Rob Roy ending - it's also set up earlier in the story as being completely in his character to do this. ("First cut?" *cuts himself on challengers blade* "Well done.")
Also, I laughed out loud when you were talking about the "last two terms" they used in the scene in "I Love You, Man," because just for a moment, I genuinely thought one of the two terms you were referring to was "D*ckl!cker!"
Would love to see her critique the fight between Oliver Queen and Ra's Al Ghul in the show Arrow when the fight on the mountain top. Always felt that scene was pretty interesting but was always curious about how realistic it was.
In the Star Wars clip, they cut a lot out, but in a 2 v 1 situation, the 2 want to attack in a line with one in front and one in back, while the 1 wants to keep the 2 in front in a triangle, and in the choreography of the entire fight, we see them do just that with the Jedi constantly maneuvering to put one of them behind Darth Maul, and Darth Maul countering by maneuvering so that he puts them both back in front of him. That choreography was absolutely brilliant. probably one of the best choreographed fight scenes in all of Star Wars.
One mistake she made. During the "Die Another Day" analysis, she mentioned they were using foils with protective gear when actually they are using epees. It is also epee they are fencing because they are not using electric lames to indicate target area. They're wearing all white meaning the whole body is the target which would be epee fencing.
Just the Myth between Hector and Achilles is just legendary. Both are incredible warriors. Achilles is basically a Demi-god because of the whole dip in pond segment of his life. Hector is just human. So to see Hector go head to head with Achilles and forcing the Myrmidon to basically wear down the Trojan is nothing short of glorious. Those two are just on another level.
About the three way fight with Maul: When Obi Wan got behind him, he could have ended that fight real quick, by aiming his saber at any of the places Maul had left vulnerable. Namely his head, or his entire torso( in the back.) Maul was distracted by Qui Gon, so Obi Wan should have taken that chance.
23:45 those are epees and not foils. The gloves also have a hole that a wire passes through to connect to the weapon to register the hits and the "sleeve" is separated and closed with velcro (to make easier to put on, take off). Blade tips can go through this.
Actually, Grabbing the sword is viable, It's more ideal if you have a glove, but even with bare hand, pulling back the blade wont just cut its way out of the hand, if the grip is strong enough, it can be pretty hard to just pull the blade away.
Her job title sounds cool till you realise that she's not an expert at real fighting, she's an expert at onscreen/stage fighting. She basically teaches choreography. Definitely a valid skill, but more of a performance art than a martial art
I wonder if that isn't at least equally impressive. Learn all about how to fight--now dial it back and learn how do it all in a way that looks cool but won't get anyone hurt. Make it look like you're going full throttle, but in a way that's safe for people with no prior background and only a few months (if you're lucky) to train. Talk about walking a razor's edge. You might lose a little something in that the stakes are lowered, but I don't envy them their task list at all.
If I remember right, Michelle Yeoh actually hurt herself (pulling a muscle really bad or something like that) shooting the scene that was shown in this, and I think it was early in production as well, which is why this is the best fight scene she has in the movie, because her fights had to be toned down so that she could still do them with an injury for the rest of the film. It's a shame because she is really good.
Most of it is good and all but the Maul part.... "Maul is trying to divide and conquer" also criticizes Obi-wan for slowing down when hes master gets knocked away and needs a little time to get back, instead of rushing after Maul >_>
She does well at breaking down scenes and definitely knows a lot, but I'd have liked to see more critiques on the unrealistic techniques throughout all the videos. A few HEMA youtubers who do practice sword fighting have reviewed some of the clips in this video and had some different opinions about the bad choices that the fighters make. These clips are rife with hollywood shenanigans that would put you at a disadvantage in a real life scenario,. things like spinning around, making cuts without a hope of connecting, deflecting blows over and over and never following up with counter cuts. Choosing non-lethal attacks when a potential fatal blow is starring at them in the face. (like james bond one where he hits james in the back with the sabers guard instead of stabbing his back?)
