i have never painted a day in my life and i have painted two canvas's today watching these vids, i did not expect them to look good AT ALL and dont get me wrong, they are not great like his paintings but i feel really surprised by how good mine actually turned out, plus i didnt think of killing myself the whole time,thanks bob your a great man
That’s how I started my friend. I hope you got better and better as I did and have some work that your really proud of. I fell off the painting recently but I just started again over this Christmas weekend and got 2 new paintings out of it. Such an amazing talent and a beautiful attitude towards life and the world in general. Even Count Dankula dedicated an episode of Mad Lads to Bob, it was a fantastic watch.

When I did GCSE Art class, I used to secretly beat my brush (so the teacher didn't see) on the table leg to clean and dry it, only now as I watch Bob do i realize that I was right in doing so.
I'm always grateful for the teachings of Bob Ross as even this technique for this medium can be modified for other mediums. For instance, I'm making a couple pieces that involve colored pencils. Some things have to be rearranged. Like, doing an image of this on white is backwards with dark colors on white paper.
He just loved to make the producer nervous, It had to be within a certain time frame, so often he made big trees close the ending of the show, just to see the producer bite nails and tear the hair out, he knew exactly how long time it would take to make it, so he was quite calm about it
What a gift to humanity you are. You're a huge source of inspiration to me, not because of your paintings but simply because of your character. RIP Bob, if anyone deserves to it's probably you. Regardless, making someone to want to be a better person is quite exceptional, so thanks for that!
I usually have a cold beer whilst watching, then I paint. One of these days, I'll be 1/1000th the painter he was. And even though I'm not a good painter, it makes me happy. And according to Mr. Ross, that's all that matters.

An incredible value to listen initially , then take the plunge . Watched Bob for many hours over a year or so then discovered I could do it . Tremendous value and joy can be had - sometimes the canvas gives back much more than you expected and this is the way we receive our encouragement - Like he said we can discover our very own place when doing this technique and it can be very rewarding plus we get to impress our friends :) Sold my first one very recently .
How does Bob do that? Talk about hurricanes calmly and softly, like it’s no big deal. He talks about it like it’s a fond memory of growing up in Florida. “They’d blow us about for days”.

Speaking of dryer, firmer paint... if you take your modern/affordable paints such as Gamblin 1980 or W & N Winton oil lines, if you put the different colors you're going to use onto a piece of cardboard before you work, the cardboard starts pulling out the oil binder thereby giving you a dryer/firmer paint to use. Trust me. Try it with your white for the mtn snow and watch it skip.

Yeah Gamblin 1980 has been hit or miss on the quality of the paint fresh outta the tube so far. But I've had great luck with WInton!
