WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

There's no hate like Christian love.
... and vice versa
There is no greater enemy to Christianity than the Christians.
they are just mimicking their god!
Great bumper sticker!
Ain’t that the truth
"We prove fraud in the scientific community by doing better science, not better religion." Yep.
Good post and well said….
Yes, Piltdown Man was found to be a fake primarily because he didn't fit into the evolutionary chain anywhere.
Ignorant callers are always the most fun.
So, most of the Theist callers then. ;)
Jay: "Yeah well uhh you're ignorant too! Huh! Gotcha there didn't I! So you got nothing and god is real!"
I don't think he's ignorant so much as a troll who wants to cause trouble. I get very strong ShockOfGod vibes from him.
Unfortunately the most depressing at the same time.
@@religionisevil8850 He opened up by calling them angry atheists, so I think he is an angry ignoramus. I dont know ShockOfGod, but like Matt pointed out, he did try to be shocking with somethings and then defend them with religion after they were called out. He really believes, but he's also an angry passive-aggressive jackass.
"I feel like we're talking to an Evangelical Christian meme generator!"
That shit cracked me up for real hahaha
Legit it was the perfect description for all that bs 🤣
More machine than man.
I'm gonna use that one!!!!
That was the best part of this whole call
I think this is the funniest thing I've ever heard Shannon say. And when Matt said: "You're full of shit", that was beautiful too.
prime example of Christian tolerance.
...and let's not forget showing the _love of Jeeezuz!_
@@bigskypioneer1898
What is (in your estimation) the love of Christ?
Typical America.
Backward country nr 1.
@@john2635 if love means anything in the context of "loving Christ" it would mean taking his words, all his words, seriously. So treat others with kindness, and not just your friends. Seek to put others before yourself, and give up those things that make you selfish or self centred. Never judge others because we don't know their hearts, and actions are easily misinterpreted. Be grateful for what you have, and try to use your gifts to help others. Worry about your own failings and errors, if you think others are acting wrongly, make sure you are perfect before starting to criticise. If you think you are perfect, you are wrong lol.
@@daistoke1314 dont forget to put your religion before family.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26
Jay pushes the boundaries of how stupid a human being can possibly be.
Jay is classic example of the failures of home schooling mixed with religion.
@@hopsta5628 yeah this home schooling garbage should be outlawed with the intent to standardize learning with an emphasis on critical thinking skills. It’s child abuse and real indoctrination that takes place in too many of these home schooled environments.
The sad part is you know he hung up from that call thinking, "I really showed those stupid atheists!"
Show me a monkey half way turning in to a human. Ya right on.
... and still walk upright.
Imagine a religious fundamentalist calling someone else mentally ill...
If nonconformity is mental illness, North Korea is paradise on earth.
I had a Christian call me a racist for telling him he was using a no true scotsman fallacy.
we should really change the name of it to the "no true christian" fallacy
How dare you call me a scotsman
😂
As a 1970’s teen, the main thing that had driven me away from religion back then, was its tolerance for intolerance. Today, it’s even worse than ever.
A lot of that intolerance is driven by fear. Stats show the USA is now more divided between religious and secular than at any other time in history. It's a clear divide of rural vs big city dwellers. They are the losing team and they know it. That's why the big push to control the laws of the land out in the open (as opposed to the bible thumbers simply being spiritual advisors on the downlow to presidents). They are now actively participating in governance of the people in the rural areas of the country as well as the big cities. They aim to rule us all like the French cardinals did in the UK and other places that are far more religious than North America is. They aim to strengthen their chokehold, not ease up on it.
Not quite. It is their tolerance of THEIR intolerance.
I wouldn’t say it’s worse. At least homosexuals are comfortable going to church now. And there’s no longer whites only churches.
The American version of the Taliban.
(In this case actions speak louder than words), Whether they like it or not!
@@staceye2851 when did French cardinals rule the UK?
The caller accused Matt of being a homosexual when he's not because the caller is such a closed minded bigot, he can't imagine being kind to people that are not like him. So being kind to homosexuals, in his mind, can only happen if you are one. That's what I'm guessing.
It’s because Matt’s girlfriend has a penis.
Nah, he was just trying to be amusing. I'm willing to bet he recorded the conversation so he could show all the boys at work how he destroyed the Hell bound heathens
with his razor sharp and epic wit.
I thought he was trying to say all Atheists were Homosexual.
I think he mistakenly thought he was on his Grinder account and was trying to get a date.

