goddamn...what you made there, starting at min 12:14 is the most beautiful thing I´ve ever heard on modular..!!!! That could be a track just of its own!
Wow cheers man! I love getting comments like this ☺️ glad you enjoyed it!!
@@TheUnperson I would love to see a short tutorial just on the making of that section and how we might produce similar in different ways. Really magical.
Seconded, that is DIVINE. Please make a tutorial on the making of that part!
Pourquoi ne pas en faire un titre , j'adore ce passage "chill out" et je ne suis pas le seul vu le nombre de "like"
Eve Online
wow, I was not expecting that. The music was absolutely beautiful! Not often you find the music to be the best part of a synth tutorial, love it!
Cheers man! Really glad you enjoyed the music in the vid ☺️
Yeah it's an epic performance masquerading as a review
If you're ever looking for something to do, I would looooooooove to have an hour long version of that first drone with the rings and databender tweaking. Just what you were doing for like, an hour to listen to at work. Cheers
haha! Damn I think I spent about an hour droning before I hit record too... if you had said earlier XD
You could recreate that pretty damn close in VCV Rack, they model Rings and most other Mutable instrument modules.
@@serge933yes, should be indistinguishable (except for the joy of wiggling the knobs), since they use the same code that Mutable does.
shit not only is this an amazing walkthrough, i'd listen to an EP of every tune you composed during it.
cheers man! I really should try put something together with some of the demo tunes :)
I’d listen to an LP!
Really enjoying this! I'm still rather new to this modular thing (all still basically typical subtractive) but I really want to start moving beyond that and this video has given me loads of new ideas. Thanks for showing this remarkable module - you are right, I had no idea what a powerful and beautiful module it is... I must find out more! Thanks loads!
Such an amazing video. I really didn't expect that. Thanks for giving us such an informed and enthusiastic view on this awesome module. You frankly sold it to me now.
cheers man! :D
You just blew my mind. I have Rings, but had no idea of the secret Easter egg. That chord mode is what I am going to work with once I am back at my place. ❤
Thanks for this great video. Very very inspiring - it's great to see melodic keyboard driven tunes played on a modular, that's the direction that I want to go in. Incredible to see how much can be done with so few modules. Awesome!!!
Cheers man! Yea it took me a while to figure out how best to do melodic stuff on modular! lol
It’s clear you’ve put time into the module to master it. Makes for a much more substantial and informative demo. Thank you
Rings is by far one of my all time favorite modules, and this walk-through is exemplary! Beautifully done.
thank you! :D
I just can feel so much passion in your voice and the way how you talk about this module and how much you love it !!! sending hugs from new zealand .thanks for share this really nice video .
hey cheers!! Thanks for your awesome and kind comment :D
Your MI demos are eye opening and very helpful to me as I’m just getting started with modular and MI is my favorite. Thank you! Very beautiful sounds.
Thank you! I think MI modules are perfect for beginners as they are instantly fun, and deep enough to explore for years!
Best demo I've seen about this module. I've got one for a long time and this inspired me again. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers man! I'm enjoying your vids - lovely sounds :)
I come back to this from time to time for inspiration. Rings got me into modular and remains my favorite module. Great demo, well presented. I really enjoy your work-thank you!
Thank you! Still one of my favourites too after all these years :)
You opened up so much more for me and Rings. Nice work here!!
cheers man! :D
Beautiful work ! What a sensibility in this demo... Un superbe bravo !
Thank you! :D
Thanks for this video. :) I was tempted to sell my rings, but this is definitely inspiring to go back and play with it some more.
Great video 🎉
The outro piece starting around 17 mins. Yeah, that was a vibe. 1st time I’ve listened to a module review and enjoyed it as much as I learned about it.
