I can understand why you have that impression, but "real music" is still alive - if you know where to look. Unfortunately, yes, the music that is force-fed to the masses is often complete dreck, a big business brand with no real soul. However, bubbling under the surface are many fine artists still making quality music. You just have to dig a little deeper, but they are worth seeking out.

Thanks for taking the time to share your personal insights and recent experience Jeff. Brian Wilson is indeed amazing and one of a kind! Enjoyed reading your review as posted on JournaldeQuebec. It's spot on regarding every historic detail and beautifully captures the epic spirit and moment with Brian Wilson you recently attended. Thanks for sharing it.
I grew up listening to every single record my parents collected, leading to a life long obsession. The Beach Boys saved me in so many ways through my 45 years so far God only knows!! Thank you!
This is THE song that Paul McCartney said is the BEST Beach Boys song that he ever heard in his life.....and he also had wished that it was him that wrote it! That says it all right there about his respect for Brian, The Beach Boys and 'Pet Sounds'.
Absolutely one of the very best songs of all time. (Paul McCartney called this the best song ever written.) Listen to the song construction to see why, between the sweet love song, the rhythms and counter-rhythms, layers of sound, and that voice. Still get goosebumps after all these years. Best listened to in "Hi Fi", big sound... Genius.
juantailor True enough. Even PM's "Ram" evokes 'pet sounds', no? :-) There's a great version of Brian singing this on a solo album, also sweet. As for McCartney's love of this song (syncopation, harmonies, etc.), give a listen to a HQ recording of this (loud) where you can hear the roundness of that bass line ("all about that bass"!) interacting with the Wilson wall of sound, just as the Beatles were immersed in Martin's. Great rhythm, background, and... a one-of-a-kind soulful song inspired by pure genius. Glad to see people tuning in - maybe for the first time.
Classic Junk That's gotta be so terrible. You know he's deaf in one ear? It's his stupid dad's fault. I imagine that's why Brian always talks out of one side of his mouth if you watch him closely in interviews.
Harrold Allen The stroke was a rumor. Brian developed dyskinesia by 1983 as a result of drug prescriptions. Regardless, he was talking out of the corner of his mouth before those days anyway. I like your channel, Harold.
Mike Adams, a great dedication to all three Wilson Brothers including Brian. The song wouldn't have existed without his musical and lyrical genius as you well stated. WTG Brian and the boys! Rest in Peace Dennis and Carl!
One of the remarkable songs of my 64 years...........was 15 when it came out. It's a signature song of my teens during a turbulent history in time (the 60s).....It continues to lift me up when I hear it..............Carl Wilson RIP
+M Angel Thanks for your greatly appreciated kind words and sentiments Angel. It never ceases to amaze me the fond memories people have attached to this which are as beautiful and magnificent as the song itself. It's joyful reading thru all the comments for that reason alone.
This song is so beautiful. Brian Wilson is so blessed with a gift to write the most poignant songs ever written. This song is full of love and emotion. It always makes me so teary-eyed whenever I hear it! I LOVE IT!
Oh how I ❤this song .Was 6 years old when it was released when a 💝song was one!🎉The unmistakable beautiful harmonies and melody of the Wonderful Beach Boys!Wow!🙏👏👌🤝✌👍😍😇👊
I can't quite put into words the feelings this evoked in me as an 8 year old. Strangely beautiful, mysterious, melancholic, yearning, crying, elation; maybe. I sensed it had an unearthly element. Some of of those feelings remain - as I approach 56.
You took the words out of my mouth! I was 9 when I heard this, and the memories this song brings to me are crystal clear, just like I was back with my family. I even think I knew what I was doing the first time I heard this, it is that powerful!
I remember summer holidays in north wales, lying in the caravan bed and listening to dads transistor radio tuned to radio caroline out at sea.The fading in and out of the signal seemed to give this song a magical dreamlike sound that has stayed with me to this day,the sun the sea the sound the feeling..pure magic.