I liked the part where the caller pretended they weren't trying to be derogatory. The calm tone of the answers must have thrown them off balance.
Jay is probably so riddled with hate such accusations and insinuations would send him into a high holy rage, and he believes it must be the same for everyone.
He was trying to rile them up so he could say "Look how hateful and mean atheists are!"
Jay is an embarrasment. If I was a christian, and he was on my team, I'd switch sides.

First give him the finger right to his face, then switch sides.

Exactly the reason I'd like to switch sides after reading r/atheism alas I cant because no matter how many teenage idiot atheists spew their bullshit on reddit it won't change the fact that god does not exist and thus since I'm recognizing this fact I'm an atheist by definition

People like Jay are part of the reason I left the church. I just couldn't associate with such ignorance any more.
Are you still of faith or have you left it behind entirely?
Did you also leave because Christianity didn't make sense to you?
Matt, just flip the question around: "What evidence do you have that man was made from dirt?"
The answer will likely be "the Bible."
"Are you referring to Genesis? Ok. Which version and which chapter of Genesis - One or Two?"
The Bible can't even keep the creation of people straight a few verses apart from each other.
The authors did way too many drugs
Like the New Testament, the Old Testament is a bunch of different passages written by different authors and compiled together. The main difference is almost of the passages were written down in the same place and around the same time (in the libraries of Babylon during the Babylonian Exile) and were a combination of stories and events from Jewish folklore along with stories and events from throughout history. Genesis 1 and 2 are both interpretations of the Sumerian Creation myth, interpreted by different scribes.
The Sumerians believes that they were made from clay of the earth, that had life breathed into them from their gods. So they were half earthly and half divine. The Sumerian gods were not omnipotent, they all had domains of influence and personal limitations. This is why they needed fruit trees to both inform them on Good and Evil, and to grant them Eternal Life.
This is also why some were so frightened when the first humans ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, because then if they ate from the Tree of Eternal Life, they would be just like the gods themselves.
@@atraxisdarkstar When you step back and view those writings this way - it all makes so much sense. As opposed to the first 40 years of my life when I tried to make them not only work together but to fit into the science we know today. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

If God started out omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent, then why should we praise him? That’s like praising someone for having brown eyes when they were born that way. It’s not like god struggled with imperfection, overcame it and arrived at a state of perfect being. And if god is perfect, then why would he need us to worship or praise him. That “need” would be a kind of a character flaw which, by definition, he can’t have, so, he must neither need nor want us to worship and praise him. If you worship to gain favor, and God gave favor to those that worshiped him, that too would be a character flaw, right? Giving some people a boon but not others is unequitable. If he was inclined to give a boon to some of us, wouldn’t an omnibenevolent god give ALL of us everything we need or want? And, if he did give us all everything we need or want would that not cheat us out of the opportunity to rise above our limitations and become better people? So, when you think about it, “Prayer” is a bunch of hooey. You would not be able to gain a boon by praying. Even praying for people you don’t know personally but heard about, which outwardly has the appearance of selflessness, is kind of selfish because you are asking god to upset the natural order of his universe to make the world “better” by your account. A selfless person would assume that all things are as they are meant to be and the only thing that needs to change is “us”. A perfect god would never change the universe to accommodate us, or would have made it different from the outset knowing that we were going to pray for something different.
Christians worship God because he saved us. No character flaw in God...our worship is an expression of gratitude for what God did by sending His son to die for our sins. From a Christian perspective it is not about us...never was...Christ has always been front and center.
What “saving” did he do? He supposedly impregnated a virgin, was born, lived as a human for 33 years and was arrested, convicted, tortured and killed, and stayed dead a day and a half tops, then flew back to heaven, all to supposedly “forgive” sin.
Your imaginary friend couldn’t just forgive humanity without such a convoluted plan?
@@johnh7939 saved us? From what?
From the very sin he created us with?
You cant even get your story straight.
Prove your god exist first.
Without that, anything god believers say is just pure and utter bs.
@@ajclements4627 It's even worse than that, since before then was also the whole Noah myth, which involved this same deity genociding the entire world via flood (save for 8 people and a bunch of animals, all of whom would go on to reproduce the world with a bunch of incest...and then humanity later getting even more incest with Lot) to "cleanse the world of sin".
So this deity, who introduced "sin" into the world, can't figure out how to get rid of it without genocide or a blood sacrifice? What an incredibly stupid deity.
@@johnh7939 saved us from how he made us? He made us flawed, then demands to be worshipped because if we don't he will burn us in Hell? So he will save us from what he is wilfully doing to us? That makes zero sense.
This was one of the funniest interviews ever!
First time watching anything Atheist experience related and i love it.
