Important to highlight Thomas Gradin's huge role in all this! He returned to the Canucks as a scout in 1994 and has been their top European scout since 1998. He's had a big hand in every Canucks draft selection out of Sweden since Ohlund - he's the one who convinced Burke to move mountains to draft both Sedins in 1999, and convinced Benning to pick Pettersson over Cody Glass in 2017, etc.. Seems like he's quietly started stepping back from scouting in recent years and just retired this offseason, so especially timely to acknowledge the massive legacy he leaves within the organization as a builder in addition to his accomplishments for the team on the ice. Also worth adding that the Sedins rejoined the Canucks hockey ops as advisors in 2021 and have taken on increasing responsibilities to support the coaching staff and player development program for the team. And Nils Aman was another Swede on the roster for the majority of last season, playing in 43 games plus 5 more in the playoffs.
I came here to say all of the above… Thomas Gradin has done incredible work behind the scenes and having the scenes (and was hugely underrated really as a player as he was a slight built guy playing in a rough and tumble conference and era, and would've thrived in the modern game. Having the being active with the coaching staff should continue to improve the skill of so many players, especially as the Canucks are choosing deeper in the draft and have to make every pick count (yes, I'm super aware of the dodgy draft history in years past)

I was also going to point that out, but then again he's really just a footnote in hockey at this point, and only if you live in Vancouver or Pittsburgh. Interesting to note that Stojanov was actually taken eight places higher than Naslund in the same draft.
And this is the main reason why they don't win the cup. Regular season the Swedes are amazing, come playoffs, the whistle goes away and the Swedes do not turn it up a skootch. Many Swedes are amazing but become quite during playoffs.
Probably why they can't win a cup....u need Canadian skill, grit, speed, and heart to win a cup. Similar to when mats Sundin was captain of the Leafs....I knew for certain that him as your leader is not gonna win you a cup. Petterson is a top centre in the league? Are we talking about the same guy?
make a video on dallas being addicted to finland
Just wait. The Blues will Swedish soon as well
I am Canadian but love the Bruins so I don't know about the B's going out and getting a swede and a russian I can hope I guess
They had the brains to grab Zadorov. he shows up BIG TIME in the post season, too. but hey, he and a Swedeheart. Am in on a rant yet? No? just wait Til the puck drops
@ 10:52 🤔 Markstrom left to play in CalGareLEE .... 🤷🏻 uuhhmmm, WHAT !!!? 🤦🏻
Van loves swedes who make up a majority of their cap and disappear in t he playoffs
Gavin, you might like my posts here. All in the last 30 minutes. One thing I will say for Swedes, they don't give you a lot of grief. but I like the Richie Sutters of this game. My fav' Canuck of all time: STEAMERRRR!! Heart and grit are very under rated today and 'Talent' is over rated. Also, do our Swedes ever get through the playoffs without injuries?? Edler, EP40, et cetera
It's pronounced Stoya-nov lol
I was also going to point that out, but then again he's really just a footnote in hockey at this point, and only if you live in Vancouver or Pittsburgh. Interesting to note that Stojanov was actually taken eight places higher than Naslund in the same draft.
Is there another team that focused on Finland? 😄
you should do a video on why dallas has so many finns
and San Jose has so many Sharks
a likely place for them to be
that's why they have 0 cups
You read my post and copy pasted??? Good to see some guys are still able to think things through.
they want that BSC
Because we can actually cpmpete with the the best of the best in canada or sweden ? xD King Henrik!!!!!
And this is the main reason why they don't win the cup. Regular season the Swedes are amazing, come playoffs, the whistle goes away and the Swedes do not turn it up a skootch. Many Swedes are amazing but become quite during playoffs.
Metaballs with PASTA??? Consider this swede severely triggered
Cause Swede draft picks adjust well because of the similar shitty, gloomy weather.
Maybe we can have a team like the Kraken become addicted to Norwegians next
Maybe they should be more addicted to winning a freaking Stanley Cup???
When Vegas won that cup. how many Euros did they have on that team/ i ask cuz i am not sure
7 Europeans, the rest were mainly Canadian with a few Americans.
They enjoy falling short of a cup?
🇸🇪
Leafs are more know for the leafs since salming go leafs go
can we have läkrimäki back to örebro please
Because nobody else is lmao
Well looking at crime and drug statistics, Vancouver is basically Sweden so it makes sense!
Probably why they can't win a cup....u need Canadian skill, grit, speed, and heart to win a cup. Similar to when mats Sundin was captain of the Leafs....I knew for certain that him as your leader is not gonna win you a cup. Same can't be said about Tampa (Hedman) but if you look at the actual scoring stats of the Tampa glory yrs, it was a Canadian centre who carried the offense. No offense to Swedes...I love them but they do lack the necessary formula to carry a team to the cup, for the most part
Öman and Karlsson?
“Tom” Willander, not “Tim”
You actually didn’t tell us why you told us what and who
