just to say... NOT boring at all... i could sit and watch people watercolor all day! Some people will say boring i'm sure, but certainly others will say, OOH! nice! A long watercolor demonstration! Nice work btw! Thanks for sharing. :)
Don't you love all the fall colors? They can certainly INSPIRE us with their beauty! This watercolor has inspired me to paint.
Wow! Thank you so much for teaching a non-artist like me that even I can create something beautiful.
This is one of your older videos, but I found it upon looking for fall leaf watercolors. I just have to say, sometimes you are energetic and uplifting, like a faster, but happy dance song. Other times you are more laid back and quietly chatty as you work. I find it very soothing. Watching you here, it was almost hypnotic. And the colors you use almost make me smell wood burning fireplaces and cinnamon as you work. I am very appreciative because you not only teach, but just make it an enjoyable experience on so many levels. Sometimes you make me feel like a friend just working in the same room with you. Thank you Lindsey....for just being you. =) Hugs, Kat
P.S..You also make me miss New England so much. =P
Kat Tee I totally agree with everything you said.
It is never boring to see you paint, and you don't even have to talk all the time.Your work is always interesting! Thanks!
I love this tutorial. I recently got the 72 ct tin of Inktense as a surprise from my husband
It is such a pleasure to watch you craft. It doesn't matter what craft you are doing. I learn so much from you. Thank you for taking your time to show and teach us stuff. Always looking forward to your videos. Keep them coming. Hugs.
This just came up in my RUclips feed, Lindsay! Wow 8 years ago and still relevant information! 😊😊
You are a true artist. I love watching you work.
thank you for taking the time to show people how to craft. takes longer and more effort than leaving rude comments about irrelevant issues. for the record, i say DRAWING the same way you do...LOL in NH we are all WICKAD
You got that right, Wicked awesome that is;)
This is really great. This is exactly what I am looking for rather than doing it on a coloring book. Well done. I am totally convinced. Thank you so much.
I really appreciate the time you take to do these videos. We homeschool and I am turning this into an art lesson!
Thanks for another awesome and inspiring tute! I look forward to your videos every night (I am recovering from lung cancer surgery and lots of sleepless nights - you help soooo much!) . You have such an authentic and uplifting energy and always inspire me to create both by myself and with my kids. Love when we get to see your smiling face, too! xoxo
yes I did, it is a capelet and the pattern is free on Lion Brand Yarn website, I used 1 ball of fancy fur and 3 balls or boucile
NEVER boring! I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing with us!!!
You NEVER bore me when you demonstrate watercolors. I love watching your videos and can't wait to do some autumn leaves (it's July right now!)
Todd Brunhoff aww, thank you:)
Tracing nature, to paint nature. Simple yet brilliant! definitely not boring.
This came up in my feed after watching the crab video and I am so glad! It’s lovely!
Lindsay, for free motion quilters, we are told to draw our design with pen and paper and somehow the brain interprets that and we are able to repeat it with ease with no pattern. Thanks for your encouragement to try new things. I asked the other day where you got your inspiration and this is one of those times. Things in nature. I'm even thinking of things like spoons, jewelry etc to outline and then try to learn about shading....dee
That is beautiful. Its fall again now in 2015 so its great timing to go take a nature walk and find some cool leaves.
What beautiful fall leaves. I only have giant redwoods around me. On trip home from SF Bay Area end of Oct 2015, think I'll look for some pretty fall colored grape leaves from a vinyard to try this. Haven't traced in years. Thanks Lindsey
My favourite video of yours that I have seen so far 🙂 I have just ordered Ink tense pencils, so this was very helpful, Thank you!
Lindsay tq for this amazing tut, can't imagine how you make time for all these tuts! Think this one is my fave. Calling inktense watercolour is not such a grave mistake! People need to lighten up!
