  • I recently bought a new LS2 Storm in the Faster colour scheme, after using it quite a bit in a lot of mixed weather - and lots of questions on the helmet, I've put together this review. The only thing I would say this review is missing is long term durability over many miles and years, as I haven't done that yet, but I'll keep everyone up to date on Instagram and such :)

    Wind noise at 100+kph is the largest deciding factor for me. Unfortunately it's hard to tell unless you try each one at those speeds and helmet retailers won't allow that!

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +1

      Honestly I think all helmets are too loud above 100 for extended periods, it's why the noise of a helmet pretty much doesn't bother me as I wear ear plugs. After that it's more what I was getting at around the turbulence, nice smooth noise is fine, blustery horribleness is rotten.
      Yeah it's a pity there's no way to test it really.

    That’s the helmet I’m using about 18 months and it’s a great helmet. Bit awkward for GoPro adapting but it’s done me a great bit of business for €135 with pinlock, for the Matte Black. The tab for the visor still works perfectly, The strap release red tab gets frayed but still works the same. Highly recommended.

    Great review, so many outlets (resellers or paid promoters) simply aren’t talking about ECE 22.06, rather they just seem intent on flogging off their current stock with ECE 22.05 certification. If you’re not familiar with the difference between 05 and 06, it’s worth having a read of the testing scenarios.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад

      Thanks, Yeah I think it might be that tbh, and a lot just don't seem to be certified to it, I've read it and it's actually an impressive update from a safety perspective really. I hope it does and intended and even cheaper helmets are just safe, I'd like there to be a point where everything was equally as safe but you paid more for comfort and looks etc etc.

    • @thetwowheeledintrovert3367
      @thetwowheeledintrovert3367 2 года назад +1

      @@TheGorillaBiker I tend to agree regarding certified helmets being of the same standard regardless of cost should offer the same minimum level of protect in an accident. I wear a Shoei NXR 2, and I really noticed with your review some of the quality of life differences between the NXR 2 and the LS2 you reviewed. Little things, but they probably add up. For example the visor locking mechanism on the sides to hold the visor, on the LS2 its obversely works, but the one on the Shoei is just nicer and better engineered, and some other bits and pieces. To be fair some of the cost difference between helmets is justified, some of it is the higher cost of marketing - how much does it cost to get a GP star to wear your helmet etc.

    I use this helmet in the color scheme racer matt blue for about one year and like it a lot.
    The only thing I don´t like very much is in the winter always enter lot of cold air from the front vent even when it is closed.
    I do motovlogging and with the action cam on the chin is not easy open the visor, the solution I gonna try is to move the cam a little bit down.
    Great review I agree you in everything

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +1

      Ah very nice! That's true it can be a breezy helmet, I wear a warm hood thing under the helmet in winter anyway so it's not too bad.
      Mine is also on the chin, a clamped on Dango designs one, that works well and I can still open the visor :) You could try that style either :)

    I tried LS2 helmets back when I was just starting to figure out motorcycle gear. The ones I got either gave me bad headaches after a bit, or fell apart. Finally settled on a Scorpion R420. Then got a Scorpion ST1400 Carbon Fiber, and I upgraded to an Scorpion EXO R1. I am absolutely in LOVE with this helmet. Even with the gopro mount on the front, it doesn't get drag from higher winds. It is, hands down, my favorite helmet and I plan to stick with this design for a long time to come. Yeah its at a higher price point, but I'd say as someone who rides year around, this is the best helmet I have ever owned. It comes with a clear visor, and shaded, and both are pinlock ready. AND it comes with a pinlock. Its well worth the price. If you've not checked this helmet out, I highly recommend it. It's also very light even though its not carbon fiber. I am so impressed by the quality and design.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад +2

