  • Graeme Boardman is one of the most mysterious but fascinating characters to come out of Manchester's underworld. A man his best friend Paul 'One Punch' Doye claims is psychotic and has a violent thirst that cannot be quenched. In this episode, Boardman and Doyle take on a whole rugby team in an epic fight in Salford.

Graham worked for/with me for a few months about 1991 at a club in Chorlton in Manchester, Shades. No doubt about it he was a character, frightened of nothing and a very scary man to get on the wrong side of. I really liked him.
We had a big kick off with some goons from a local estate one night, they got a good tanning and inevitably the old bill got involved and they wanted his (Graham) name and address, I threw a name at them that I made up off the top of my head and that name was "Joe Clinton" and I told them I had no idea where he lived and that he was just filling in (pun intended) for that weekend. I moved on from the club and the staff all signed a card when I left. Graham signed it to "The best boss I've ever had, signed Joe Clinton" which amused me no end.😁
So I'll sign off on this with RIP Joe Clinton (he would find that amusing).......Sleep well pal.

@@enquirer2.0 He never really talked about himself or his past much mate, and I didn't pry. The less you know the less you can say is the way I always looked at things. What I do remember is his accent was not a blatant northern accent, to be honest he had what I would call a posh accent he was quite well spoken. I had the impression he had a bit of a middle/upper class upbringing but can't testify to that.
I worked the door in Manchester for best part of 20 years (late 70's-early 90's) and knew some old school legends from back in the day before the Doorsafe registry came about and the agency thing took off. Danny Ford, Lenny Howarth, Graham Lenagan, Italian Pete, Cardiff Pete, Tiny, Johnny Whin, Jimmy Howarth, Frank Heeny, Crazyhorse, Billy Heeley to name a few and there were plenty others. All named there have gone now other than one or two and they are in their 80's now.
Graham came along later on just about the time I was getting out of the game. He was like a lot of the old legends but in a new wrapper. Almost like he was born a bit later than he should have been. He wasn't everyone's cup of tea but as I said I liked him because he was a character and he didn't give a flying f**k. I was gutted when I heard what had happened to him.

Graeme did come from Irlam and in his youth he was what you would call a gifted natural athlete, good at all sports and I work with him over the years along with Paul and found him to be sound, just a person who would not back down, never started a fight just finished them and unfortunately I know about his demise so RIP pal, thankfully though one of people involved due to their activities along side a criminal family in the news is now in jail, also Paul's book is a good read and the only accurate account of some activities which went on in Mcr during that time, not like all the other story books, Respect to Paul and Graeme

I like the story Doyle tells about when a car full of Manchester's finest pulled up, I think, outside the Inn of Good Hope, when he and Graeme Boardman were on the door, and they intimated that they wanted the door on one of the clubs that Boardman looked after. Boardman offered them all out there and then, but none of them fancied their chances in a street fight with him. I believe it was Dessie Noonan, Paul Massey and Paul Flannery in the car. I think that speaks volumes of how handy Boardman was with his fists.
