      I agree. I spent longer than I care to admit, trying to put this thing on, and couldn't get the black bar to come down to level. The manual mentions that, but I don't recall it showing that the RIVING KNIFE needed to be adjusted in that way...

    I spent almost 15 minutes trying to get that piece on (probably closer to 30, but my wife doesn't know that), until I decided to look for help on RUclips. After watching, pausing and adjusting it as you demonstrated, I had the saw running within 10 minutes. THANK YOU for spending your time, having the patience, and offering great instructions. for those not understanding this and why it took a long time for people to figure out is that the riving knife has to positions, a lower and a upper. the lower position is for non-through cuts, and the higher is for through cuts and even for me as a beginner at the table saw I didn't read the instructions correctly. that the gaurd needs to be in the upper position not lower. However most people including I didn't know what position it was in taking it out of the package. Which they have it in the lower position. When cutting in non-through cuts the gaurd is actually removed. When I was going through the steps of like replacing the blade and the gaurd and all that, i figured out that the riving knife was in the lower position. So, i just rose it to the upper position and bam, the gaurd went on perfect. If you use it incorrectly it will shoot out on kickback. luckily for me I was not standing in front of the machine. :)

    The instructions do say to pull the riving knife in the up position, but I'll be damned If I knew before watching this video that YOU gotta pull it up(One would assume it would be set ready to go). My blade guard was always pointing up from the front and even took to trying to adjust the little nut on the lever. On the lever forward (front of machine) means unlocked and back means locked. If you can't get bladeguard parallel then the riving knife is not in the up position. Thank you!

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  3 года назад

      Mike, you want to use the guard. It's worth it. Set it up with the guard. In some cases you can take the guard off to cut, but then put it back on. It the blade catches the wood, it can fire the wood piece back at you with a lot of force. I had that happen many years ago on an old saw a friend let me use. There was no blade guard. The 2x4 got bound up and fired the board backward and the board went through a glass screen door in my garage. I learned a lesson.

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  3 года назад +2

      Abe. Many times the saw will be good out of the box, but not always. You should check squareness of the blade to the table top. You'll need a carpenters square for that. Here's another video that I watched to square the blade and the cutting fence. It's really good. ruclips.net/video/hS-6jcOA9nw/видео.html

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  3 года назад +1

      Abe, I added a couple links in the description for a carpenters square and a speed square. These are the tools you need to square the saw blade and fence for perfect cuts. They are also good for other projects. Good to have around.

      If you crank the blade up higher, larger pieces of would can go through. Also, make sure you lock the blade guard in place with the little black lever. You may have pushed the blade guard lock in the wrong direction. Try it in the other direction because the blade guard should not come off easy.

    Nice video but I think there may be an error with your video that could be very dangerous. Unless Ryobi has recently changed the mechanism, at 2:47 when you talk about locking the black lever down I believe you’re actually unlocking it. On mine the position towards the front of the saw is unlocked but allows the guard to sit loosely down into the correct position, but I can still lift my guard until I lock it back (with some force) which makes the guard unable to rise back out of the holes. Everything else in the video was great but please check on this if you get a chance.

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  3 года назад +1

      Ben, you are absolutely correct. I realized that after I made the video (but you can't edit it after you publish it) I did write notes in the description about that error. I also did closed caption titling for that section that says the knob should be pushed the other way. It felt right when I was shooting the video, but I quickly realized afterward. Good catch!

      I really like it. This one only has 1 miter gauge slot. I wish it had 2 (one on each side), but it don't. Not much of a big deal for me. Other than that, I think it's great. For the price, you really cannot find a better saw. If you don't mind spending more money, the next model up has 2 miter gauge slots

    Great video! Exactly what I was looking for. I wonder what the point of the blade guard upper lock is? I'm talking about the lock position you show being released by pushing down on the clear plastic parts at the end of the setup....kinda feels like you're gonna break it. I wonder why that upper position exists?

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, some of it seems a little fragile, but nothing has broken or come apart. Feels like it's well built. I think that lock keeps it from coming off should you jar it a little hard with a board. After looking at everything in and around this price range, this really is a good saw for the money. Just finished a project and the saw worked out great.

    I'm a new woodworker so this may be a very basic question. I NEVER see the pros on YT use a blade guard. Is there a reason not to have it on? I just bought a Grrripper and so it looks like that would be incompatible with the blade guard.

    • @mrags99
      @mrags99  10 месяцев назад

      The blade guard is just a safety device that can protect you from an accident. It's like a bike helmet or a seat belt. Not using one doesn't mean you'll get hurt. It's just added protection. The Grripper seems like a nice tool. I always use a push stick whenever I use a table saw. The only thing to remember about the Pros is that many of them do a lot of things wrong. Many of them do jobs "their way". Many don't read manuals because they have been a tradesman for a long time, they feel like they already know how to do it. (of course, this is just a segment of the tradesman). But remember, always wear safety glasses whenever cutting wood. I think you'll be fine using the Grripper without the blade guard. It's a safety tool in itself.

    The black lever on mine (to hold the guard in place) goes in the OPPOSITE direction- towards the back of the saw, not front. If lever is forward, guard can disengage. May be a model difference or something. So... check your saw carefully.
