I love inktense on fabric - i bought a set of the sticks a few years ago and I do enjoy working with them. I always heat set with a dry iron on the fabric and I have washed it and it holds up very well and doesn't stiffen the fabric like fabric paints do. After seeing your video on the pencils and finding that 40% off coupon for michaels I jumped in and bought the set of 12. I can't wait to try them out! Yay! I bought pallets one and two last year! Although some of the color names are different. Oh well! Thank you so much for a demonstration to use it for cards!
Nice ink paint pallet, your butterfly’s looked great. Loved that soft blue you used. Thanks for showing us how these ink water paints flow, quite bright looking, was thinking the lavender would look a little muddy as there was so many colours but I guess this is the difference between water colours and ink water colours.

I used to use the fabric medium and it'd probably a good idea on unwashed fabrics like a canvas bag or apron but I found on cotton or prewashed fabrics it doesn't need it.
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks Lindsay! I was thinking of making some simple little mug rugs with coffee mugs or desserts painted on them, for gifts. Will be using cotton so will skip the fabric medium. Ooh, love these. I love my Inktense, pencils, but love how easy these are to use. Your butterflies look great...but this Texas girl would love to see a real Maine lighthouse! How about one in watercolor or alcohol markers?!

I got over an hour and a half of ads, and only 5 minutes weren't midroll interruptions. YT giving multiple 40 minute long ads during videos is insane.
Can you get the same effect doing that painting with the Inktense pencils? Can you still mix colors as well if you scribble the pencils on a palette, wet and then mix? I have the pencils but I haven’t used them yet so I’m wondering what is the best way to use them.
i am in LOVE with these. I actually bought the 72 set of the inktense blocks, cut them into smaller pieces and put them in DIY watercolor tins, so I could have all their colors. These are for sure my fave watercolor type product. (Not that I have too much experience with watercolors). Great vid, as always. Love your stuff!!
Thanks Dean! I'll have a review coming up in a couple weeks. There are 9 new colors in the pan set but they are available open stock do if you like any of the new colors you can get it in a half pan and pop it in your palette:)
Love this! Also QUESTION: are there different colors in the studio set then the 2 smaller sets? I have both of them but don’t want to purchase this if they’re the same colors
It's confusing because I think they released a 12 set and then came out with set #1 and set #2. If yu get set #1 and set #2 there are no duplicates and the colors in #1 and #2 together are in the 24 set according to Derwent. On blick they list three 12 pan sets and one has duplicates. Here is the derwent chart with lightfast info and you can see what colors are in what sets: media.accobrandspartner.com/a/420096?
Such a gorgeous painting Lindsay. I really need to try and pair alongside you. Think I'm going to get my watercolours out this weekend. Might have to ask for the inktense paints for my birthday. You're doing my mental health so much good during this pandemic, but my bank balance is struggling 😀😀
It depends if you want to apply them dry or wet . You can do both with the blocks. I am going to try the pand on fabric soon so I'll have a better idea then. I will say I prefer the pencils on twill, denim or canvas as it grabs the pigment. On soft fabric (like t shirt material) I prefer painting it on like eith blocks or pans.
Agh. The evil bead! They’ll getcha. I didn’t know they made a 24 set. I think i want these. I’d like to use them for the underpainting, light washes of color blocking that won’t lift. Do you think they’re worth it for that purpose? I don’t want them really for full paintings.
You have been doubting on those for ages :P can't wait to see if it works for you. ( Im dying to try the beautiful range of the earthtones in the inktense blocks set of 72 a bit more )
PS I use the blocks like I would a wc pan ; if I put it directly on the paper it is more opaque but that would,at least with my pencils, be the case as well if I put to much on the paper. I love to use m for tone on tone value practise or for a wc grissaile bc it does not lift it is perfect for that.
These looks so wonderful!!! Where they are opaque, does the dried painting feel chalky at all? The price is so good on blick right now. I may get a set to try out.
Beautiful postcards Lindsay, but I'm not surprised. Looking forward to tomorrow. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I have never been very happy with Inktense products. There are so many other paints (I know they are supposed to be ink) that give better quality colors. I couldn't find my blocks so I used my pencils and a wet brush to get the liquid character you were using. The colors come out looking flat. I loved the picture and will try again with some other product. I should confess I am not a great painter and it isn't unusual for my first try to not look so good, but I think part of the blame is from the Inktense colors. I noticed that the name of the colors you were using do not match the names on my pencils. Do you think they are trying to fit into the paint community by making their names match closer to standard color names? Hmmm... Thanks for the video, loved the picture.
I think the goal with the pan set is to bring out only lightfast colors and those tend to be more muted. There are 9 new colors in the pand not in the regular lightfast range. I found the pencils to be more luminous than the blocks. I recommend trying them on fabric, they are wonderful! This project can be done with your favorite watercolors tho so use what works best for you!
23 out of the 24 colors are lightfast, they glaze well and are permanent on fabric. I'll have a full review in a couple of weeks. I liked to them on Blick where they have the best price. They are also available open stock if you just want to try a few colors.
I was watching a random tutorial the other day regarding watercoloring over stamps for cards.. and she had some sort of a cream you literally rub over the paper after it is painted and inked which renders it waterproof. I don't recall what it was called.. but there is a way to make your postcards waterproof.
"Watercolor and Inktense side by side, not much difference when using water,Inktence being much Boulder in color,it takes a special talent, shall I say Lindsay!!!-Lynn this is so beautiful Lindsay.🌹
Thanks Lindsay. I got a 12 color set of the inktense pans thinking it would be good for plein aire. And was so disappointed how opaque and dull they were when they dried. Almost chalky looking but not in a good pastel painting way. Also I got muddy color when mixing. Maybe the 24 set is better for mixing as there are more to choose from. I'm glad I found them on a super sale and got them for a song. I gave them to the kids as they don't do mixing or care if they stay transparent. 😉🙃💜
Oh no! That's a bummer, I think they ha anorinal 12 set and then did away with it opting for a set #1 and set #2 with no overlap in colors. I know they wanted to only bring the lightfast colors out in the pans so that's probably why the colors were dull. I felt the same way about the blocks (LOVED the vibrant pencils) until I used them on fabric and I was hooked! I don't quilt properly however I have an idea that I'd like to do an art quilt sometime using these! I've seen other quilters use them and it is so pretty. Maybe try them on fabric and see.