You're very lucky having such a wise, experienced and well-cultured teacher who cared enough to share such an epic gift of musical history. The passing-along of such meaningful life experiences between generations allows us to escape the confines & limitations of our own brief lifetime thereby broadening our strategic knowledge of the universe in leaps & bounds. In a genuine way it's like having access to your own TIME MACHINE which profoundly enriches the overall quality of life in so many far reaching ways. Thanks for sharing your experience and duly paying such thoughtful homage to your devoted teacher, Karrie!
You're absolutely right about that Alex and I couldn't agree more. Songs have an extraordinarily powerful and unique ability to transport us back in time to a particular event or experience we went thru--usually an especially happy one. This point becomes immediately clear upon simply reading the overwhelming number of happy such comments on this webpage BB fans have generously shared with one another. I believe this unique characteristic is the main reason why people particularly love their favorite songs so intensely. They connect us with special epic moments from our past and eventually others to follow in our future. The songs serve as a vehicle which allows us to effortlessly revisit and relive those special moments at will. "A slice of time" as you so eloquently phrased it. What a great title and underlying theme for a new song that'd make! Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle" comes immediately to mind and illustrates the concept rather nicely. Thanks for sharing your very cool observation and thoughts on this subject. You're a remarkably perceptive and very cool person.
This was one of the songs played at my sister Tara's funeral. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. But ultimately, happy x Thank you for sharing and also the lovely words you wrote
Today, June 5, 2015, I'll be going to see "Love and Mercy," the story of Brian and 'the boys,' my dearest friends and associates for over 52 years. I've contributed to approximately 9 books on the group, along with A&E's "Biography" of Brian and E! Entertainment's "True Hollywood Story: The Beach Boys." The David Leaf and Timothy White books remain my favorites over the years. I was also honored to be a part of a two volume DVD on "Brian Wilson, Songwriter." Knowing 'the boys' as few have had the good fortune of doing, has been a true blessing. When I go to the concerts--be it Mike and Bruce, AJ or BW, I feel a strange presence, often a chilling one, and I'll say to myself, "well, Denny and CW are here, I feel it in the goose bumps that come over me. The magical 20 years I spent with the guys on the road, in the studio, in their homes--while they were all alive--are special times I'll never forget--and I'm truly blessed that God put me in the right place at the right time to share all those great memories, but above all, the special friendship and bond that existed between us all. I hope the movie does BW and the legacy of CW and DW justice. "God Only Knows," it will. Fred/Treasure Isle Recorders, Inc./Music City, USA/Nashville, TN
Many comments are from such a long time ago. I wonder how those people are doing now. Or anything about the pandemic we are going through. Ita a calm song that I've discovered.
God Only Knows is my most favourite song of The Beach Boys ever. Thank you so much for uploading the video about the band singing the song and sharing it with us.
You're most welcome Ken. I'm so glad this vintage film clip was able to give you some solace at a time when it was most needed! You are so right. Only music has the ability to transcend the moment by transporting us back to happier times and achieving that therapeutic outcome. Thanks for taking the time to share your greatly valued thoughts.
Mike Adams you are so right about the therapeutic value of music, I'm 59 now and music has been my go to times of joy and sadness since I was old enough to put a 45 on the turntable.
FightClub MeetsHere All of Brian's and the BBs songs can move you to tears the melodies and harmonies are Heavenly and heartbreaking. Given 2016 has taken so so many musical icons of Our generation (today Greg Lake) . I do not want to see the day Brian Wilson leaves us because that one for me will be as hard as any. Like Dylan said Buckets of Tears.
Totally agree with every word you've written Brian. I nearly fell out of my chair upon having read of Greg Lake's passing barely more than 2 months ago. It was like a dagger had just been plunged directly thru my heart. The very same way I felt upon learning of Dennis and Carl Wilson's passing. I know Brian's not going to live forever but am forever thankful he's still with us. These guys are like my own family considering they've been a sacred part of my life since the age of 3 years old.