Didn't click on this just was playing in the background. But once realised what it was, 100% enjoyable and informative. Only complaint the Monty python fight was real....the black night was so brave 🥰

So she talked about how the fighting styles that Westle and Inigo talk about are real (she left out Tybalt, pronounced "Tee-BOH," but what have you,) but she didn't mention that they're not *actually* fighting in anything even close to those styles. The scene wouldn't have looked nearly as good if they did, really - in particular Capa Ferro looks *weird.* Great scene regardless, but it's worth mentioning. :)
I do wish, in the Troy scene she would have talked about how unrealistic it would be to jab the point of your sword straight into the opponents shield like they do. That is a good way to break the point, or at the very least dull and or bend it. They are using Bronze swords so the tip would definitely get bent at the very least hitting into the shield like that. Also, they spend so much of the fight with their shields either at their side or behind them where it will do no good as it can block nothing when it is not between you and your opponents weapon. I find it very irksome when they bother to give the actors shields and then they spend the entire fight with the shield off to the side or holding it behind them.
13:59 yes but also no. Blade's sword is made of titanium. Men at Arms made a Blade replica out of titanium and when they took it to the sanding belt the sparks on that thing were insanely bright. he had to use welder googles and a breathing mask because of the fumes. so i imagine depending on the force sparks would have been easier with a titanium blade.
Finally an expert explaining why being a bigger opponent doesn't automatically makes you win an actual fight rather than a sport fight in a ring! I've been saying this for years.
Makes it easier, though. That's why there are weight classes. It's clear that her focus is more on the narrative side than the historical/pragmatic, so take it with a grain of salt if you want to extrapolate to reality.
She called Oberyn's weapon "almost a spear, a long quarter staff with a spear point on the end." Yeah that makes it a spear also its redundant to say spear point at the end. I have no idea why all these comments are praising her like she knows her stuff when she clearly does not.

@@bruceweiner5306 another fecking eejit. Her CV is easily available online. Move on. She is both. And no one ever claimed she is a martial artist? She is a master weapons fighter.
We need more episodes with this fight master, please.
Have her back on soon Wired. She’s delightful. She’s also a Fight Master and as others have pointed out, there isn’t a cooler title.
She is clueless.
As a Thibault student I find referring to him as "that one Dutch guy" and "no-one of consequence" hilarious.
Would love to see her critique the fight between Oliver Queen and Ra's Al Ghul in the show Arrow when the fight on the mountain top. Always felt that scene was pretty interesting but was always curious about how realistic it was.
I would love for her to break down any and everything in arrow 💞
Interesting! I did NOT know Hattori Hanzo was a real swordfighter that actually lived. Thought he was just a movie creation, that's very interesting!
He is a very interesting person who played a small but important role during the warring states period of Japan
He wasn't just a swordsman; he was a ninja in every sense of the word.
@@Zeroground300 he wasn't a Ninja, that's a misconception, he was a samurai who only had command over an Iga Ninja unit
He wasn't a samurai, and it's like that it was an agglomeration of various figures.
It'd be really cool to have her again and watch her breakdown some movies with realistic sword fights such as The Deluge or The Duelists
Very nice. Please, make a video commenting on Charlize Theron in "The Old Guard".
Both her weapon and fighting style are total bollocks. There you go :)
The force would have warned him, presumably.
She should have talked about the high ground, the ultimate technique in the galaxy. A bit of a let down.
9:33 it's not "glisade" it's "glissade"
You can pronounce it glee-cade (like the cade of facade and the ee is short)
Ikr. Also, since being french wouldn't Incortada pronounced as "ancortada"?
She has no first hand knowledge. She probably looked that up on wiki. I wouldn't take anything she is saying seriously.
@@patriciapinheiro8540 it's Italian, not French
@@julianakarasawa315 for real? Learning every day 😊
@@patriciapinheiro8540 The french equivalent is "incartade" ([ε ̃kaʀtad])
Her job title sounds cool till you realise that she's not an expert at real fighting, she's an expert at onscreen/stage fighting. She basically teaches choreography. Definitely a valid skill, but more of a performance art than a martial art
Would you say a stunt fighter isn't a martial art expert? Or a stunt driver isn't a driving expert?
