I love her for saying Poppy with regards to the tone of the maple. One of my dead homies used to say that when trying out strats.. " it's got a pretty good pop to it"

Great video as always! Thanks for featuring these. I bought an olive green one when the Mustang was also part of the Offset Series in 2016 & it’s become one of my favorite guitars. I’ve recorded a lot of music with it, and taken it out on the road. I play it through a Rat & a little Boss reverb and it’s instant MbV Loveless sounds. I’m an old shoegazer from the 90s and the Mustang takes me right back. I keep mine in open D tuning and it works great for other altered tunings. Love it. Just put a Hüsker Du sticker on mine too. Great video again folks, and awesome playing from both of you as always! Love the show❤️❤️❤️

LOVE my stangs. Got a Kurt Cobain spec'd daphne blue that i built with a warmoth body and a MIJ neck and I have a Surf Green Squier Mustang that I tricked out, only stock piece is the body. I also have a Squier classic vibe jag that I converted to Cobain specs with the Signature kurt neck I scored on Ebay. Great vid guys!

Shadow and Sonic... Love it! Another great review. I've got a duo sonic hs in sienna sunburst with maple, put an emerald lace sensor in the neck. Sounds great, fun to play, looks cool, sometimes I miss having a vibrato, but that's what my jazzmaster's for! I play a little bit differently when I'm not always reaching for the wiggle stick, when bending a note up instead of pushing it down is my only modulation option, so that's valuable. Thanks for doing these guitars justice!

I've had a Player Mustang just like the sonic blue one. It quickly became my favorite guitar. I did switch the pickups over to some Lace Sensors but the stock pickups weren't bad, just not noiseless.

The duo Sonic’s bridge pickup is dope, but the Mustang sounds better overall. But Strat tailpieces make them non-starters unfortunately.
Would love to get Tia’s take on the Japan-only Junior Jazzmaster someday. Thanks for another great video!

I had a Duo Sonic as like my second guitar after a vintage modified jaguar. I really liked the way it sounded but it was just missing a little something. The mustang sounded better clean to me though.
Fun fact, the mustang is technically an offset, while the duo sonic is not. The top and belly carve placement is the different between the two.

@@SoggyBacco At this point, the only thing that separates a Mustang and a Duo-Sonic is that the Duo-Sonic either isn't offset or has the curve a little higher on the body.

Great review! I agree about the mint pickguard on the Mustang, among other comments. Either of these makes a great mod platform, too. The price range is perfect for some upgrades. On my player Mustang, I upgraded the tuners to the Fender locking tuners and put some Graphtech saddles on the bridge. On my copy, the stock saddle for the low E couldn't be adjusted enough to get the intonation right. The Graphtechs gave me a little more range. I'm working on some custom pickguards to audition different pickup combinations.

  • @jasonwelch6306

I really liked both. I'm with Jason though, I think I would spend a little extra for a used American Performer Mustang to get some sweet wiggle stick action since I already have a hardtail Mustang.

I bought the Duo Sonic in orange with a maple fretboard. I pulled the PU' and had a Tele put at the bridge and '66 single coil 'real' Rickenbacker PU at the neck. I get both of Pete Townsend's early Who sounds from one guitar and it is killer!!

Although I’m not usually one to hedge(hog), I liked the chime and aesthetic of the Mustang and the versatility of the Duo-sonic. However, given the fact that I’m 6 feet tall, I would never buy either(for me, that 24” scale length would be Puisheen it).

Is it bad that I see a Mustang with a 3-way switch and I'm like "ew, no!"? I'm sorry, phase switching without push-pulls is a beautiful thing. Also, as has been mentioned, why no vibrato? This seems like Fender's way to sell a cheaper-to-make Strat that indie people will vibe to. I guess different strokes for different folks, just kind of seems like a niche market who would want these, which is an odd choice for Fender... which I oddly respect.

@@WorkingClassMusic I loved the video and the work you do. I think honestly it's easier for Fender to label all these guitars Mustangs from a marketing standpoint. Most people have no idea what Musicmasters, Duo Sonic or Broncos are so it's just easier to market them all as Mustangs. I have owned them all and like them all. I am glad that Fender keeps putting out new models though the Squier CV Mustang and Vintera Mustangs are the best vintage style Mustangs out.

cut back to 2017, nobody wanted these, duo sonics were going for 350 used at guitar center...now fender tacked on an extra $300 with no improvement of quality whatsoever, they literally just put it in the player line so that they can charge more...do y'all selves a favor and just get a player strat, you just need to add a little more and you get a guitar with a 2 point tremolo. dont get me wrong, these are excellent and great guitars but not for $800