Brian Wilson, the genius, at the pinnacle of his song writing career. To say this is one of the best songs ever written is an understatement. It changed the game and pushed the Beatles to create Sgt. Pepper.
I love to see the Beach Boys playing live in the early years! But this is the first time I read your comments. THANK YOU for rescuing the film and the audio sync is amazing.
MattyFizzle04 Imagine if Brain Wilson had completed Smile where he was pushing the limits even further. McCartney said Pet Sounds inspired Pepper because the Beatles knew it was a great album and wanted to answer it. Brian Wilson has said that Pet Sounds was inspired by Rubber Soul which he said totally blew him away when it came out. Imagine if he had been able to finish Smile and get it out there. The Beatles may have then felt challenged to make another album on the level of Pepper. God Only Knows.
niteowl287 is it not true that most of smile was destroyed? I used to think BW was overrated, but smile made me look again. God only knows, not from smile, stands alone, like a statue. Just touched God w that song. But I can name many great " touched the Divine" songs. In your eyes by Peter Gabriel is one. Love reign ore me, karma police, here, there and everywhere etc.
Everyone who enjoys listening to good music should own a copy of Pet Sounds. I'm aware I'm dating myself here, but my first copy was an LP, which was complete with well loved scratches on the album. Not too sure, but I believe it was also available as an 8 Track, as well. During an interview, Brian was asked what was his favorite song he had written and his response was "God Only Knows". Brian Wilson was greatly influenced in Phil Spector's recording style called the Wall of Sound, and so Brian used this technique in the production and making of this great piece of musical history.
probably my favorite. these guys could harmonize..... I think this is just a great song and reminds me of the good old times growing up in the 60's when things we're simple. The families were larger, the homes were smaller. We all watched and can relate to the same TV shows from then Ask anybody in their late 50's or early 60's, Do you remember the show .......... What will our kids/grand-kids remember??? I am grateful I grew up then, I don't what would have become of me, growing up now?? Thank God for the golden oldies and the nostalgia that comes with them.... Great memories!
+kevin mccarty I couldn't possibly agree more with every word you wrote. Nice meeting you Kevin! Sure wish you were one of OUR state senators here in Pennsylvania. Keep up your outstanding efforts in California and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Beach Boys.
As a 62 year old television/radio/live sound & recording studio engineer/disc jockey, allow me to give you guys a huge and very heartfelt expression of appreciation for resurrecting, repairing and optimizing the audio and video for this clip. You did an outstanding job on it; very well done, very tasteful, both technically and artistically. I was a very passionate fan of The Beach Boys, and still listen to them as often as I can. I would love for someone to to make me general manager of an FM station, or even of an entire radio/satellite & internet network, and that they would give me 100% free reign to do whatever I want, with the stipulations that I make them major money, that I obey all laws and regulations, that I daily advance and promote the station and network in both financial value and name recognition, etc, etc...I know a LOT about music from the 50's to the present, and can frequently almost instantly identify a song and the artist or band playing it, tell you something interesting about the history of the song/songwriter/musicians, etc, and I would REALLY play a HUGE variety of music that would appeal to a majority of the people in our market, which would result in a LOT of money made for the station through selling on-air & internet advertising. I worked in radio for 14 years as announcer/disc jockey/copy writer/ producer/account executive and engineer, and LOVED it, was GOOD at it, and wish I'd never left it. I'd love to get back into it in a big way...I really think I could totally turn a ststin or network around and make someone a LOT of money if they would totally give me free reign and let me do what I love to do, which is to play GREAT music, make people HAPPY, attract a LOT of POSITIVE attention, have FUN, hire/direct & manage people, write copy, work on the air, repair & maintain electronics, sell, produce commercials and PSA's, create websites, do live remotes, promote musicians, cultivate the community and businesses I serve, read news/weather & PSA's, and make LOTS of money! I have a resume, a work history and technical/creative & managerial abilities that would look very attractive to a hiring manager or CEO. Anyone want to put an old dog back in the game and give me the chance to show you what I can do? texascommtech, aka Dean From Abilene...commtech AT nts-online DOT net
Thaks for this video. "Here, There, & Everywhere" has long been my favorite Beatles song. It was only years later that it dawned on me--it hit me like a ton of bricks--that the song is Paul McCartney's homage to the entire "Pet Sounds" album, especially to Brian's awesome talent for writing ballads. "God Only Knows" is one of two masterpieces on "Pet Sounds". (The other is "Caroline No".)
