- Saint-Saëns’ A-major Violin Concerto (composed in 1859, the year after his C-major Concerto) was the first of a series of works that he wrote. This Concerto reveals several of Saint- Saëns' characteristic progressive traits, particularly the cyclic development of themes throughout a piece and inventive formal compression.

The most annoying thing for anybody who is seriously interested in classical music, must be, if the artists / performers are ignored, by not having been given credit or not having been being mentioned at all...
Ulf Hoelscher, violin - New Philharmonia Orchestra, Pierre Dervaux
Saint-Saëns ‘music is incomparable to that of any composer whether previous or contemporary. His music, given its particularities, corresponded to giving its own and new individuality to the French music from then now. This 1st and the 2th concertos, although by many considered works inferior to the 3rd, are still masterpieces where the harmony is intertwined with more energetic parts in a sublime way. Saint-Saëns was without doubt an amazing composer.
The violinist is magnificent, not only for the sensibility he imprints on the theme but also the fantastic virtuosity he demonstrates. The orchestra and its direction are excellent. Viva the Saint-Saëns music. Thanks for this magnificent recording.
That the Rondo Capriccioso should have been intended as a coda to this piece is wonderful to contemplate.
Philippe Graffin (violin), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Martyn Brabbins (conductor)
No, you wrong. Theviolinist is Ulf Hoelscher.

Saint-Saens wrote truly vibrant dynamic music.
Beautiful performance of this gorgeous, contemplative work- I would love to hear this live in the concert hall! Thank you for posting!
So so so beautiful!
1:07 waaaaaa amazing
I remember learning this and the octave jumps were the hardest thing for me. And then in the middle, those octave double stops were so difficult. So much fun to play though
thank you for your comment- I read in one music review that the reviewer {probably in American Music Guide} a comment that Saint-Saens wrote for the violin "as if he invented the instrument" -that the writing was so perfectly suited to it! Saint-Saens himself attributed his knowledge of the violin to his study about it with Pablo de Sarasate.
Thanks for the upload
Saint Saens wrote three concertos for violin. All three are technically perfect, but their inspiration is uneven. One considrs generally that the third one is by far the most beautiful and that the two first ones are less good - which I tend to consider too. This should not diminish the interest that we might have for that work.
One would be wrong to make that consideration. It is a matter of preference.
@@andrewpetersen5272 No 2 is gorgeous
Welcome back!
Thanks.. glad to share the music I enjoy
who is the soloist and orchestra?
Ulf Hoelscher, violin - New Philharmonia Orchestra, Pierre Dervaux
I'm pretty sure it's Ulf Hoelsher's 1977 performance with Pierre Dervaux and New Philharmonia.
yes Arkady, that is my guess as well. I recognize his playing. I have this recording as part of a complete violin works by Saint Saens. I'm pretty sure I have it reissued on cd as well.
Yeah, that obviously Ulf Hoelscher.

Welcher Geiger spielt, welches Orchester spielt?
This is just one movement?
Not at all. It is already 3 movements. The second (Andante espressivo) begins somewhere around 4.15, and the third (Reprise) begins at 7.55 on this recording.
The first movement sounds almost folk-ish
Orquesta Sinfónica de Montreal, Charles Dutoit, Kyung-wha Chung (1981).

Who the hell is playing? Not to mention this is ridiculous....
What's ridiculous? Also why the ellipsis......................
@@RachaelLongLastName Because it is very strange to post something without mentioning soloist, conductor and orchestra: the performers....
@@hectorberlioz1449 when you say “who the hell is playing?” That is one question or critique and then to add “Not to mention this is ridiculous” comes off as a separate statement. Also what about the ellipsis................................. Not to mention how ridiculous.............
@@RachaelLongLastName You have to become an English teacher!
@@hectorberlioz1449 Maybe lol
Thanks for the upload! Also thought you were completely gone, glad to see that isn't true. :)