This is an absolute amazing demonstration of the true power of this module. Excellent!
cheers man! Still one of my fav modules after all these years :)
this was so informative and comprehensive! Thank you for taking the time to make such a helpful video. I haven't got a rings in my system (though I've been considering an elements), but I'll definitely return to this video if I ever pick one up
thanks for your comment man! :)
Seriously one of my favorite videos on Rings to date! 👏🏼👏🏼 Love it!
cheers dude! :D
Great video! Rings was also one of the first modules I bought, and this got me excited to revisit some things that I haven't explored for a long time. I forgot how good that FM mode sounds for bass! Nice work...
cheers man! Yea the FM mode is so cool. I love that there are so many hidden modes in this module! :)
Wow - got to the end. AMAZING! I really had no idea about this... still, I have to acknowledge that as a virtuoso performance! You have a new subscriber...!
cheers man! :) I'd really recommend Rings if you're looking for something fun and not subtractive. I'm enjoying your vids too!
Absolutely beautiful! So inspiring! Learning a lot from you man!
Thank you! Appreciated ☺️
Bravo ! Probably the bests sounds from Rings I've ever heard !
Thank you! ☺️
Awesome tutorial and demo, much appreciated. My Rings should be arriving tomorrow and I am really looking forward to setting it in motion!
thank you! I hope you're enjoying it :D
Holy moly this video is dope! You've earned yourself a sub
Much appreciated! :D
Dude, the best demo I have seen of rings. Didn’t know about the fm synth. Awesome, thank you.
cheers man! Must've been a nice surprise! :D
@@TheUnperson I saw DivKid using Rings as a lead bass in one of his videos, and knew it could do a lot more than the typical "Rings sound" that it's famous for. This video is a really nice demo of the reasons I bought it. I like the typical sound, but it's the weird side of the module that drew me to it. Cheers, and subbed.
@@richarquis cheers man! I'm always drawn to the weird side of everything lol
awesome video. your performances were great, that end jam blew me away
instant sub
cheers man!
Rings was the first module that got me into modular too. Especially because one of my all time favourite artists, R Beny, is a modular Olympic Champion of the Double Rings. Nice demonstration, with lovely musical examples. And the dusting of bitcrushing on rings drone, lovely, never thought of that, it's like a pixelated fairy dust on digital bells. It's a little like Taylor Deupree's very earliest releases, like the Stil LP, which I love. I also like those glitchy video edits. And you have a good voice presentation style but still mostly leave the sounds speak for themselves. Good channel. I forgot Rings can do FM, trying it now, high feedback driven hard into Ripples, sounds great.
You’re the best ! This video is amazing. I always use rings as a little bassline in my set up. I knew it could do more but never had the chance and the idea to put it that far. Thank you so much you’re my hero !
Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed the ideas in the vid ☺️

I love my rings module and this video made me love it even more! Thank you
Cheers man! ☺️
Man, thank you for this video inspiration! Great drones and end jam 🤘🏻You give me sonic inspiration here, even without having any modular stuff.
Cheers man!! ☺️
So good dude! The progression on the external in part is subblimmmee 👌🙏
cheers man! :D
Hey! Superb video. What sets this "demo" apart from many others is the music! Especially the external input part and the final jam, man, those are worthy pieces of music in my ears. Thanks!
Thank you very much! I try to make my videos as musical as possible so I'm glad you're enjoying it! :)
Beautiful. Definitely getting one soon.
I keep coming back to this video for inspiration. Not just for Rings but to remind myself about how powerful a well planned out small system can be. Cheers on a great video.
Awesome thank you! :D
Seriously - that sounded amazing and as a newbie looking to make my own little ambient modular set up, you made me realize I need rings as an integral part of my system no matter whatever else I have - clouds is on my list as well. Thank you for this - it was enlightening!
Cheers man! Yea rings will serve you well on your ambient adventures!
@@TheUnperson I am curious - you have the NiftyCase - and I am looking to jump in but don't want to spend so much money - the NiftyBundle seems like a deal - then maybe a cheap mixer/stereo out and maybe a clone version of Rings/Clouds and I'm done. I would really appreciate your thoughts on the case and putting together a nice small and somewhat inexpensive modular box - cheers Rick
Amazing! I was gobsmacked with how beautiful your music is in this vid
Cheers man! Much appreciated ☺️
Nicely done. I like your simple approach to modular. It is refreshing. Great book.
Cheers man! Very much appreciated! :)
Eye opening. Lots of ideas I never would have thought to try with Rings.
cheers man :)
I am enjoying your channel. Time to binge it honestly.