This is the box in which my whole youth is still captured. I open it and all is there again. Brian, you must have seen every sunbeam and every leaf on each tree I saw
Thanks for posting. Brian is such a genius. All of them had a collective magic. You can imitate it but you won't duplicate it. The lyrics and arrangement of music, so beautiful it makes my soul weep.
I may not always love you But long as there are stars above you You never need to doubt it I'll make you so sure about it God only knows what I'd be without you If you should ever leave me Though life would still go on believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me God only knows what I'd be without you God only knows what I'd be without you If you should ever leave me Well life would still go on believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me God only knows what I'd be without you God only knows what I'd be without you God only knows

Lady Gaga has a wild factor but with some uplifting songs like born this way.
Adel has a really strong beautiful voice that people with or without computers wish they had.
But Lady G nor Adel can compete with actual musicians. In no way I would consider these two "persons" quality musicians. No way in hell I would
God Only Knows is one of my favourite songs since its release. However, Lady Gaga has the gift to elevate it to a level previously unknown.

Thanks a lot for reading Mike!
***** You're welcome Jeff!
Brings me to tears 😭
Pet Sounds is arguably the most innovative, creative album ever produced. Brian Wilson was a genius.
@Walsh1502: I agree with all of that!
Walsh1502 “is “
When you have a Beatle (Paul McCartney) compliment your album you are doing something right
duh
I AGREE COMPLETELY!! Brian Wilson was a visionary!!!
The definition of a classic, an absolutely beautiful tune that will never get old or irrelevant, pure talent and passion
I dont care about whether it is not not lip synched, tis a brilliant song and a style of music the world needs more of..............thank you Brian
Exactly! So what if it is? Its not like some other group sung it on the record - its them singing it anyway.
It’s not that it’s lip-synced, it’s just this is/was made to be a promotional music video for this song. They weren’t in concert or anything.
I grew up listening to every single record my parents collected, leading to a life long obsession. The Beach Boys saved me in so many ways through my 45 years so far God only knows!! Thank you!
Thanks for putting this up, talk about timeless music and its ability to bring tears to the eyes.
+sparky prebs For sure Sparky and you're most welcome. So glad you enjoyed this spectacular vintage treasure from our past.
+Mike Adams I like the kind Mike likes!!!
This is THE song that Paul McCartney said is the BEST Beach Boys song that he ever heard in his life.....and he also had wished that it was him that wrote it! That says it all right there about his respect for Brian, The Beach Boys and 'Pet Sounds'.
Not exactly. He said it was his favorite Beach Boys song.
Edward Taylor Well, I guess that we have heard different things. Anyhow, one thing is for sure: HE LOVED THE SONG!!!
Edward Taylor Really? I'm pretty sure I read that he said it's his favourite song of all time
if i see the paul mccartney/god only knows reference one more time...
"Withouuuuuuuuuuuut.....youuuuuuuuuuuu" My favorite bit in Brian's falsetto near the end
Carl was singing.
@@richmccarty7369 Brian sang the falsetto part in the section at the end, though.
That was actually Bruce Johnston.
Thats Bruce.
Genius.
and the flute - sublime and evocotive
Listen to McCartney's "Ram" album, a lot of Beach Boy influence on there.
juantailor True enough. Even PM's "Ram" evokes 'pet sounds', no? :-)
There's a great version of Brian singing this on a solo album, also sweet.
Glad to see people tuning in - maybe for the first time.
and Brian said that after hearing sgt Peppers he was ready to quit!! Great song
25 years gone Carl Wilson and so missed. What a singer you were. You and Dennis have never been forgotten and never will be.
