I’ve found lining the inside of fire bowl with aluminum foil from bottom to top edge works great. Place the charcoal grill grate over the molded in aluminum foil. Great on clean up. Love my original Sportsman’s!
Thanks great. I love mine too. Being at least 0.24" thick, heat will be retained better then cooking in a 55 gal drum-like barrel grill which heat is lost very quick. #HappyGrilling Thanks for sharing your comments.
Nice one Lupe - I have just asked my wife for one of these for my 50th birthday (December). I am glad you answered a previous question regarding using wood, as that is what I am also hoping to do with it. These are fairly strong money in the UK, but I reckon it will be worth it :)
Great video! I’ve seen a lot of people complain that it is not balanced when you pick it up. I found if you put the firebox door and the draft door on the charcoal grate, it takes care of that problem. I hope you enjoy your grill as much as I have mine. 👍✌️

Hi Lupe, thanks for taking the time to do this demo. You mentioned that the grill feels unbalanced when you lift it with the bail (handle). Is there any chance that if you inserted the bail hooks going the other direction, you might get it more balanced? Just asking, I really have no idea. I am planning to get this grill, so I'm also thinking about how to keep that access door closed -- something rigged with a couple of good magnets maybe?
Yes I've tried it both ways. I believe, for safety reasons, this wasn't made to be lugged around from place to place with fire in the system. Its really not off balance too bad with empty ( no fire) inside. But, if you feel that you have to keep that lid from coming off, you can insert a small Piece of metal where the plate is inserted to keep it from opening. I just my grill almost every weekend and I truly love it. I highly recommend it. Thanks for your input and comments. You can try the magnets. Let me know how you like it if you get it.
Thanks for the comment. I will have to do a follow up video for this same question. Yes, one piece of paper got the fire started with the help of natural tinder in the mix. The brand of the chimney starter is Mr. Food.