It's up to you, they are lightfast tho (23 of the 24, watch out for cherry) so there should not be any issue.

Thanks Lindsay.
This seems like such a cool product!
Very pretty. Would love to receive this in the mail.
I see you sketch a lot, what if you (meaning me) Can’t even draw a stick figure. How do you recommend starting it?
Lindsay has a beginners drawing class in her teachable school. Highly recommend!
Thanks! That is a great class to learn or you could trace if all you want to do is paint.
I’d recommend landscapes and flowers. Anything with simple shapes
I love the inktense pans. Could you show us how to paint the orchid?
And the peacock 😱
Beautiful ❤️
That came out beautiful!🦋
Beautiful !
Great video. Thanks for sharing ♥️
Thank you for uploading this video, it’s very informative 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I just bought the set of 12 now I wish I’d waited. I didn’t know they had a 24 set
You can buy the second set of 12 for no repeats...I believe Cult Pens has them both , and the larger set...in England.
Lovely!
These looks so wonderful!!! Where they are opaque, does the dried painting feel chalky at all? The price is so good on blick right now. I may get a set to try out.
Not the colors I used but the earth tones may
Beautiful postcards Lindsay, but I'm not surprised.
Are they India Ink? Is that why they are permanent when dry? BTW, I LOVED your hand puppet butterfly. LOL!
I'm not sure how they would get india ink in a chunk like that. Whatever it is its cool!
omgoodness inktense pans?! yaaaaay ayyyyyyy ayyyyyy ayyyyyy
Great job I have never heard of this of paint. Can you give us (me) more information on them.
23 out of the 24 colors are lightfast, they glaze well and are permanent on fabric. I'll have a full review in a couple of weeks. I liked to them on Blick where they have the best price. They are also available open stock if you just want to try a few colors.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you so much for taking the time to answer a very newbe painter.
This came out beautiful!
I was watching a random tutorial the other day regarding watercoloring over stamps for cards.. and she had some sort of a cream you literally rub over the paper after it is painted and inked which renders it waterproof. I don't recall what it was called.. but there is a way to make your postcards waterproof.
Probably microglaze
Love this!
I've had them for about 3 yrs. I don't use them often though. They are very staining, but that's to be expected
I have the blocks and when they dry they have a chalky pastel look to them. You got to be careful because you can smear the paint around.
"Watercolor and Inktense side by side, not much difference when using water,Inktence being much Boulder in color,it takes a special talent, shall I say Lindsay!!!-Lynn
this is so beautiful Lindsay.🌹
Aww, Lynn, thank you so much:)
@@thefrugalcrafter you are very welcome Lindsay🌹
@@thefrugalcrafter I'll try on fabric. Thanks Lindsay. I got the #2 set.🙃💜
I assume this is an acrylic paint formulation.
I don't think so because the dry block rewets
@@thefrugalcrafter Interesting! Now I'm really curious about this product! 😊👍
I love inktense but they weren’t lightfast for me.
The pans? I know there are fugitive colors in the pencils and blocks but they selected lightfast colors for the pans they say
@@thefrugalcrafter I haven’t tried the pans. That would be wonderful if they are lightfast. I used the pencils. Can’t remember which colors faded.