One of the best songs ever written, thanks to the God-like genius of Brian Wilson.
Except Brian is strangely absent from this video.
Classic Junk That's gotta be so terrible. You know he's deaf in one ear? It's his stupid dad's fault. I imagine that's why Brian always talks out of one side of his mouth if you watch him closely in interviews.
jrjubach No. Brian had a stroke and is still showing those effects.
Harrold Allen The stroke was a rumor. Brian developed dyskinesia by 1983 as a result of drug prescriptions. Regardless, he was talking out of the corner of his mouth before those days anyway. I like your channel, Harold.
Classic Junk Yeah that's crazy. Poor guy has been through a lot.
can't beat their vocal harmonies.and the songs. unparalleled. I LOVE THE BEACH BOYS
Mike Adams, a great dedication to all three Wilson Brothers including Brian. The song wouldn't have existed without his musical and lyrical genius as you well stated. WTG Brian and the boys! Rest in Peace Dennis and Carl!
Oy Vey Thanks for your generous words of appreciation and taking the time to convey them so personally.
The harmonies.... spectacular!
Hello 👋
One of the most beautiful songs ever and my fave Beach Boy song...always get chills when I hear it.
My all time favorite Beach Boys song.
One of the remarkable songs of my 64 years...........was 15 when it came out. It's a signature song of my teens during a turbulent history in time (the 60s).....It continues to lift me up when I hear it..............Carl Wilson RIP
Some of the most Heavenly Harmonies I have heard in my lifetime, Big Love 4 this song!!
Love that you found this and shared it with us. 1966 was the last year I lived in CA and I missed it everyday I heard this song. Thank you!
I LOVE IT!
Brian Douglas Wison, The mind behind it all..
Thank you Brian, for all the wonderful music you shared and gave to the world.
Bless you and your band.
Well, Brian wrote this, for Carl Dean
Wilson's voice. Brian is still a genius,
and Carl's still KILLED this! The world
lost a great voice.
Same!
Thanks for doing this!! Loved The Beach Boys when I was a surfing teenager in Va Beach during the 60s. Fun, fun, fun.....
My favorite song from the great Beach Boys!
I too love the old songs by The Beach Boys.
Thank you Mike for posting the greatest song to y ears... Carl and Dennis live on through post such as yours.
Hi friend, how are you doing today
I remember summer holidays in north wales, lying in the caravan bed and listening to dads transistor radio tuned to radio caroline out at sea.The fading in and out of the signal seemed to give this song a magical dreamlike sound that has stayed with me to this day,the sun the sea the sound the feeling..pure magic.
What a beautiful picture you painted with your words!
The beech boys brilliant love em
One of, if not the Beach Boys greatest!!!!!
My teacher told us today that this is considered by music lovers the best song ever made!
Mike Adams My man! Music in and of itself is time travel...a slice of time itself...
Your Music teacher is correct. Paul McCarthney has always claimed it is the best pop song ever......now thats an accolade for you.....
Your teacher is on crack.
This was one of the songs played at my sister Tara's funeral. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. But ultimately, happy x
Thank you for sharing and also the lovely words you wrote
THE most beautiful and soulful songs ever written !
RIP Melinda Wilson. Brian's love song to her says it all.
Not to be mean but this song predates Melinda meeting Brian by decades.
Wow, that's amazing!!!
Many comments are from such a long time ago. I wonder how those people are doing now. Or anything about the pandemic we are going through.
Ita a calm song that I've discovered.
So talented so wonderful. Thank you BB..
Carl and Dennis Wilson are very under appreciated and under rated!!!! RIP Dennis and Carl!
God Only Knows is my most favourite song of The Beach Boys ever. Thank you so much for uploading the video about the band singing the song and sharing it with us.
