Please, please, PLEASE be careful with this series because these people are legit nuts and have been known to stalk and harass people who talk about them and Scientology itself, especially negatively. I appreciate you shining a light on this bonkers cult, but you definitely don’t deserve to be harassed.

I think it's so much worse than the general public can even guess. Just look at anyone in Hollywood who have gone from totally great people to suddenly being an enemy of the state (I won't mention any names, but seriously, look into the major scandals in the last 20 years or so). It's because of their massive smear campaigns. These people put a new spin on "We will make sure you never work again.". Be careful anyone even discussing them, including here.

I was on a Scientology recruiter call list for a few years, but it finally stopped when I fibbed and told the lady that I was a devout Catholic and then started spouting off things from my childhood Catholic education to basically tell her she was doomed to burn in hell for eternity unless she would convert to Catholicism, repent, and devote her soul to the holy Trinity. I worked with the church running a project with them in the early 2000s. I was friendly with my client's and had mentioned that my daughter (five at the time) had just been diagnosed as dyslexia. He was quick to tell me that the condition could be cured by Scientology and sent me literature on it. He then started to heavily reccomend this boarding school there in LA. I told him there was no way I could afford it and he said it would be no problem because they had scholarships. Ultimately I ended up firmly telling him no. I would not send my daughter away and wasn't interested. This is right before people started coming forward in droves. I feel like me and my daughter dodged a bullet.

Just the other day I was walking down Hollywood blvd with my family and when we walked passed the Scientology building (not going to call it a church). As we were walking by, one of the workers pointed at me from inside and tried to call me in. I looked over to my cousin and said, “that place, those people and Scientology as a whole is just freaking weird.”
When I tell you guys that one of the workers that was standing outside heard me, he grabbed his coworkers and literally started following me down the blvd and wouldn’t leave me alone!! He said he thinks it’s funny that people love to whisper things about them but can never say it to there face. So, I looked at him and told him, “I’ll tell you right now you and all you’re friends are fucking weirdos so leave me alone” they eventually stopped following me. Glad I made it out of there safely because they’re bat shit crazy.

I laughed out loud when you said they’ve taken over Clearwater, because it’s so true. My family & I were in Clearwater over Xmas 2018. We stopped & had lunch at this little diner not far from Scientology headquarters. We started talking to the waitress about how strange we found the whole thing & she told us in “hushed tones” how the organization was taking over all the businesses in the area. Apparently, her boss didn’t want her talking about them at all. She basically told us she was really creeped out by the whole thing. Members are taken by organization buses everywhere. They all live on the property…not owning anything not even a car. Basically, members don’t associate with anyone not associated with the organization. Major cult vibes that really made me feel uncomfortable. I couldn’t wait to leave that area.

I've watched you for so long and I've never commented. I don't really comment on any videos at all but I wanted to thank you for doing this series. As a kid in middle/high school I had a best friend who was in Scientology. I went with her to audits, and the shows at the Fort Harrison. Everywhere I could go. I have never been a religious person myself but I loved learning about religions and I loved thinking about why they developed the way they did. The further we got into things the more clear the bad became to me and the more speculative I was in regards to the whole thing. My best friend's father tried to encourage her to go into the Sea Org... and she was so talented, so bright... I did everything I could to talk her out of it. I ended up labeled an SP... and I haven't seen her in over a decade. I still think about her. I wonder where she is... I wonder if she went into it... I hope she didn't. Thank you for talking about this and shedding light in your meticulously detailed way.

Faith is NOT about making you into a subjugated form to give your all to ‘leaders’.
Beware of ANYTHING that cannot present their point clearly w/o making you subjugate your own senses. Which IS the definition of ‘cult’. I remember back when I was younger and looking for a job. I found an ad in Craigslist or something regarding an office aide position in a “church.” I applied and when I went in for an interview it turned out to be a church of Scientology. So they interviewed me and asked if I knew about the church and I really didn’t know much back then. Part of the interview process was to watch a 2 hour video on the founder, LRH. In this video they legit made him seem like a God and I remember sitting in that room thinking, “Wtf did I sign up for?” They gave me a bunch of pamphlets and then took me to another room but as I was walking to this other room I saw women walking past me in a robotic state..they never looked at me and they never smiled, they looked like zombies walking all slow with long white dresses or robes or whatever. I remember thinking they looked like dead. So they took me to this room and gave me a bunch of pamphlets and flyers and had me write names and addresses of people, I guess they were going to be mailing out these things to them. They didn’t pay me or anything and obviously I stayed there doing it because I wanted the job. When I finished with all the stack of flyers, they brought me more to do!!!! I had already been there for about four hours and I was like fuck this, I let them know that I had to leave and so I left. I left and just was so thankful to get out of there because I felt like I wasn’t going to be able to leave that place, felt like they were going to keep me there.

