I thought it would be a good idea to replace the guitar solos with Cliff's bass solo tone for this cover. I'm really not an expert when it comes to making these types of covers with nothing but bass, but I think this sounds at least acceptable... Should get better at these the more that I make.
The video which this idea was based off of (link below), uploaded in early 2013 created some mystery over Burton’s contribution to "To Live Is To Die", with many believing that the track was actually recorded and created by Cliff (this is not the case).
He almost certainly did not compose any riffs in To Live Is To Die, however the slight chance that the band reconstructed memorable riffs that Cliff jammed to compose the final song is not impossible. It's a known fact that he wrote the spoken lyrics near the end of the original song.
The original RUclips video "Cliff Burton's Last Song" is more in the style of Jason Newsted's live performances of the interlude which is what I think inspired that video.
Both tracks are a great homage to Cliff Burton and I only hope this video might contribute that in some way...

It's like Jason and cliff playing together
Honestly, this wouldve been mind blowing
Cliff was a great bass player taken too soon.
He left great music behind though.
I'll soon be 23, the same age as him when he died...
@@DirtyGlove He died aged 24
Everyone needs to know that this is not his last song. It is the last song he composed or played but he really made revolution of metal music and it still feels in metallica music and today
Everyone needs to know this is not his song. It's a tribute to cliff, and it's played and composed by Jason.
I wonder where the misconception came from considering James has pretty much confirmed he only contributed the spoken poem in the song
Reading this comment, I’ve found out where the misconception came from. Lars mentioned in a newspaper interview that this song was made up from a couple riffs cliff was messing around on.
James on the other hand has mentioned in interviews before that James wrote the riffs and cliff wrote the poem. So two very contradicting statements from those two.
I’m more inclined to believe James and Lars has got things about metallicas past wrong before also since there is riff tapes with riffs from to live is to die from before cliff even joined the band, also how jamesey the riffs sound
i wish the world never lost someone as cool as Cliff
i wish he was still here
So true but at the very least he did leave us some nutty riffs
I want to learn this too. Any tabs you can point me to?
Today is the 60 birthday of cliff :(
After this, i made a small and improved tribute to this masterpice, like a gift to this man, who is now in the other side...

true
Fantastic job man, song makes me think of my dad.
Thank you, hope I did it justice for him
I've waited for this imo this is the best bass line that not many know about and you can play it on a normal electric guitar
I love how the guitar solos were done for this and I think they sound better than it does on bass!
I just thought doing them on bass would be a fitting tribute for Cliff and all his work.
@@DirtyGlove cliff really had a great mind
Right on man 🤘
This was sick dude!!!
Thank you big man
Awesome!
Sick dude
;)
Such an amazing cover you nailed it man!! I have one question is the glove to prevent squeaking because I strings always squeak.
Thanks man, and to be honest the glove makes them squeak a bit more than without (if you mean moving up and down the strings) :)
Love this
love the gloves lol
THANK YOU
nice misfits profile pic
Do you use fairly new bass strings when playing?
I changed my strings maybe 1-2 months ago and usually change them every 5-9 months