Hi Lindsay ! I have just received the Inktense watercolor pencils and they are so awesome !! I can't believe how good they are ! The best I have ever tried ! So now I have a second box in France when I go on vacations so I don't need to bring them with me and risk to brake them in the plane !
I am so happy you made me discover them ! Thanks a lot !
Lindsey, about the person who made the mean comment about your glasses...I feel sorry for them because they are not happy people. Not only do I love your tutorials, I love listening to you because you are always so happy. Thank you for taking the time to teach us. =^..^=
I so enjoyed watching you do this. We had to move to Texas from Missouri so my first fall not living in the middle of our beautiful woods......so miss the beauty of the changing colors,
you are so "boring" that I keep coming back to watch this over and over again.
Beautiful leaves. They looked so much like real leaves laying on the paper. I love the Inktense pencils also.
Omg I can't believe how much difference those shadows make! That's crazy!
Love watching you create. You make it look so easy and I love that you explain things to where it's easier to understand! I love your humor too! I truly enjoy watching your videos! Thanks for sharing!!
I came across this video today, and I thought ....what a great idea! When the leaves come out (we are still in the middle of a snowstorm by the way) I would like to try this technique. Thanks for the inspiration Lindsay. 🥰
Wonderful!
Everything you say makes sense..I'm going to try to do the window tracing and hopefully give me a better eye for drawing.....I'm going to try this too...love...love...your tutorials....I really enjoy watching you watercolor....
I just love simple clean cards like this. They really have the look of fine art and yet they (seem😉) easy to do.
This is so good!!! your so good!!! Thank you for showing us how to paint......I am new at this... thought I would watch some videos first and then start to paint!!! lol . You explain everything so clearly. And your funny too!! Thank you again....:))
I just got the deluxe version (full set) of Inktense after going to my local art store with my hubby for some additional colors and he was like ‘hich ones do you still need to get’ when staring at the display with the loose pencils and I was like... ‘all of them but 7, I only have 7 of them so far’ so he went out of our way and bought me the full set 😍
So now I’m scrolling through YT for extra tips and all. Love your take on these leaves, it’s easy enough to do it myself after seeing your tutorial so thank you 💜
Congrats on the pencils!
I'm ready to try my Inktense pencils so am glad to find this video. Thanks for this Lindsay. I just love the fall season. The colors are coming now in Ohio and there is a nice snappy coolness in the air. I've lived in Ohio all my life (62 years) and have seen a lot of gorgeous color, but I don't think I've ever seen an oak leaf with all that color, wow!
This is so awesome. I had no idea shadows could make such a difference. I'm learning to use inktense and only have 24 but want to get more if I learn to use them well. I think I can do this. Thanks for the tutorial.
Wow oh wow. That is so effective and pretty. Thank you.
Or you can get a smaller set (12-24) at ACmoore, HL or Micheals with a 50% off coupon and see what you think before you invest. I knew I wanted them all and it would be cheaper to buy them at once. I've used them a lot and let my kids use them and they have hardly worn down, you get a lot of pigment for the price. Still, it is an investment! I've had mine for a couple of years, I love them:)
Your card is so darn cute. Loved, loved, loved the colours. And, as always, I love watching you. You make it seems so effortless. Thank you.
It looks lovely and successfully done.
My class loves your videos keep it up.
Oh thank you so much Lindsey...I love the Oak and Maple leaf...gives me happy thoughts :) I have 3 maples...I planted myself so they are not big at all, 1 is about 15 feet the other 2 I ask for them on mothers day and they are only about 8 feet ...I named them after my 2 granddaughter...that way they help me water "their" trees... lol...again thanks so much for the leaves!!!
This is excellent! The leaves look so realistic especially once the shadows make them pop off the page. Great tutorial; can't wait to get my hands on inktense pencils and draw some leaves! Your personality is lovely and you make art look so easy. Thank you for being you (glasses or not LOL). 😊
Lindsay, your tutorials are so informative! Will be looking for leaves tomorrow and give this a try!!
Thank you for sharing.