While there I bought some sort of book they said I 'needed ' to read. I think it was Dianetics. I was raised Christian and had no intention of reading it but I wanted that stupid job bad. Before I paid for it they ask for my name, phone, and address. I gave my real phone number but I had such a creepy vibe in that place I gave a fake address! The next day I started getting phone calls from someone who was apparently "assigned" to me the day I bought the book! It was so damn weird and creepy. So many intrusive questions, daily phone calls- a few days of that nonsense and I told the lady I wanted the job with that it's not a good fit for me🤗 those people are under total mind control it's so freaking weird

When young I grew up seeing the people in uniforms very similar to a military uniform walking the streets of Clearwater. At 16 years old I met a girl through my friend group who had actually run away from the church so at that point I got to learn a lot about the inner workings of the church and how they tear families apart as a control tactic and it’s really scary. They are definitely not a normal “religion“. They are a cult they do whatever they want to their members end it is my personal opinion they need to be stopped.

Benzodiazepine withdrawal is THE WORST. HANDS DOWN. Read “I’m Dancing As Fast As I Can.” If you are ever in a detoxification in-patient rehab center, look around and see how many addicts or alcoholics are there for detox and a rehab 28 day program. You’re going to find heroin, crack, meth, etc. but very very few benzo addicts. Therefore, you’re not going to find very many educated staff people who can deal with benzodiazepine withdrawal, and understand the horrors that you go through to kick the horrible benzo addiction. So, all the nights that you’re going to spend with insomnia are not going to be understood by the staff and they’re not going to be receptive to your needs. Trust me on this one. Years ago and out of curiosity I did the "free stress test" Scientology offers and it was interesting. My best friend who was dying of cancer took it with me. The girls giving the test were shocked at how low stress we read, especially with the cancer we were dealing with. I remember my friend and I looking at each other and breaking into laughter. We told them we let God handle the stress and we just took one day at a time, celebrating each moment together. I hope that was the beginning of at least one of the girls breaking free from that madness.

Funny story. About 6ish years ago , my sister was in grad school and desperate for a job. Living in the city without a car she wanted somewhere she had walking distance commute. She found a local dentist office looking for a receptionist. Now I’ve always been a huge cult fan and at the time , going clear on hbo was fresh on my mind. Interview and all went well, no red flags (although who thinks they may be interviewing with Scientologists) it wasn’t until her first day when she received her hand book that there was a section on suppressive persons. Than the practice manager, also the dentists husband-had an office full of Hubbard books. We spent several hours reading Reddit threads stating that dentists and Chiropractors are sought out often by Scientologists. At this point she was like I need to just finish the next week out so I can get my paycheck. By the end of the second week, they had told her she needed to commit to continuing education courses in Clearwater, Florida at the church of Scientology .
She never Went back and it freaked her out for months.

This was incredibly well organised, researched and presented. I had no doubt it would be but I was interested to see how you would do it as its so huge, you didn't let us down!! I'm enthralled with this topic anyway and with you presenting it just made it better. Thanks for all your hard work Stephanie, and I'm super excited for the rest.

Well researched? I'm sorry, looking up Wiki articles is NOT "well researched."

@@flutterbugs Oh, you're right. She also uses Tony Ortega as a source. Someone who advocated FOR sex traffickers. Somehow that doesn't fill me with confidence.

Girl I am loving this. It’s unbelievable. I have followed the story of L R Hubbard since my twenties (I’m 63 now), because my dad was a preacher (Christian) and he was really studying his life. And then I caught up again some on the Lea and Mike series. I was glued to it. You are covering it deep. Please bring us more!!!

I am on Episode 10, Season 2 of Leah Remini Scientology and The Aftermath, so this is perfect timing. I don't understand why there aren't any lawyers or law makers who can't/won't go after this sick cult based on all of the peoples accounts of what happened. Especially, the tax exempt status or the sexual abuse claims. 😪

I haven't even watched the video yet but Scientology gets me so fired up! The way they attack ppl, lie and do all they can to destroy the lives of those who don't agree with their beliefs. It's absolutely infuriating and they are nuts.
I've hated Scientology ever since Tom Cruise 🤮 publicly shamed Brooke Shields for taking meds for post partum depression. Cannot stand that tiny little man 😤