Tooooo goood! Love the last bit with the track you made! Subbed for sure
cheers man! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Super creative!! Great video! Many thanks for sharing.
cheers Larry!
I am building my first modular rig... and when I don't know what to do, or how to expand, I come to this channel for inspiration. Thanks for being an inspiration!
So cool man. Loving the sounds. Congrats on 1k subs as well. And yes my mouth was moving
Cheers man!! ☺️
Your singing over rings sounded much like radiohead. I love Radiohead. Nice
Cheers!! Best compliment ever ☺️
Great stuff! I'm learning a lot with your videos how to use my gear. Thanks!
Thank you man! :)
Great demo - you love this module and it clearly loves you back brother
cheers man! :D
This is a masterpiece of a video, well done! 👏
thank you - much appreciated! :)
Daaaang! Just kept getting better and better. This convinced me to add one to my new system.
haha thanks!! I'm sure you wont regret it :)
It's especially awesome to see these videos when the person really knows music. Thank you!
cheers man, much appreciated!
This is great, thanks! I got a bit tired of Rings because I started to hear it everywhere but this has given me more hope. I'm tempted to put it back in the rack now... possibly replacing Plonk
Thanks! I've kinda been eyeing up Plonk for a while now. How do you like it?
I'm in pain! Watching this at work and therefore 5 hours away from my modular. The itch to try all of this out is so heavy. How did I not know about the FM feature and hidden mode? Thank you Unperson, this opens up an entirely new world for me!
Haha I feel your pain! What a cool thing tho ~ to discover that rings is even better than you realised! :D
Absolutely beautiful sound bro, love it
cheers man!
Wow, OP-1 into modular is some kind of terrific. Fantastic video!
Agreed! Surprised not to see it more often tbh!
This deserves all the likes and views it has and more. I haven’t touched a 10th of what rings can do it seems.
The intro patch is one of the most blissful things I have ever heard. So much so that I got rings just so I could recreate it. I wish you made a patchbook! I can't figure out what is going into strum on rings, or what is going on with the fx aid settings. I aspire to be this good with rings one day. Simply amazing.
Thank you! Unfortunately I can’t remember what’s going on in this patch either lol. They keystep is playing a sequence so the gate out is going into strum. The fx aid is probably just doing reverb. The data bender is adding the octave twinkly bits!
I would pay for a patchbook of your videos
Amazing demo thanks.👍
Cheers!
Thanks for playing Rings the other ways. The drone with bit crush was awesome and so was the line in op1 bit!
Thank you! ☺️
Ok, I confess. I wanted to get Rings someday. But I ordered it immediately after I watched this video. That part, with external audio was amazing! And you used Data Bender in Drone part exeptionally! That is another module I was missing and didn't know about. :-) Thanks!
cheers man! I hope you're enjoying Rings! :D
@@TheUnperson Yes! It's amazing module. I made 3 song ideas in an instant! :-)
This demo does not get old.... Came here a few month after I have first seen it and it is still AWESOME! :-)
Thank you!! Much appreciated ☺️
Great video man. Rings is on my list now! Thanks… 👍
cheers man! I guess we've all got long lists lol
best tutorial on Rings I've seen yet. Your love for and mastery of the module is so obvious, but not at all intimidating - that's good teaching. Your music is also really beautiful. Got my attention again and again. Thanks for making this :)
edit: HAHAHA it just got better and better
haha cheers man! It is crazy much possibility there is in just one module :)
@@TheUnperson because of your video I used Rings a lot yesterday evening and came up with one of my favorite patches EVER!
The secret for me was to add a tiny bit of FM vibrato to Rings and then use a VCA to change the vibrato amount slowly over time from totally flat to fairly wobbly and back again. Holy cow, to my ears it brought everything to the next level as the patch had a new dimension to evolve through!
@@NICUofficial amazing i will have to give that a try! I haven't explored the possibilities of VCA's anywhere near enough yet
@@TheUnperson I know, same here! I feel like VCAs are this HUGE part of modular that I'm still trying to unlock in my head so I can actually use them quickly and intuitively. I'm certain they hold a major key to more subtle and musical patches if I just dive in and force myself to use them more. Let me know if you figure anything out with them
Actually amazing, thank you for this
cheers man! :D
You excel at making Rings not sound like Rings. Really shows the depth of this module and how you can break away from that instantly recognisable tone. Good work!
