Elizabeth, My wife used an audio pen that would record and match her notes to the audio when she was in college. She took her notes on special paper that had a pattern on it that allowed the pen to synchronize the audio to her notes when she played it back. She would just run the pen over that section and it would play the audio. She would transcribe the critical part professor's lecture on her computer. This allowed her to rewind and replay when she had trouble understanding. I did a quick search and I see they now make "Pen Scanners" that will allow to to scan over text and it will convert it to editable text for import into other applications. You take the pen and use it like a highlighter. Those sections are translated into text for import. I don't have any experience with them, that is what I read in their descriptions. You can also take pictures of the page with your Smartphone and then there are applications that will convert the image to text. I hope that will help you.
The most important part of the rules you follow that I'm sympatico with is the why For compiling written or photo or whatever entities at that time which provoke a tropism I'm not fully aware why but I'm sure I will find out when I find the time , if I haven't noted the why somewhere I promised myself that upon finding out I didn't affix my why I would get a tazr and put to my temple then let a low voltage of a charge felt from the left cerebral cortex out the right ensuring both parts of my brain are responsible... it's because the why is that important in developing an unrealized whole even if a whole is no longer an important pursuit I still want to know why it's been there. Very important referencing the why. thank you
What I always do is take notes the day after I did read it. With 2 reasons: 1 it filters what you think is most important and makes you think about why you missed the other parts. 2 it is a kind of "test" to check out what you actually did get and what not. (I read philosophy a lot and I found this useful)
love how you describe that the context of your mind, i.e. what you've been reading, thinking about or feeling lately, contributes to whether you find something interesting or not...I love this process and seeing where my mind takes me
Everything you are teaching about memory and learning is a huge help for me ... I am looking to attend grad school next year towards a phd ... i feel nervous because it's been a few years since i last did any kind of academics. Thanks for posting your helpful vids =)
I'm excited waiting for that video of you talking about how you capture from podcast, RUclips, audiovisuals and why not, social media, thanks a lot for sharing!
Just discovered Elizabeth today and such relevant content, for me. So many puzzles you have thought through are similar to mine and my conclusions, and I always feel inclined to share my insights somewhere but I haven't figured out how, yet. I feel like an older, more neurotic more confused version of a similar personality: Made up of a lot of different "people" with different and sometimes seemingly contradictory, but just as vivid, valid and salient, motivations. And I'm equal parts inspired and intimidated. 😆❣
On audiobooks, I listen mostly in the car so note taking has been an issue. Two workarounds I’ve used: 1. Use dictation to make a bookmarked note in Audible. 2. Set up a routine in Shortcuts on iOS to utilise Siri to add a dictated note to Notes. “Hey Siri, add book note …” I find the act or articulating a thought out loud both challenging and rewarding. It’s one step better than bottling it up in my head and forgetting.
This has really helped me for college. I watched this a few months ago, and it's helped me ever since then. Just thought I'd leave this comment here after stumbling into your channel again (earlier)
It's great to hear someone else say that they treat physical books like 'gold' and find note taking a struggle. I've just gotten into note taking, it was such a pain for the first book I read that I gave up. Putting down the book, opening the laptop, going back and forth to copy quotes was harder than I thought. But, I did add the Notion Clipper extension and just figured out how to export notes from Google Play Books! GREAT things I pulled from this video.
Great work, I’m just getting into reading because I always had a bad association with it but watching your passion about it brought me to love reading now and taking notes. I also love how you give alternatives for us who are not ready to spend money on apps. Thank you so much for the great content!
I love to see behind the scenes on how you are taking notes on physical book, kindle & online articles…. This is good video not to be missed, I haven’t even finished the video I found myself writing this comments
I really enjoy your videos. I find that the combination of your accent [Irish at a guess] and your normal speaking speed [if I could think as fast as you speak I'd be a genius] forces me to stop multitasking and pay total attention to your posts. That's a definite positive since you have so much good information to impart. Bravo for your accomplishments !
In the mean time I struggle to read/finish books and strongly prefer saving articles and reading them later. I save the article, print it, then organize it (physical copy). Then whenever I have the need to look at a category/topic I find the physical copy and read it. Usually I write my own summary and save that in a binder. What I like most about my method is that often I find myself looking at the same subject often but word it differently when I search so I get very different results.

Question: I agree that every note should have a "why" or we won't know why we saved it...down the line. BUT, I do not hear where you capture that "why" so that you will know when you next look at it where it is. Also, I did not hear how you organize the notes in a way that it is easy for you to find them when they would be of use. I realize I am late to this video and while hopeful you will still answer my questions, if anyone else knows the answers, please chime in. This is a huge problem for me. Thanks

Thanks for sharing this. You speak so fast! I recommend English language leaners to listen to you a lot. I bet one can learn English by listening to you for a month. Hollywood movies are full of F. words!), wile listening to you for a couple of minutes one can learn dozens of important words.

8:30 this is so important! Yes! Buying the audiobook should come with the PDF or eBook version of it. When I buy an Audiobook it's through Kobo, so it's already connected to an account. This would be such an amazing service.
Hi Liz, great video! I have two questions: 1. Don't you accumulate a lot of stuff on your Links page in Notion? How often do you review and process it? 2. How do you take notes from a youtube video? Thanks! Luis, from Spain
Heres my method. I Listen to the audiobook with a pen and pad. I jot down whatever resonates with me. I go to the ebook and find what I've written reread it, highlight and add a note. This method ensures I go through the material twice, at least the stuff that resonates with me.
Everyone has their own unique way of doing things. It's neat that you use Notion much like how others use Pinterest. :) Most of the time, I don't feel a need to take notes, or at least not that extensively. But I have one heavy book waiting for me to get to it that I might need some of these tips for later. Thanks!
Only best way doing something repeatedly with full attention..1.visual memory lasts long...we cannot visualize new things..bcoz it's new..so have to do repeatedly..you talk beautiful..😎

Hi Liz, great video!
I have two questions:
1. Don't you accumulate a lot of stuff on your Links page in Notion? How often do you review and process it?
2. How do you take notes from a youtube video?
Thanks!

Gracias luis

Good stuff all over the video. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Wow, this is such a good video!
Thank you Elizabeth
Speaking so fast, so smart, so young already read so many Books ,just cool!
Most of the time, I don't feel a need to take notes, or at least not that extensively.
