    I just got my new set of 4 cryotone tubes. I was immediately surprised at how much cooler these tubes were than the original Decware ones. In SW Florida we will take all the cool we can get!

    Wathen Audiophile has spent all Spring and the first part of Summer developing a Cryo Process specifically for the SE84UFO25 amplifier. They have the tubes for it on their web site. They also have the amplifier so the development is highly tested. Speaks volumes for the amplifier to justify so much R&D.

    Steve, would you please repeat this process after say 1000 hours on these same tubes to see if the cryo effect is durable. After all, if extreme cold causes an “alignment” of the molecules and the improved measurements, why would heat from use not also have the opposite effect and lead back to a randomness of those same molecules and therefore back to where you started? I personally hope the effect is durable, but I have some doubts, as the natural order, supposedly , is to gravitate toward chaos. Thanks for the video and all you do for the hobby.

    • @decwareproducts
      @decwareproducts  2 года назад

      "extreme cold" ... the temp of the tube when operating is no where near "extreme heat" so the alignment is not changed.

    8:26 is all people really need to watch to get the summary of this. At the end of the day, people choose using tubes amps over SS for the deliberate purpose of hearing pleasing sounding harmonic distortions in the sound; if lower distortion as a whole was more uniformly pleasing to listen to, then we would all be on cheap low-distortion clean measuring solid state gear. As Steve mentioned at 8:26, its a preference thing as some people prefer a "tubier, richer" sound (myself included), so ultimately its going to come down to what you prefer, but using the word "better" (as in, more uniformly pleasing to listen to) and not just "lower distortion" in the tile is sort of misleading. The oversimplification of lower distortion = better sound is sort of the antithesis of using tubes over solid state in the first place.

      - I have to disagree , I recently tried a Decware SE84UFO tube Amplifier and it is much closer to what real instruments sound like than any of the Solid State amplifiers I have owned in the past 30 years -- no tubby sound here , I love it - Just Amazing Clean Sound!!!!!!

      @@deanhalleck5738 Did you even read my comment? I was talking about cryo treated tubes and whether better measuring tubes really lead to "better" sound than tubes with more (pleasing) distortion. The reference to SS was a comment about the reasons why people choose to use tubes (like myself) over solid state despite them measuring worse. My complaint was with the title of the video saying that better measuring tubes are "better" when its subjective

    I've just purchased a quad set of EL34's from Cryotone. That said I'm still a sceptic. I'm curious about the claim that these cryo-treated tubes "run cooler". That's a head scratcher to me, I'd love to learn how that's possible. Also, tubes are comprised of multiple materials that expand and contract at different rates. This seems to suggest that cryo-treating these tubes could causes cracks, fissures, or gaps where two or more materials meet, causing deleterious effects on the sound and longevity of the tube.

    • @decwareproducts
      @decwareproducts  Год назад +1

      Who made that claim? Your expand/contract argument should also apply the same when the tube is heated. The longevity of the tube is actually increased with this process as is the sound quality. There are many serious audiophiles out there who have spent years rolling NOS tubes that are now using Cryotone and recommend these tubes based on their results. You might consider doing some research and or call Don from Wathen Audiophile who produces the Cryotone tubes. He would be happy to explain why it works.

    • @keastcw

      @@decwareproducts The claim that Wathen tubes run cooler is on the Wathen website, under "The benefits of Wahten CryoTone" along with:
      Expanded dynamic rang / Smoother and more refined high frequency range / Increased bass depth, definition and articulation / Deeper and more focused three dimensional soundstage / Lowered dynamic noise floor / Reduced micro phonics / Smoother and more detailed midrange and vocals.
      I'm not disputing any of these claims, and I spoke with Don yesterday before purchasing a quad set from him, but didn't think to ask any of these questions. I enjoyed talking to him, we have the same old 5 watt Swart guitar amp. Before upgrading the tubes in my UFO25 (on order) to Wathen, I just thought I'd give them a try in my current amp; a Willsenton R8, which red plated a couple days ago in a amazing display that freaked the cat out.
      I'm an architect and we often design while considering different materials that expand and contract at different rates. I'm assuming tubes are no different. I'm guessing the process of cryogenically treating tubes is gradual so as to moderate the effects of expansion and contraction, and they're tested after being treated to throw out any bad apples. I guess my thinking is why not treat these materials before assembling the tube, to eliminate the chance of any bonds or connections inside the tube from cracking or breaking?

      @@decwareproducts Christmas came early, my quad set of CryoTone EL34’s came Saturday morning. I spent about 12 hours listening to them and I’m very pleased. The first thing I noticed were more vivid textures. Micro details are more nuanced. Details deep in the mix have more presence, which makes for a more involving and immersive listening experience. I went into my dealers shop and listened to a pair of Devore O/96’s juiced by a pair of Quicksilver mono locks. I have to say my Tekton Perfect SET 2-10’s with my Willsenton R8 + CryoTone’s provide a lot of bang for the buck. The CryoTones are staying in my system and I can’t wait to hear them in my UFO25 when it arrives next year (I hope).

      We have hired two excellent, excellent techs since Spring. Things are going well, but the machine has to spin up before there is boost. Wait till winter and things should be fully dialed in and the wait times will start dropping.
