    I just purchased my first trials bike. I wasn’t sure which to get the Jitsie varial 24 hybrid or the extention Potts 24 steel in the luxe lemon color. I really liked that color but I wasn’t seeing much about the brand and it was heavier overall compared to the Jitsie. I haven’t been on a bike in a few years and I’ve always wanted to try trials so I guess we will see. I still dig that luxe lemon color though.

    I was expecting the issue with the freewheel, because DT Swiss doesn't really build any high engagement mechanism. After you get used to the 72 or 102 clicks of trial, every other bike seems so slow in response. Nobody really needs the 690 points of the industry nine, but definitely should be more than those 30 or 42 engagement points that you find on most MTB hubs. Actually since you know them well, it could be really interesting if you could build a wheel with a Onyx Vesper hub (maybe you can put on the Canyon if they make the size), which has in theory infinite (instant) engagement points and report your impressions in a next video...

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  Год назад +1

      I have one of those Onyx hubs on my MTB right now, and I don't know if I'd recommend it for trials. The engagement feels spongy compared to my other trials-specific hubs, I don't think the clutch style hub is the best configuration for trials, even if it is "technically" instant engagement.
      That said, I am really curious to see what I can get done on this hub. I know I'll be riding at a slight disadvantage, but I wonder sometimes if we get spoiled as trials riders. Back in the day, Jeff Lenosky competed in the pro class on Shimano hubs and was almost always on the podium.

      @@SuperRiderTV Thanks for sharing such great videos! For the freewheel, it seems to be the 135.9 freewheel, wondering why it skips? Not fully bedded in?

    Gotta extend those legs more to get that gap. That's about the only difference I see in the video you showed and what you are doing. The camera @10:43 with the Canyon bike made it look like the wheel size was changing, big back wheel, equal size wheels, then big front wheel. I thought I was going crazy. Chris king hubs not used anymore? The 203mm remind of what I had on my trials/bike polo bike.

      Chris King stopped their single speed hubs, from what I've heard. Such a bummer - but thankfully there are some other options out there!

    does anybody know how the sizing works for the canyon bike cause it only comes in a medium and i’m 6’2 and normally get a large, or extra large if i want more space. so im a litttle hesitant about getting this bike cause im afraid it will be too small. but i know fabio is like 6’3 so it should be ok right?

    Would this be complete overkill for a trials noob who is pretty tall and heavy?

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  4 месяца назад

      It's definitely a solid option to start, although you could probably spend about $1k less and still get the same results. Check out Inspired Bicycles, their Fourplay Pro complete bike is relatively easy to find and a bit more affordable. A lot of the trials tutorials on this channel are filmed on that bike (it's the blue bike).

      @@SuperRiderTV I already watched a lot of your videos - getting super pumed. 40 years old… had a BMX at 16 and somehow the itch is back. Will probably feel like a total goof but it is what it is.
      Whats your take on the following? (I am tall and relatively heavy):
      1. Fourplay age. Would you say a 2018 is still up to date?
      2. Brakes with 2 or 4 pistons? I see many bikes with Magur 5s or even 7s.
      3. If money is not an issue: Used Fourplay Pro or Canyon?

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  4 месяца назад +1

      @@MrSlapp Awesome! Your BMX background will help a lot. Also, I'm 44, so you've still got plenty of time! 2018 Fourplay is still legit, and honestly I think better than the Canyon. The reason I suggest it is that the Fourplay has all trials-specific parts on it, where the Canyon comes with a lot of MTB-spec parts that sort of work for trials. I prefer four piston brakes, and if you're buying them - I recommend Hayes Dominion instead of Magura MT7s.

    Fun watching you share the shred spot and get playful with some lines. You were pretty kind about the hub, but that would drive me nuts to get that nice of a bike and have that hub.

    • @SuperRiderTV
      @SuperRiderTV  Год назад

      So fun to have someone to ride with in there. Offer is always open if you find yourself out west! The hub thing is a tough one...I mean, obviously it's not a "trials hub" on a trials bike. But...given the frame material and other specs on the bike, the price point would be astronomically higher if you did spec a trials hub. Tough call, I think I probably would've just gone for the higher price point with perfect parts. If you're buying a carbon bike, why not have it perfect to start? That being said...if you're investing in a carbon trials bike, there's a decent chance that you already have a trials bike and can swap in your existing trials hub.