You can never be scary - with or without glasses - with og without makeup!
I resently bought Derwent Inktense Pencils and are trying them out both on paper and on totebags...
The outcome is a bit so so... But I'm getting there in the end.
After this video I think I'll go out and pick some colourfull leaves!
Thanks for being such a great inspiration!
Love and light from cool Norway!
Lindsay...Wowzers! so very awesome...and I luv your little red knitted ? It's so cute.
Thank you Lindsy. I live in FL so I do not get many of the colorful leaves like you do in the North. I am going to stamp some leaves though and try to use some of the colors that you used. I have the complete set of inktense pencils. So far, I have not been very good with them. I will keep watching you and maybe I will get better. You make it look soo darn easy. Thanks again.
I don't have them but I think they are coming back into vogue, I saw a wonderful demo from Sweet Stamps at the heirloom show where she colored on a glittered panel (like they do with glitter ritz and copics) and the peerless stuck and was fab!
Love your Inktense leaves!! I'd like to try this on a sweatshirt or T-shirt!! You did this video about 3 1/2yrs ago... & I just 'discovered' Derwent Inktense pencils & blocks a couple days ago on other youtube videos!! This is sooo exciting!! Going to have to order online ASAP!! Thank you for sharing your creativity & your bubbly self with us!!
I can't wait to try this. Thank you. I am really enjoying the watercoloring lessons.
Very pretty! Thank you. I’m going to paint with mine tomorrow. It will be my first try. Your glasses look cute!
That looks amazing!
I don't remember, I would just look for earthy fall shades and test them on a scrap of paper before coloring on your painting, next time I will make sure to make a note of the colors I used because I have the full set too!
Beautiful I live in southern Cali in the desert not much for leaves. I wish we had something like that. I can't draw never learned but I love water color so I use stamps. Thanks for tutorials
that works too:)
I love making magic paint books (kinda) for my kids using the inktense pencils and stamped images. :)
I have really been enjoying your watercolor video's. I hope you keep doing them. I bought some inktense pencils & haven't done too much with them. I plan to follow along with some of your videos after the holidays. I have all of the mediums you've used up to this point & then some. Do you have peerless watercolors? I haven't used mine in years. They kind of remind me of those magic watercolor books from my childhood. I had forgotten about them until you mentioned them. Thanks! JIL
Thanks for the tips and comments regarding tracing. I always feel guilty doing it. It does help you learn to draw better. I don't have the Inktense yet but am seriously considering them.
WOW, you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.
crayols watercolor pencils, they are cheap but decent:) you can use watercolor paint as well:)
Love the tutorial. I've not used my Inktense pencils yet, but I feel confident that I can. I may try this very project. Thanks!
you make it look so easy. this is beautiful
Loved watching this. I really enjoyed your commentary and I've taken a lot of inspiration - thank you! Waiting on Inktense pencils to be delivered and I'm really excited to start working with them.
I'm glad you are enjoying them, take care:)
so glad I found your video. right now the leaves are about to fall and I just got some inktense pencils and looking forward to trying this. tfs
i just love the way you teach thank you so much your bright and happy you made your time on here a joy thank you keep on enjoy your life and keep on shareing your briight life you made other feel happy
darla arnold aw, thanks!
they are pricey, the best deal I found was on blick art materails, they have coupon all the time though, normally the set of 72 is $200 retail (insane!) but they sell them for $117 but they have 20% off and free shipping codes often so you can get the price down a lot. I think when I got mine I paid $70 and free shipping. Or you can get them individually ($2.69 retail, $1.79 Blick) and build your stash 1 at a time but if you think you want them all it is cheaper to get a set. Continued...
You are just adorable! And so freaking talented! Thanks for all these great videos.
Candice Michel aww, thanks:)
That's beautiful ! I can't wait to get some Inktense pencils. You ALWAYS inspire me. Hugs...
fantastic... will try this too dear Lindsay.. thank you very much!