      Interesting! I know with the headaches it's likely your head shape, I know loads of people who had similar issues with Arai, disappointing to hear it fell apart tho, and it'll be interesting to see how this one lasts!
      Scorpion is a brand I've never tried but am definitely interested in trying at some point, I really want to try the R1 myself, is that the one with the inflatable cheekpads? Quarteraro style. That's a pretty huge recommendation I'll definitely have to give one a go :D
      Price wouldn't bother me to invest in, but I wont buy a helmet without trying it on and that's where my issues start, it's rare here to find the helmet I want in my size to try on, and shops wont order them for you unless you buy them. :( Plus I don't have much money on hand ever but that's a different story :D

    • @lunar-firefly
      @lunar-firefly 2 года назад

      @@TheGorillaBiker I've heard people say Scorpions run small. Honestly I wear an XS and it fits me perfectly. Most helmets in that size suit me even with my chipmunk cheeks. You may be able to see if they'd be willing to return it if it won't fit. If not, then definitely go somewhere else. Or try on different Scorpion helmets in XL. They all fit about the same. Then at least you know what size to order if you decide to give it a nice test run. This one is intermediate oval so it should fit fine since that's what your LS2 is.
      Yes it has the inflatable cheeks. As the padding wears down from use, the air pouches help take up the space so it fits snug and does its job. My ST1400 also had it. It works great! And is very comfortable. The lining feels quality, and is very comfortable too.
      There's another youtuber who did a review on it. MotoTigress is her name. Video name is: Motorcycle Helmet Review: Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Carbon-- Pleasant Surprise! if you wanna check that out :3 She goes over all the features of the R1 and her personal pros and cons of it. Would love to see you do a review as well. Be very interested in your thoughts.

    I don't get much accomplished with gloves and double d rings on my helmet either. I totally agree with the visor tab being located on the side versus center. My current Sedici is the first helmet with a center tab on the visor and I don't like it either, side tabs is the way to go! I refuse to live without the speaker cut outs now that I have a helmet with them. Good review seems like a great product I would consider one.

I now have an Airoh Executive modular helmet with the chin bar removed. The air flow is great and even in winter doesn't feel that cold with my beard😁The additional view to either side is so much better than a full face and using a full face recently it felt quite claustrophobic and limited vision. Now I don't know how a poly carb helmet would have faired but I have never had one since that episode . But hey each to his own I do currently have an Arai in matt ( just ta throw that in there ) but I do find that side vision is not great that would be my only criticism and it has now sun visor. Interesting topic there GB cheers : )

      Ah fair, I've seen actual mechanical test results off them and tbh if a micrometric was to give way you have a whole lot of other issues 😬
      On the helmet material yes I do prefer a composite helmet as they definitely spread out any impact or damage a hell of a lot better than the larger crack thermoplastic usually do, that said modern helmets are all way way better safety wise so it generally doesn't concern me if its a brand with a good rep.
      Arai are way out of my price range sadly for a daily winter helmet they get destroyed 😭
      You can get those external sun visors for arai, I do think that's a far better tech than the internal ones.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  11 месяцев назад

      I did try the large, I found the large was too tight on my forehead, ideally I think the XL skull section of the pads with the large size cheek pads would have been ideal. I think if you're 1cm smaller a large would be grand.

    Yes paint it! The CBF is not doing itself any favours in basic black. Helmets are all about fit. I really struggle to get small sizes here. You would think in a country of midgets small size helmets would be the norm, but no. Everyone wears a hat, cap, jilbab under their helmet, or wants their mobile phone stuck up inside so they can use it while riding. . . . Health & Safety 😉

    My dream is a helmet as simple as possible for the shape and with as little gadget as possible: no pin lock, no sun visor, no fancy micrometric lock...and no paint, just a good primer, ready to paint...so I can have it matching my bikes with any fancy graphics I can find...

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  2 года назад

      But that pretty much exists apart from the primer thing :) You can get loads of normal shaped helmets with d ring straps and no pinlock etc. There is an absolute load of the available. Micrometric straps aren't fancy tho, they're pretty much the cheapest most common strap you can get really. The Double D is stronger and in my opinion better, but micrometric is usually cheaper. So definitely not fancy at all :)
