    Well done, young fella! It's nice to see a young man willing to work hard instead of being lazy n getting into trouble. Keep it up. Don't let the negative people pull you down!

    Patton Woodworks
    One good thing came from the Negative comment from Russ B.
    After reading your excellent response to him, I watched the video again with a more informed perspective. I was now aware of the history of the personal investment that went into your acquisition of the Woodmizer, and your personal hard work to construct the building. I took note of the newness and beauty of your shed, better able to appreciate your hard work and talent.
    I am sure that your parents are fine people, but whether or not that is the case, you are a talented and amazing young man with strong character. That is made clear by watching even this small moment from your day and reading your perfect response to a personal attack from a sad petty man.

      Tony Ketcham thank you I am glad that you are able to see that in me and I really appreciate it. I love doing this i find it very enjoyable. My parents are awesome people. They support me with everything. My dad loves to help me out and pull boards off the mill. He’s loves to build furniture so I cut a lot of wood for him for his projects. I really appreciate all of your kind words. Thank you!

      I am really impressed. That must have taken a lot of hard work. You'll certainly find your way in life now, as you've learned to see opportunities and make the best of what you've got. Life will always deal us a rough hand now and again, but knowing how to put your best foot forward will surely help getting through that. Best of luck to you!

    I started roofing at age 11 I'm 45 now. Keep up the hard work and you'll have no regrets in life. Who knows as good as that shed looks no reason you couldn't mill the wood to build your own house one day. Congratulations on your success in life. Keep your head up and haters out! One more thing, I'm not telling you what to do. I'm not a wood person. But I've seen in other videos where they would put boards in between each other so they could dry out when stacking them.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  6 лет назад +1

      FATBOY LLC that’s awesome. Thank you I will keep on working hard for sure. One of my goals one day is to build a house with the wood I cut. I think that would be really a good experience to do. And yeah I sticker them once I get them to where I stack them up I had to move them all again with the tractor and sweep off the dust before I stacked them. Thanks for all the words of encouragement I appreciate it a lot!

    I'm always amazed watching folks with hydraulic mills taking the time to use the log turner to roll it when it gets down to a cant. My WM is manual, and I can flip a cant much faster with a cant hook, inspecting the face as I go.

    • @tKetcham1
      @tKetcham1 6 лет назад +2

      Ed Smith
      I had immediately noticed the log turner as well. I am not in the industry, so my only exposure is to watch this amazing work online. I had never seen such a small mill with a log turner like that. He seemed to have the ability to use it without even thinking.
      It would seem to me that once the investment is made in the hydraulic log turner climbing up and down to do it by hand would fall out of habit, even with the benefit of more closely inspecting the log. But I'm kind of lazy.
      You guys are much harder men than me. You have my respect my friend.

    NW Sawyer mentioned you so when this video popped up, I decided to check it out.
    First, I don't need to tell you how to handle trolls since you have that figured out.
    Third, well done with the way that you are building your future. I didn't read all of the comments, but mostly, folks were supportive and most importantly, helpful. I was watching April Wilkerson cut her first full log on her Cremona mill and she left everything on the log then put a strap around it and lifted it all at once, moving it to the stacking area. This means she only handled it one time. She has the resources and workspace to do this, but it was another look at how things could be done.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  5 лет назад

      Timothy Ball he’s a great guy! Thank you I appreciate it. Yes most are super supportive and helpful and I am thankful for that. I’ve got a skidsteer now and can pick up all the logs and move them wherever I need to after I cut them. When I took this video I only had a little tractor and had to use the 3point hitch for everything and wasn’t very practical but made it work. I’ve got things a lot more efficient now, I just don’t have a very good video showing everything. Thank you for watching I appreciate it!

    Many have offered words of wisdom and advice....I guess it's my turn. 1) Work smarter, not harder. 2) Always do quality work. 3) A good reputation is hard to earn but easily ruined. 4) Don't trade your honor or morals for anything or any reason.

    Great job milling up that log. You are a testament to your generation that hard word and dedication won't kill you. Any reason you choose a bandsaw mill vs a swingblade mill? Even with hydraulics and support equipment, all the log handling and rotation is a bunch of extra work. With a swingblade mill you cut finished, edged, dimensioned boards right off the log.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  6 лет назад

      bwillan thank you sir! I love hard work it makes me feel good at the end of the day. I chose the bandsaw because of the very little kerf of the blade. I do about 75% milling of love edge wood so I wouldn’t be able to do that with the swing blade. For what I do it just works best for me. The swing blade are very cool though I’d love to see one in action someday

      1963JamesT Thank you! With the way I have the shed set up and the ground around the outside of the shed this is about the only option I have. It’s just temporary once I have my own property I will build a shed that is set up a lot better now that I know what I need to have. I’ll give a little walk about the sheds we build in a future video and it’ll give you an idea of what I have going on. I usually have a big respirator on so I don’t breath it in so much

    Awesome set up...Congrats! We have an LT45 Super Hydraulic with a stationary control panel. We also covered ours and rely on customers bringing timber to us. We created a load zone if you will using two twenty foot I-beams which allow our logs to be rollable onto the hydraulic log lift. We then discharge scraps on the other side by the use of a forked front end loader. I like your set up but hate watching you handle the slabs soooo much. Happy Milling!!

    If only there were decent trees in my area to mill. Its like fighting tooth and nail for decently sized logs. Also not having a mill doesnt help either, but 1 step at a time. I can mill with a chainsaw and ladder to get by, but the logs are a problem.

    You should be a very good inspirational guide for those who are young, but need a positive direction in life. BTW : Do yourself and your back, a great big favor, by raising the bed of the sawmill up high enough, so that you will no longer need to bend over to see clearly what or where your blade is cutting or to get an accurate sight of the log being cut.

    I'd like to know what kinda job you were givin that allowed you to afford such an expensive piece of equipment. I can tell you when I turned 15 I started working part time while in school and I would've needed prob a $15-20/hr job to save up enough in 3 years time. good for you though, better than spending it on some useless investment.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  6 лет назад +4

      SaltyBro well I can tell you the only things I were ever given was a loving family and friends and the gift of working hard. I worked at a family friends construction business since I was 14 during the summers and winters after football practice was over. I payed $1400 to my first sawmill which was a Norwood lm29 and that has been pretty much the only money I’ve ever used from a job to pay for a sawmill. I worked my butt off with that sawmill to pay it off and pay for building the sheds you see in the videos and all the woodworking tools and then I save up after that and made the down payment on this mill. I bought it in October and payed it off in June. 100% of the money was from the sawmill in one way or another. Going all over to cut lumber, cutting at our house and selling wood I cut. It was one of my most accomplished moments paying off that sawmill every single penny of it from money that I’ve got from my own hard work while in high school. I’ve just always loved working hard and especially when I love cutting lumber as much as I do it isn’t to difficult.
