  • One of the biggest trades in NHL history just went down, sending one of the league's top players, Mikko Rantanen, to a new team. But what does this mean for the teams involved-and the league as a whole?

But it has passed us now and I think the two "less important" guys that got traded are doing pretty well with their new teams. Drury already has two goals for Avs and Hall has a point for Carolina and has looked pretty good in his line. (Yes I know Mikko also has a point for canes). I'm not saying Mikko nor Neacs won't do good I'm just saying Drury and Hall have done a little better so far, and it's also really early.

@@cal8362 and how good was Rantenan on D? I don’t think he knows what backchecking means. Yeah, Necas has been on ice for a lot of goals against. He isn’t used to the Colorado system. He will get used to it, though. And he’s so damn fast he’ll be able to get back, help, and still go forward. Plus those goals were usually caused by defensive lapses. Not him. His zone entries are way better than Mikko’s have been this season. They’re better than even Mackinnon’s, especially on the PP. At least so far. We’ll have to wait and see how it turns out. Makar didn’t have a great +/- last year, and none of the Avs are soaring in that department. There’s an adjustment period for new players. I think adding someone that actually wins most of his faceoffs (drury, because NO ONE on the Avs can aside from him) and someone who works as hard as Necas will help. Look at their power play already. It looks ten times better with him on it. Look at Mikko’s effort in the playoffs last year, and his effort this regular season. He’s let a lot of pucks slip out of the zone, and went offside a ridiculous amount of times, made sloppy passes, doesn’t reach for the puck sometimes. It looked lackluster this season. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll miss him, but sometimes teams and players alike need something new. Things can get stale. And everyone knows now that Mackinnon zoomed around and hit Mikko on the right. It’s like that’s the only play they knew anymore. I think Mackinnon kind of stagnated and stopped shooting as much and just dished to Mikko. I believe they’d both have even more points this season if things hadn’t stagnated. They’re both incredible. Those two should be putting up stupid numbers again, like last season, at least, if not more.
I also am not sure about the points thing, but Mikko will not have Mackinnon, Makar, Toews, and Drouin constantly feeding him pucks anymore, after they worked to create space for him, and he won’t have Nuke and Lekky in front to finish rebounds or tips off of his shots. That would lower his point production a bit unless he starts playing with more effort in CAR. And Necas on the Avs is now another player like Mack that creates space. And seems really good at it. He opens up so much ice. Then he’s dishing to Mackinnon and Makar. That gives those guys more opportunities to shoot instead of pass now. But they are still playmakers as well, and will dish to Necas. This would, in theory, boost Necas’ production. He’s not far behind Mikko in points. Everyone is acting like Mikko was miles ahead of him, but at the trade Mikko was at 64, and Necas was at 55. Necas has had 4 assists and Mikko has had 1 since the trade.
So, no. It’s not a stupid take whatsoever. Carolina is good. But they don’t have a Mackinnon, or a Makar, let alone the other studs, to constantly be feeding Rantanen for one timers in his “office.” Besides, him sitting in that right circle and trying to hammer one timers (as long as they were perfect passes right in the wheelhouse and not an inch outside, because then he’d give up this season) hadn’t netted them ANY PP goals in what was it, 25 or something power plays. It was insane. They finally went 1/2 in that Nyr game. And the second pp actually looked exciting. Kept the puck in, and recovered the zone after nyr cleared it. Which has seemed like an impossible task lately. They actually broke back into the zone quickly. Those things were because of Necas not despite him. So, again, no, it’s not a stupid take.

Rantanen isn't draisaitl so the fact they were using drai as mikkos "market value" is why this deal fell through. Rantanens bullish agent is probably to blame for all of this. He genuinely is not worth more than 12m per season. He has lapses in his defensive play, he often goes stretches of game with low effort, and he can't play center.

The Avs are good offensive team, but there is no depth in the bottom six for the Avs. I love Colorado and getting talent players such as Necas and Drury to add depth to your roster is a smart move, but trading someone who is in their prime, putting up 100 point season and could potentially be a Hall of Fame player is like a double edged sword. The Avalanche are still struggling with puck control and the power play being 2 for their last 33 chances, the team is hoping for a jackpot at the trade deadline, now their could be a chance for Mikko to come back to Colorado in the offseason if he has a fluke performance with the Hurricanes, but that’s one in a hundred million chances for that to happen. It does suck to see a player who was with the team get traded, but hopefully Mikko can be the prime player that he is and help Carolina win their second Stanley Cup.

😅 if you think a 3rd round pick is all Chicago is gonna end up with when plays out 3 to 5 years down the road...your're crazy 😅 The Chicago Blackhawks have fed every team in this league players since expansion before expansion...you're Welcome Boston 😂 dont get it twisted and learn some history bud.
The fact is the Chicago Blackhawks win and lose when on their terms... when we decide to be contenders again, we will take what is ours. THIS IS OUR LEAGUE, just be happy the Hawks (hate us all you want, but as a Blackhawks fan we dont care because we know who's Boss 😅) aren't greedy and they give every team a chance to play...make no mistake, the Chicago Blackhawks will back.
