    I love listening to my Wilson speakers. I can only imagine the experience of listening to these XVX speakers. The sound of Wilson speakers is something special. I’m not surprised you keep coming back to them. To some a speaker is just a magnet and a coil attached to a cone in a box or a diaphragm stretched over a board combined with a box of capacitors stuffed inside. The design variations are infinite but the best solutions and craftsmanship can produce an amazing musical experience. These Wilsons are the pinnacle of design and craftsmanship. Very few appreciate these types of achievements. Like climbing Mt. Everest, most people consider it an insane risk and waste of time and effort but those few who know and appreciate the experience would not trade it for anything.

    Folks! I got a personal invite to Jay's Audio Lab the day he & Carlos set up these magnificent loudspeakers and I can attest to their sonic prowess!
    I will keep it short & sweet and state what I told Jay that day - specially after switching to *ALL MIGHTY ANALOG* while having all of Side 1 of "The Famous Sound of Three Blind Mice, Vol 1" double LP"
    I told him "Jay, I felt like I was in a trance"
    He agreed. 'Nuff said.

    Wasn't a fan of Wilson's. Till now. Darryl has done a fantastic job. He has transformed Wilson to a MUCH more sophisticated, refined sound, which it needed imo. I'm a stat/planar guy, these new Wilson's share many characteristics of that genre, especially the ease, relaxed, natural presentation of details. Organic as you pointed out. These new Wilson's also sound less "noisy " as well, like a stat.
    Big step forward for dynamic loudspeakers imo. We'll done Wilson, in my book, you've arrived. Congratulations Jay, you earned these, enjoy them!

    After saying how he was done with Wilson and Magico, goes right back to the well. Honesty there is a lot of pushback on this speaker even from magazines due to price. I’ve heard it - sounds like a richer Wilson but the soundstage is unnaturally tall. have a feeling it’s too big for Jays room too.

      @JamesWilliams-gf8gm Год назад +1

      Yeah I often wonder if off loading to subs with a high pass and room correction from 80-60hz down is not the better way to go. Keeps the processing out of the mids and only on the subs where it is far less noticeable.
      Wilson’s own sub controller is probably pretty good. Regardless of how good these are in the bass a pair comparable subs (gothems for example) tuned and corrected has to be better but I am just guessing. Not everyone likes the sound of powered subs but I do.
      I would measure your room and see what you get. Often the best place for smooth bass is no where near the best place for soundstage.

    Congratulations on your purchase, clearly a lifetime achievement and testament to hard work. Unfortunately it makes me sad for the state of the high end industry. I was involved in high end audio for nearly 30 years. Back in the 80s, 90’s and 00’s. Back then, true state of the art loudspeakers like the Infinity IRS-Vs were a shocking amount of money at $50,000 a pair. That was an insane amount of money to spend…and it should be noted that they’ve APPRECIATED in years since. Being out of it for well north of a decade, I return in my late 50s to start my research, to look for the one last system to purchase…only to find that the state of the art now costs $350,000…just for the speakers. That’s not inflation, that’s insanity. I have absolutely zero doubt they are incredible loudspeakers, certainly amongst the top ever produced…they’d better be. I’m sure many will flame me for not being able to afford it (wrong, I could write the check), but as a hobby, this level of investment required simply isn’t justifiable. To need to spend north of half a million dollars to achieve the state of the art means that high end audio is pricing itself out of existence. Don’t get me wrong, I was neck deep in the industry for decades, and I understand It was *always* a luxury pursuit for the wealthy…but it was one the average executive, professional or doctor could pursue. Now, you need to be a multi millionaire to be able to afford it. It means the industry I loved for decades is now accessible to a vanishingly small number of people. That’s sad.

      Look up the Magico m9 (I think they are 8 or 9 hundred thousand per pair) and the Goldmund telos 8800 monoblock at $366,000 per channel. And now you can spend probably over $100,000 just on cables. So, yeah, there are just people that have that much money. Oh, the Pivetta Opera only amp is $2.2 million. And the Hart Audio D&W Aural Pleasure is $5m and looks like a golden turd incapable of full range audio.