This is wonderful. I was not bored but enthralled. For you maybe hum drum as you do so often...I'm learning and everything was well explained and demonstrated. 5 thumbs up
I'll try, I might change up the composition again so it is a bit different:)
Awesome! When I ran my teaching art studio we had a homeschool art class:)
Thanks for the inktense examples, and your other videos, I've learned a lot from watching you.
depending on how much paper of that type you have left there are a couple of options, = spray it with starch and iron it without steam, I live in an area where the nearest art store is a plane ride away! use less water. and don't go over a section many times.
Very nice Lindsay. Thanks for posting.
Subhash Verma thanks!
thanks, I made the capelet years ago from a free pattern on the Lion Brand Yarn website:)
Lovely work! great video :)
Watching in 2021... It's beautiful!
Thanks!
Lovely you make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing I really enjoy your videos.
I have a technique question about inktense pencils. Is it important to color sideways with them instead of directly with the lead down? It seems like the color releases better for you than it does for me. Sometimes my coloring lines from the inktense doesn't pick up with the water and brush. Does this ever happen to you? I LOVE this video and all your work. I tried this with my inktense pencils the other day and I didn't have nearly as pretty a result. Oh well time for more practice :))) THANK YOU!!!
Lindsey, I just love this video, and your results are gorgeous, and I always enjoy hearing what you have to say, about anything! I learned a lot in this video. Thank you! Thumbs up!
Amazing. You make these beautiful paintings seem so doable. I'll definitely be trying this. Which set of Inktense do you have? The 12 or more? Thanks!!!!
i love it, thanks for the tutorial... and no, no parts were boring !
As usual Lindsay just beautiful!!!!!!
You are GORGEOUS DAHLING! Maybe they need glasses if they cant see that! Love the videos you do! Cant ever get enough, and NEVER boring, Love hearing you chat, make me feel so at ease! Thanks so much for sharing!
Well I tried but I'm told it needs work. I guess I can't show you with a picture
,but....I'm not defeated. I love this technique so....on to the second one!
glad to hear it!
wow.. that's so cool.. and you made it look so easy
Thank you so much for this, I've been trying to decide if I want to buy the Inktense (they are ultra expensive in Australia) and this definitely helps towards the thinking that they are worth it :)
thanks...will try and get to HL (live in a rural area) will look for those brands...thanks so much ..love your watercolor tutorials. thanks again
I know this is old, but the video is very good, and you are NOT hideous with glasses. NOT at all.
Awesome, I never would have thought to do the shadow.
thanks Dawn, you are too kind:)
I just fall in love with this and you of course! Everyone is always saying to draw just by sight! Now i Can say that they are not right or wrong! I'm sure gonna try this tecchnique. Just a question. Can i do it with flowers too?
sure
Thank you for the very fast answer! God bless ya
I LOVE THIS!! Gonna do this with my kids tomorrow! Thanks so much for the inspiration
You're AWESOME!
As far as tracing...yes, it is not cheating. Lotsa artists do tracing before any painting, oil, watercolor, etc. I have taken a slew of classes and hear the same thing - use Tracing paper to help you along. No one is a natural artist - they all take some kind of lessons from previous people, who may have even been famous. In fact, I find that people need to be more adventurous and stop relying on others to teach them - it can open up their world to make mistakes & learn by lovely accidents.
I can draw without tracing... I knew how to draw before I went to college or took any lessons from anyone. There are people that can draw pictures from out of their head. I draw what I see, and I don't see anything wrong with tracing...in case you thought I was. I just know there are natural artists out there that do beautiful drawings without going for any lessons. :).
looks awesome
oh where do I begin...I went and tried this...huge fail!!! not sure if its the paper, the pencils, the watercolor or just me....my paper got all lumpy and pilly...and the moisture spread outside of the draw area...and that is just a few of my problems :/ ...will keep trying...you are my inspiration!!!!
I love these pencils!
