It’s a fairly straightforward process when replacing a single pole electrical wall switch, however you are dealing with high voltage electricity. If you do not feel confident in your abilities and understanding of the process do not attempt as it can result in death or serious injury to self, others or property.
Tools needed include a flathead and Phillips screwdrivers.
WAtched the Home Depot video; yours was better. Thank you.
Made it easy for a novice like me.
Dude. All that and u dont show it dim up n down?
Waiting for the same thing.
Me too
Me too
You didn't test the dimming part of it?
Pretty good video, just one important tip you should always disconnect the ground last and reconnect it first research online why that’s important
This video definitely gave me the confidence that I can do it myself! Thank you!!
Thanks! I’ll be referring back to this when I move out in a few weeks.
Way to explain the right way to do it !!! Thanks for your great,Simple video and explanation!
Thanks for this! Do you need a certain light bulb for dimmer switch?
Very clear. Thank you for the clear steps.
Thanks so much. Great video. Perfect for my situation.
Thanks, You're welcome.
good but where is the dimming action?
Great demonstration and advice. Thank you.
Thank You So Much For This Great Video! I was able to learn a few things from this video. You Explained Everything Very Well...AWESOME INSTRUCTOR!
Read video helped me out a lot. Thanks for posting
Curious why you didn't show the dimming function of the switch when, after all, you have the word "DIMMER" in your video title?
i have five lights with one switch can i replace with dimmer switch
Very helpful! It would be a bit easier to see though if there was more light shined directly on what was happening
I agree. Having a spotlight shining almost behind the person is not good. The shadows of his hands that are cast on the wall interfere with me watching what I'm supposed to be watching. Very distracting
Thx for the help! I wasn't sure if I needed to connect all of the wires in the junction box or just the black & white to the red & black. Thx for your help. It works fantastically!😉
Thank you. My light sometimes worked so knew when the fuse was 'off' but didn't know if I had to test it like most instructors said. I was afraid to start!
Good work
In my wall, I have a single poleand i just have hot (black), neutral (white) and ground (unsheathed). But my dimmer has load (red), line (black), neutral (white) and ground (green). I can't connect 4 wires to 3 wires, what one is redundant? The neutral?
What if the house doesn’t have a ground ?
What if i only have the basic switch with the white and black wiring and how to install a dimmer?
Precise and simlpe presentation
My husband was a great electrician I learned a few things from him. He likes to do these with the power on. Always scared me!
Hummm...
BRAVE MAN !!! AS LONG AS NO MISTAKES GET MADE ! BUT, I'D RATHER TRIP THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO PRESERVE MY LIFE AND MY PROPERTY !!!
Yeah. "Great Electrician" and "liked to work with the power on are "non sequitors". Sorry.
Back in my old country I did change our switches with the electricity on. 220 v. All you have to do is not touching the wires and the screwdriver be insulated. Easy. I was a teenager.
@@mydigitallife8311 W R O N G!
Do u have to buy a certain light fixture or bulb for the dimmer or just a switch will work on a existing fixture?
You need a lightbulb that will "dim" it will be marked. the switch and the lightbulb work together
I appreciate your video, good work!!!
You keep talking black and white, but my wires are different colors on both incoming. It would be more clear if you used line and load. Common is ?
Can I use a “dimmer switch for LED/compact fluorescent/incandescent” on just regular bulbs? I’m thinking the one I just purchased from Amazon isn’t going to work
I believe I saw on the box when I bought some bulbs, they do label it's not recommended or not used for dimmer. But always check the box. Please let me know if you saw that on a box you bought. Happy Holidays!
It actually worked great, just had to mess around with the wiring and figure it out
You didn't demonstrate the dimmer. Did it work? What if it didn't?
Great video. Made my job very easy.
Oh now I found a video after I already installed mine 😂
Good job. Very clear
Thank you
So there are no cords you need to change to a dimmer? Like you don't need to run any new wires?
Correct. No new wires.
For future it’s never connect hot wires with neutral bc saying the black wire is too vague and Mia leading
very informative thanks
Perfect thank you
when I turned on my fuse I had a spark jump.............redid it then had smoke.....?
You didn't dimmed the lights
Do you need electrical tape?
Thanks
GREAT VIDEO !!! THANKYOU !!!
I saw you have 2 black wires and ground(black to black)(black to red) and grounds together ,but I have black white and ground,do I connect red to the white?
Thats what I'm trying to figure out myself
@@jonathanmarquez611 did you ever get it figured out? I have the same issue...
I have the same question,
Some dimmers require a neutral (white wire) while others do not. Red wire (without a label attached) goes to the load (light fixture)
Why do you have 2 black wires? Where’s your neutral?
Yeah on mine the red and green wire are cut and the cables are just hanging loose. 😮
You didn't show us if it really dimmed or not. I put one in and the dimmer wouldn't work, it drove me crazy. So I exchanged it for another one thinking it was faulty out of the package. Have yet to put it in, this was months ago.
Make sure the light bulb is dimmable
thank u made it simple for me
Berry good thank you. Liked and subbed
What is the name of the first switch ?
Helpful 🙌🏽
need to angle your light . i m getting dizzzy . I see like 6 or 7 wires with the shadow
Hard to understand when all you see are white wires.
Never undo the ground first
y
@@robodobro because rule of thumb ground last to break first to make every good electrician knows that Be safe always voltage kills
Why Didn't you test the dimmer so we can see it works? smh. failed~!
Aziz, LIGHT!
I believe that you should watch this video :
ruclips.net/video/naM_rECt078/видео.html
1. He talks about the wires in pairs not simply: remember which wire goes where and match the labels on old and new switch.
2. He removed the ground wire last. He didn't make a point of it, but its the safety precaution. Its like me fiddling inside my computer case and then when I finish I put a grounding strap on! In this case the vulnerable thing is your life rather than your computer hardware. Its irrelevant that the power is off, the ground should be last and first thing to attach.
Easy instruction..i know i can do this. But You didn't show us the dimming ability of the switch. That's what I was waiting to see.
5/5
You didn't test the dimmer, though. 😏
Good video but you didn't dim the light.
almost 10 minutes and it did not show the dimmer effect! nor if it worked..
You didn’t even use the dimmer to see if it worked
Show how it dims, Andrew. Otherwise, good video.
that's single pole single throw.
Andrea mi amor
Not a Phillips
You didn't even dim the light lol
I know that's what I was thinking, probably didn't work at the end.
Totally, plus he missed an opportunity to have the vid fade to black as he dimmed the switch. ;)
You need better lighting and camera position.
I’m so sorry to all the normal people that think they learned something from this video. If you came here to learn, LEAVE WHILE YOU STILL CAN. If you came here to laugh, welcome… have a seat.
Too slow
Thanks