This is a absolutley Beautiful song , R.I.P momma . '' God only knows what Id be without you "
+83JustinCredible Sorry for your loss brother, BB, are there for you. Hope the music helps!!
this song reminds me of my mother too... and my pops, who took me to see the beach boys when I was 8 in 1989
Во всех отношениях чудесная песня! И мелодия, и оранжировка и исполнение! Вокал выше всяческих похвал!!!
Аминь!
Thanks for this pal.
It's been a bad night. And sometimes, music is the only that helps.
Mike Adams you are so right about the therapeutic value of music, I'm 59 now and music has been my go to times of joy and sadness since I was old enough to put a 45 on the turntable.
prettypeggy98 b
I couldn’t agree more Kenneth. When God wants to get through to me , he uses music. It’s the only thing that penatrates my stubborn soul!
Man, that’s so beautiful 🥹
One of the best songs in the history of rock and popular music, and without a doubt the 60s was the best decade
Song makes me cry. In a good way.
Something is keeping Brian going.
You should check out their acapella version. The harmony portion at the end without the music behind it is so clean, it's heartwrenching.
Best song ever written!
(Rest In Peace Dennis)
@@rjc3208 Brian wrote it, Carl sang lead.
Brian Wilson, the genius, at the pinnacle of his song writing career. To say this is one of the best songs ever written is an understatement. It changed the game and pushed the Beatles to create Sgt. Pepper.
Lyrics, production and vocals all come together on this masterpiece.
I love to see the Beach Boys playing live in the early years! But this is the first time I read your comments. THANK YOU for rescuing the film and the audio sync is amazing.
Hi Marian, how are you doing today
Great song.
One of the best songs recorded to date! ❤
Such a beautiful song. Great video.

One of my favorite songs ❤
The greatest band in American history.
No other is even close.
Beach Boys forever!
MattyFizzle04 - *in American history*
George Vreeland Hill what about The Four Seasons???
Pfft LOL... I like the Four Seasons but they don't come close to this conversation
Hi Mary, how are you doing today
The best group EVER!!!!!
Hi friend, how are you doing today
probably my favorite. these guys could harmonize.....
I think this is just a great song and reminds me of the good old times growing up in the 60's when things we're simple.
The families were larger, the homes were smaller.
We all watched and can relate to the same TV shows from then
Ask anybody in their late 50's or early 60's,
Do you remember the show ..........
Thanks for your kind and generous sentiments which are deeply appreciated.
greatest piece of music ever created.
Amen! Love the Wilson brothers.
Hi Judy, how are you doing today
This song has gotten me through things from 1991 until now💕 one of the best songs ever ❤️
My all time favorite song. Brian Wilson is the best of the best.
Hi Lisa, how are you doing today
The genius of Brian Wilson x
And, the voice of Brian's baby brother.
2 Wilson boys made an AMAZING song.
steve
How Brian talked the band into "God Only Knows" is a fortunate mystery. A gem.
The singing at the end by Carl, Bruce, and Brian is outstanding.
Great and beautiful song and I have this album. Definitely genius that Brian wrote. Thanks for the post here.
You're most welcome Pam. Thanks you for taking the time to enjoy this epic song and reply.
Thanks for posting. Brian is such a genius. All of them had a collective magic. You can imitate it but you won't duplicate it. The lyrics and arrangement of music, so beautiful it makes my soul weep.
There just isn't a note out of place here. Everything perfect. Production, tune, lyrics. One of the most perfect pop songs ever.
Hello Monica, how are you doing today
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Well life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows
Quite possibly the greatest ever pop song.
I was about to say the same thing.
Its possible. So good
I saw them live last year and they played this. I'm not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye. When you have loved and lost, you will truly understand this song.
Brian Wilson's use of harmonies as another instrument is beyond compare. Truly genius.
Such a beautiful song.
50 yr old music! Can't top it today
Well said, Richard!
I love this . Its perfect.
This still sends chills up my spine
Thank you for posting this. My husband just passed from cancer and this was out doing
Hi Janet, how are you doing today
the best they ever made ! I remember it being played on every radio station all the time in 1966.....love it then and now
