As someone from Europe that is very unlikely to have a chance to go there in person, I'm very thankful that the Alveus crew can give us a little glimpse of it virtually. Zoos like the San Diego Zoo, that are AZA accredited and do insane amounts of conservation work, are doing extremely important work that a lot of times is underappreciated! Thank you!

If you want a guaranteed viewing of an active wombat, go to the Los Angeles Zoo. Their wombats are in their own building with an inverted daylight cycle. Since it's dark and quiet, the wombats are always walking around and digging.

i knew the SD zoo at first glance! i grew up in San Diego and went there so often as a kid, then worked there for a year as an adult. i left the state in 2019 and never knew just how impressive the zoo was until i left home, its so beautiful and tries its hardest to create natural enclosures for all the animals with native flora. the education and conservation efforts they do are amazing as well! going there so often as a kid is part of the reason i got my bachelor's in wildlife conservation. the safari park further north in Escondido is even more impressive! i highly recommend people go and see both if they ever find themselves in the southwestern US, worth every moment and the weather is usually amazing.

Zoos that A)are performative and or B)don't treat their animals well - I would agree.
Zoos that act as sanctuaries for animals that otherwise wouldn't make it in the wild, and or rehabilitating for re-release are cool by me.