Cheers man! And i know what you mean. If i ever hear that Rings sound in a track i cringe a bit lol
@@TheUnperson I also got non-standard stuff out of Rings by using it as a percussion voice - audio-rate FM’ing it gives some very usable claps, for instance.
fantastic walkthrough!
thank you! :)
I liked my rings before. Now I love it. Thank you!
Thank you! ☺️
I never considered Rings because of all the *rings into clouds" ann annie sounding clones on YT. BUT THIS... wow. The external input section alone was amazing. I just ordered one thanks to you. The best video on any of the mutable instrument modules hands down. Well done!
cheers man! I know what you mean about the rings into clouds thing.... done to death lol
Thanks a lot. I really didn't know about the FM Synth. Awesome. :-)
Cheers man! I love discovering a secret about a module ☺️
Keep returning to your External audio in piece. Such cool, so feeling, especially the voice overlay, thanks for making it ! What sets your channel apart from others is the quality of music, for me it is as good as Pink Floyd, you give us all something to aspire to.. I think I got the notes, will try doing something similar (imitiation is the sincerest form of flattery ;).
As good as Pink Floyd? :D That's the biggest compliment I've ever recieved! Very much appreciated. How did your version go?
I could listen to you talk all day. You have the voice of an angel 👼
haha thank you! :D
The end was one of the best synth jams I’ve ever seen. Killer
Cheers man!! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
by far te best demo of this module, none of the youtubers succed selling it to me, you did!
Thanks!! I hope you’re enjoying it :)
I'm really enjoying your video. Rings has been out of my rack for a while so time to rectify that I think!
And you given me lots of new ideas to try out too
cheers man! Always glad to give some life to Rings :D
hahah was that a "take my breath away" moment haha nice! Ive never seen anyone drone with rings very cool, gonna try that shortly, love it
haha yea that just happened lol Hope you a fun drone sesh!
Pretty amazing and I appreciate it very much.
Thank you! :)
Absolute class as always.
Cheers man! ☺️
Super nice demo !
thank you! :)
11:51 A contender for the finest use of Rings ever. Chapeau!
Haha cheers man! 😃
I did not know about the secret mode.... wow, amazing!
for anyone that missed it, press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and the Start button to unlock it
haha! Is that not the cheat code for Sonic 1 on the Mega Drive? :D
awesome work mate.
Cheers!!
i’ve been thinking about picking up one of these for a while, but was never TOTALLY sold on it
i immediately bought one after the section at 12:14 💞
Brilliant vid!
Well done!
Wow. Brilliant. Thanks you. !
cheers man!
Just found your channel and to echo the other commenters got damn finally some modular MUSIC
Goosebumps when you started singing along quietly!
cheers man! I wasn't sure if I should keep that in or not so thanks!
Really cool vid ! I suscribe instantly !
Cheers man!
I agree with another comment below… it’s lovely to see a melodic approach to eurorack.
I know what you mean… there is a lot of bleeps in the modular world!
That audio in part was 🌸EPIC🌸
Cheers man!! ☺️
the modulated bit crushing is
Best demonstration of the potential of a module ever.
DAMN!!! I had no idea. This is a total argument that you don’t necessarily need Clouds. Had I not already own Rings, this video would have convinced me. That FM Bass mono patch blew my mind. 👍🏻
haha cheers man! The FM mode is really overlooked IMO :)
Amazing video!
Cheers! ☺️
At 12:14 i went :| Amazing demo! You just made me buy it again :D
haha sorry man! :D
Good stuff!
This video deserves a thumbs up. Didn't know that Rings had all these little secret hamster corners, need to spend more time with module.
Yea it's like 4 modules in one! :)
would love to hear your thought process on how you made the drums on the final jam. Great video, I've got a DIY rings kit on the way and can't wait to get it into my rack!
The drums are quite a simple beat from the OP1 and the data bender, being clocked at the same BPM, is bringing the stereo skips, glitches and pitch slides :)
WTF! did you go into god mode @11:51. That was Beautiful!
haha cheers man! I unleashed the Godly secrets of rings! :)
