on ABC in 1984. Airwolf aired on CBS on Saturday nights in 1984 until it moved to the USA Network for season 4 in 1987 where it aired on Friday nights featuring Team Airwolf.
I remember Misfits of science and I really liked it and it was sad that they couldn't bring it back because the main lead had died doing his duty he was a pilot in the civil Air corps and he's been called up to fly and unfortunately something went wrong with his airplane and he died shortly after that the guy who was the big guy in that he also was in a car accident and died.
Voyagers was great unfortunately NBC did not have enough faith in it and killed it and because of it the actor who played in it had to pick up a different show and the show he picked up had a co-star who was far better as a cover-up girl than a actress she couldn't even do her line she was that bad and yet instead of replacing her they kept her and because of keeping her and her lack of ability to act out of a paper bag she caused his death I mean he got so bored he fell asleep and unfortunately he woke up and nobody had taught him correctly that you don't put a gun anywhere near your face even if it's a prop gun and unfortunately he died from it he thought a gun with blanks has no bullets and therefore if he pretended to shoot himself in the head nothing would happen...the saddest thing is I knew from one of my fellow students in high school who was studying to be a stunt man that the first thing he was taught and he was really upset that they didn't teach it always well to actors and he said he used to upset his teacher great deal was the fact that you never put anything not even a chocolate gun to your head Charleston case one time you may forget and you might actually hurt yourself as we see with John Ericson that's exactly what happened.
I remember the powers of Matthew Star as well I was in junior high or high school I forget which it was fun but it didn't last and the truth is it wasn't going to last it just it didn't have enough to it there were too many other things that were better than it on.
I do not remember Captain power and whatever I just don't remember it I don't remember hearing it I don't remember seeing it it must not have been on at a time when I could see it so more than likely it was on cable because if it was on a regular time it must not have been on one of the ones I was watching.
@safiremorningstar Captain Power And The Soldiers of The Future was a syndicated series that aired on Saturday mornings that was used to sell Captain Power toys that interacted with the show by sending signals to the toys to make them light up and blow apart. I have the series on DVD, but the images look blurrier than when the show aired. Fun Fact: Tim Dunnigan, who played Captain Power, was the first actor to play Face on The A-Team, but was replaced by Dirk Benedict because he didn't look old enough to have served in Vietnam. He later played Davy Crockett in the Disney series before he retired from acting. His Captain Power co-star, Jessica Steen who played Corporal Jennifer "Pilot" Chase, later appeared on the NBC series, Earth 2, Mutant X and a couple of episodes of Charmed and the Charmed reboot. Continuity Comics published two issues of Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future drawn by the late Neal Adams. Issue number one had a cover variant.

(Granted, most of the iconic baddies for Supes came out in the Silver Age, so they weren't invented yet, but still)
That said, Spiderman was a favourite show of mine (that along with the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew show and Battlestar Galactica were my go-tos) Knowing how hard the effects were, I know Doc Ock or Rhino wouldn't be making an appearance
@SJHFoto Lex Luthor appeared in the Atom Man Vs Superman movie serial with Kirk Alyn in 1950, played by Lyle Talbot.
@@andrewweisneck1102 I am aware of this. I said the show from the 50s, not the serials
Some of those were 90s. I liked Alex Mack, but I was already out of the target age by then
@@andrewweisneck1102 M.A.N.T.I.S. was one of my favorites! That power suit completely rocked.
@JeanHoehn He kind of ripped off the earlier Exo-Man (1977) though.
But talking about old superheroes, I miss Ultraman. ;-)
Dana Carvey is the last surviving cast member of Blue Thunder.
@SJHFoto I think he did play Basketball in one episode and he was tired of not being able to sleep in a normal sized bed.
I'm kinda surprised that no Japanese tokusatsu shows from the 1970s and 1980s made the list like Spectreman, Lion-Maru, Tiger 7, etc.
Ultra Man Ace.
Space Giants and Johnny Sokko.
@@manchuriancandybar864 Ultraman is NEVER forgotten.
I don't know about the States, but none of those were available in Canada back then. I do miss Supergran though (a Scottish show from the 80s)
Love this; however surprised you didn't mention a few things:
1) The secret of Isis as you showed a clip was a spin off off SHAZAM!
@@MikeDixon-bv9dr Future Cop was not human.
Electra Woman & Dyna-Girl were rebooted twice.
Quantum Leap is nothing like Doctor Who.
Even though Blue Thunder was also a movie and came out first, I think Airwolf was a much more badazz helicopter. Imo
Fun Fact: Patrick Duffy wrote a Man From Atlantis book in 2016.
No mention of The Bionic Woman?
Was the Costume from the First Show a Red Lantern Costume? Thought the Red Lantern Corps and it's Logo was invented late 90's or early 2000's
Never saw blue thunder but that's probably because if it was up against airwolf I was busy watching that.
@safiremorningstar Blue Thunder aired on Friday nights on ABC in 1984.
Airwolf aired on CBS on Saturday nights in 1984 until it moved to the USA Network for season 4 in 1987 where it aired on Friday nights featuring Team Airwolf.
Zephyr winds that blow on high
Lift me now so I can fly
Need to watch these. TV shows are getting boring.
@safiremorningstar Kevin Peter Hall who played the big guy who shrinks, died from pneumonia caused by AIDS from a tainted blood transfusion.
Most of this shows are streaming.
bruh what if someone brought back these hold heroes in modern times and have them in a shared universe XD
Why American Hero got a Chinese character as logo?
