B12 Absorption - Best Forms Of Vitamin B12 For Maximum Absorption

  • Dr. Klaper shares with us the importance of vitamin B12 and how to avoid B12 deficiency in the plant based diet. Since vegan diets are low in vitamin B12 foods, he recommends supplementing with this very important vitamin. Not all supplements are equal and he recommends taking one that comes in direct contact with the mouth and saliva for maximum vitamin B12 benefits.
    Question: Do you think that taking a vitamin B12 supplement is enough? Should we be doing anything else to make sure our body is adequately absorbing the B12?

    Took all the b12 tablets as prescribed - and my levels kept falling for 3 years. Changed to a b12 toothpaste (live in europe) and levels shot up. Made a big difference for me. So make sure you “absorb what you eat” 🤪👍🏼

    You shouldn’t take a multivitamin because sometimes they include synthetic vitamins in the mix. Also vitamin C, copper and Thiamine Block the absorption of B12 when taken together.

    When a B12 level is normal or low normal but a deficiency is still suspected, a healthcare practitioner may order a methylmalonic acid (MMA) test as an early indicator of B12 deficiency.

    This was so helpful, thanks! I don't do instagram but would really like to know whether timing of sublingual B12 is less important, since absorption is somewhat different than going exclusively through the GI tract. I'm at that stage where taking what I need at the right time or spaced out is challenging! Thanks!

    This was a waste of time. What type of B12 is recommended?

  • @jmseipp
    @jmseipp 3 месяца назад

    If you have low stomach acid, insufficient pancreatic enzymes, lack Intrinsic Factor or don’t have the proper gut bacteria you may well have difficulty absorbing Vitamin B12. (Most Americans have had dozens of courses of antibiotics and therefore a destroyed gut microbiome) And simply swallowing a pill or capsule won’t help. Nor will eating ‘fortified foods’ be of much or any help. Therefore a sublingual (under the tongue) form of B12 is best, preferably Methycobalamin as opposed to the synthetic Cyanocobalamin form which is the form most commonly found. Problem is thought that Cyanocobalamin isn’t found anywhere in Nature and your body must still convert it to the bioavailable Methylcobalamin form. Good luck with that. Read the label!
