Damn, you just see it pitch up like mad just before it hits the clouds. In a time were we have so much information and know so much about the effects of icing, and still this kind of bad decisionmaking. Let's hope this one will prevent others from doing the same.
I thought that that t-tail would be hard to get that ice off of. They should have used warm de-icer until ALL ice is off ALL flight surfaces. You NEVER count on any snow or ice to ever come off on it's own.
His level of attack was at 14-15 percent and should have been 7-9. The stall warning / stick shaker would have stopped if he didn't keep pulling up after the rotate. He should have never been flying in those conditions, and with that many souls on board, I can't imagine why he did. Hind-site doesn't bring them back. RIP.
God does NOT say he answers ALL prayers.. God says pray for his own will to be done.. then you pray for yourself and others, but first and foremost we pray for God and his will to be done.. and Gods plan must have been for this plane to go down.. because we can not pray and change a Gods mind.. Gods plan was made even before creation.. so when we pray.. we suppose to prat with faith that Gods will is to do such n such.. praying that God's will was to keep the plane in air.. we can only pray with full faith..
got to say thats pretty fricking dumb. why would god need you to pray that his will be done? besides thats not what the bible says. does the bible lie? Aircraft cannot fly with ice on the leading edge of the wing structure...PERIOD! It disrupts induced lift. Every student pilot know that. I feel so sorry for passengers that simply don't know the dynamics of flight ( not that they're supposed to ) and put their trust in a pilot that is supposed to know better! God rest their souls man! Real sad.
Judging by what I saw in this video, it appears that they may have been able to make it okay if the pilot had not tried to climb so steeply. He came off the ground and appeared to be in a somewhat normal climb until disappearing from view. So the airplane WAS flying for a time. If the pilot had lowered the nose slightly and allowed the airspeed to build to a much higher speed (assuming a diverse departure area...), they very well may have been able to stay in the air. But with that much deformity of the airflow around the wings and tail caused by the ice, the slow speed was insufficient to maintain lift and control. In a situation like this one, you cannot mindlessly rotate at the normal takeoff speed and expect normal performance. You must gain excess speed then raise the nose slightly and let the airplane fly itself off the ground when it is ready to fly - if it will ever BE ready to fly... With ice and snow on the airplane it may never be ready to fly.
There was likely hilly terrain in the area and with virtually no visibility, a steep climb was likely not optional. Stalling due to icing was not optional either. What was optional was not flying at all.
Flying home from a hunting trip in a PC-12. Happened in NC, too. Not the PC-12's fault...but...dont accept rides from pilots of PC12s after hunting trips.
Honestly the passengers were heard praying. It's extremely common for the religious to replace logic, reason, and reality, with prayer and presumption they call faith. If your religion requires or inspires you to be or to play stupid then you don't have faith. You are deluded. May I introduce you to organized Christianity throughout America.
I've got 6400 hours on type and that decision to take off was a very bad idea....
Praying does not save you. Common sense does.
If I saw those conditions as a passenger I would have refused and would have stayed till the weather was better.

That plane was your flight home. If you stay you dont have a ride home.
@TRIPLEWHOPPER……Then, you go home the next day. I would sleep there at the terminal if I had to. That looks terrifying. I’m uneasy even driving my car in the snow.
You go with what feels right for you at the time and not what the pilot thinks is right.

God helps those who help themselves. They had no business putting a child on that plane in those weather conditions. Unforgivable.

I bet the rest of the ice came off when it hit the ground at 300 mph...

Clouds? Uhhh..no.
Why didn’t they de ice before takeoff? Wouldn’t have de icing been necessary and helped avoid the crash?
They spent 3 hours trying to de ice before giving up.
If the de iceing system failed then the aircraft was not flight worthy and should never have been certified as such.
The pilot was 100% at fault.

Is it normal for a plane to turn left like that as soon as it leaves the ground?
His horizontal stab had over 2 inches of Ice built up on it. That alone would really mess things up.
There was likely hilly terrain in the area and with virtually no visibility, a steep climb was likely not optional. Stalling due to icing was not optional either. What was optional was not flying at all.
They would have made IT, with a decision to go back to the hotel and try the next day with proper de-ice.
I think of Air Florida 90 when I see this.
yep.
Worst cast of “get-home-itis” I’ve ever seen. Sad.
The pilot should have never been allowed a license. Horrible horrible choices made.
I just don't understand why ANYONE would take off in weather like this when you have your whole family with you and can easily stay another night...
Why the he'll would you even try to fly into a snowstorm like that
because the pilot said he had to get home...
Will he now dead
You can't even see anything must have been desperate to get home

How'd those prayers work out? What a buffoon to take off in that weather.
Thoughtless prayers fail again