I wonder if that isn't at least equally impressive. Learn all about how to fight--now dial it back and learn how do it all in a way that looks cool but won't get anyone hurt. Make it look like you're going full throttle, but in a way that's safe for people with no prior background and only a few months (if you're lucky) to train. Talk about walking a razor's edge. You might lose a little something in that the stakes are lowered, but I don't envy them their task list at all.
I mean, if you combined the 2 jobs, you could probably make a brand new weapon fighting style
23:40 , mate, that's an epee, not a foil.
And she's wrong about them having all of the protective gear for (sport) fencing: none of them are wearing plastrons...
A stage 'Fight Master'. Unimpressive.
Thank God she reviewed that Monthy Python Scene, I had always wondered...
Most of it is good and all but the Maul part....
"Maul is trying to divide and conquer"
also criticizes Obi-wan for slowing down when hes master gets knocked away and needs a little time to get back, instead of rushing after Maul >_>
Only complaint the Monty python fight was real....the black night was so brave 🥰
should have reviewed indiana jones versus the sword dude
"When faced with an opponent with a sword, and you have a gun... just blast him"
It sounds like she knows a bit about historical fighting techniques too, which is nice.
21:36 oh God there is a insect at the lower left side of my screen 😂😂😂
This lady literally studied the blade
I LOVE the title of "fight master"
The bending swords in the princess bride is also reminiscent of real fencing sabres
Fencing sabers, yes, but what they are using is supposed to be rapiers and those normally oughtta be more rigid than that.
Love the Highlander clip being covered.
The gratuitous handsprings were pretty puzzling... :-)
You need a degree in acting and fight science to know Oberen messed up by letting his guard down!! 😂😂😂 what an insightful analysis
I think analyzing the realism of I love You Man kills the comedic effect
Please, PLEASE, analyze the duel in the 1974 "The Deluge" Movie.
The Polish saber fight yes? That duel is *amazing.*
1:56 "I feel like Martell is more fit" Maybe the Mountain is not as agile as Martell, but he did break the world deadlift record a few months ago: ruclips.net/video/nA9XXU_nGPo/видео.html
Professor: "Shields are not just defensive weapons. They are also offensive weapons."
*Captain America has entered the chat*
Lol when the Phantom Menace clip began it cut to an ad with Ewan McGregor. 😂
Gotta admit, I *hate* CappaFerro. The weakened back leg position just kills me, I was very happy when we rotated to learning Bolognese
@@darrensanderson1031 Oh, my knees don't like it when I'm even a little back, I couldn't do Cappa Ferro properly. You use what works for you, really.
21:55 Lady, you haven’t heard of Half Swording. No you will not bleed if you are grabbing onto the blade.
"Some MFs always trying to skate uphill"...to this day, I have no idea which drugs make one say this
tbf it's a good almost metaphor
instead of saying "uphill battle"
“Sparks, Blade.”
I busted out laughing!
Love her!!! She should definitely make a comeback for more segments :)
Would be much better if they found someone with actual knowledge. Think she got her "degree" on Wikipedia.
Please bring her back! 🙏
Bravo. Great breakdown. ❤
This lady would for sure gut anyone who ever tries to mug her.
I want more videos with the fight master.
Asking a fight director if directed fights are realistic? How would she know? Ask a kendo master or fencing champion.
Loved this
I hope the Buffy/Angel swordfight makes it into this video
Finally an expert explaining why being a bigger opponent doesn't automatically makes you win an actual fight rather than a sport fight in a ring! I've been saying this for years.
Makes it easier, though. That's why there are weight classes.
It's clear that her focus is more on the narrative side than the historical/pragmatic, so take it with a grain of salt if you want to extrapolate to reality.
Thanks for the breakdown Christina, loved it!
She called Oberyn's weapon "almost a spear, a long quarter staff with a spear point on the end." Yeah that makes it a spear also its redundant to say spear point at the end. I have no idea why all these comments are praising her like she knows her stuff when she clearly does not.
Except it’s not literally a spear so it makes sense to differentiate
I believe they're actually called glaives when they have such a long shaft and blade, not spears. I may be wrong tho, this is based mainly off D&D knowledge
