The box of rock was designed with a soul purpose. It’s meant to be used by jtm45 owners to run their plexi cleaner and not have to push them so hard. The pedals voice was built to create a pushed jtm when used on a clean based jtm to emulate the sound. I guess any other amp set up it will sound differently
That would be a terrible business decision by ZVEX. The second sentence of the manual states: “You may use the Box of Rock™ effectively with many differ- ent amplifiers.” But I can’t compare cause I’ve only used the 59 sound in front of a clean Bassman RI. Either way, it rocks!
@@kere92I’ve the box of rock too in this format. I’m only telling you what Zachary from Zvex designed it for. The owner had a jtm45 and wanted to emulate his pushed sound. Being quite specific so a sound designed to emulate his pushed through a jtm valve amp will sound differently through my Blackstar amped.
It’s one of my favorite pedals ever, I have two of them in case one dies. You can get a pretty convincing Marshall tone out of a Fender Deluxe with one.
"Amp-like" gets thrown around a lot in the pedal world. However, the 59 sound and the BOR TRULY are amp-like. They feel great under the fingers and respond like a blasted amplifier.
Exactly! Recorded a lot of stuff sounds fantastic. A Helix sounds fantastic through the house PA or on a recording. But that finger feel is where it's at. You might be the only one that hears it. But it'll make you a better player.
I'm not watching many gear videos anymore, and I feel like I have all the dirt or amp in a box pedals I'm ever going to need. I just wanted to compliment you on your incredibly tasteful playing and tone, independently from what pedals you're using. This is what electric guitar is supposed to sound like. Powerful, restrained, warm. Great player.
I don't think that tube sag is a particularly difficult quality to capture; there's a lot of builders that have done work in that area.Hudson Electronics, Crazy Tube Circuits, Benson, Small Sounds/ Big Sounds, Ramble FX, ,- I could go on. Zvex were one the few who started the pedal market boom, -with Fulltone, EQD , and a few others; having been through hundreds of pedals the last few decades, I've recently gotten back to some of these early efforts. It's hard to beat the original SHO, (Fat)Fuzz Factory, or LoFi Junky.
Perfect presentation of the zvex top quality overdrive pedals Sasha! 👌 I've been using the zvex 59 overdrive for a long time now and hereby must confirm that this is one of or perhaps the best amp in a box "Bassman type" overdrive pedals. I also use the Greek built VS Audio Blackbird deluxe overdrive/tremolo which echoes the vintage Fender brown panel 61 and blackpanel 63 amps and this combination to use separately and/or together with the zvex 59 is outstanding. I alternately use a Supro 1690T Coronado and a Supro S6420 Thunderbolt and both of the aforementioned drive pedals sound great through these amps.
I will get the 59 Sound, but to me, like with so many pedals, the difference between the two, is very slight. My guess is, in a blindfold test of 100 trials, most people would guess correctly around 50 times. 👍 👍 👍 🙂
Sasha, I LOVE your playing, I LOVE the Box of Rock, but that Telecaster keeps me awake at night, because I can’t stop drooling over it. Can you tell me what it is? What company or luthier built this? Please, I need to know. I promise I won’t copy it, because I just spent a shitload of money on a completely different guitar and I already have four Telecasters. But I still need to know. I can’t sleep. It’s 6:28 in the morning FFS! 😵💫😵💫😵💫 By the way, what you said about the switches being too close together…, you’re absolutely right. It’s a nightmare! I bought two old Xotic RC Boosters instead of one newer version because of the exact same reason, plus a number of other reasons actually, but still… Pedal companies should think about the ergonomics more than they do. I had a J Rockett Tim Pierce Overdrive for a couple of months. Killer sounding pedal! I kept changing the settings because the controls were too close to the switches. I don’t even have big feet. In fact, I only have one foot, which makes it even harder (but I won’t bother you with that story 😂).
Thanks, Mario! That's a Panucci! He's one of the best luthiers for vintage style guitars out there. I hope you got to sleep in a bit today and didn't spend too much money on Reverb.
@Sasha Ivantic - You absolutely picked the perfect guitar from your arsenal for this demo. They both have a very organic sound to them, seem very dynamic as well. Not sure where you find the time to do these video while touring too, but I sure do appreciate, and enjoy it. Is this backing track on Patreon too? I'd love to jam along to it. Blessings to you and yours 🙏🏼❤🙏🏼
I THINK I like the sound of both, but you really need to kill the HEAVY reverb!!!! It totally buries what the real sound of the pedals are doing. Kill the reverb completely and lets hear it again

That's amazing, I didn't know that!

Yep, definitely not dedicated or purpose built for Plexi amps….fake news

@@SashaIvantic That finger feel does make you a better player. You pick up the guitar and play more which is the most critical part.

Man that means a lot me. Thank you!!
I think Electronic Audio Experiments have the tube sag feel down the best. Great video Sasha
Did you try Origin Revival Drive? Big box version is the closest thing to a tube amp I ever played in pedal form.

Nice vidéo 👍, i’ve got both and really enjoy them.
Both are great great pedals but I have to agree with you on the’59

That’s a Panucci 59!

@@SashaIvantic : Aaaaaah, that makes sense!!! Thanks!
A bit dark for my taste, but good drive sounds. ❤
Buddy Blues did videos on these as well. His sounds should be a little bit brighter.
Cool video Sash!! A lot of BOR users tell me it is their “always on” pedal
I prefer the 59 sound! Fender is more my tone guitar! 🤩
🍻
