I know I have little right to be so emotional about Alveus but it's just incredible what they are doing. I feel like due to the difficulty of the care for reptiles, they often go a bit under cared for, but not here--seeing how everyone worked so hard for this enclosure makes my heart full. Quality care for every species they have.
u have every right to feel emotional! being invested in an important cause is completely normal. i think ppl are so scared of being parasocial nowadays that we worry that being invested to any degree is too much, but i think its fine :) i also get emotional with stuff like this at alveus, but its not because i feel like i personally know maya or anything weird like that, its because i adore animals and care a lot abt conservation, so naturally i get excited/emotional abt these types of updates. if ppl didnt get invested to any degree, then alveus's goal to spread awareness and love of all these different types of animals wouldn't be achieved.
@@TissueCat_ Thank you for your response! I am def hyper aware of coming across as 'omg i'm so proud of you' but it's just amazing seeing what they have accomplished, very grateful for this community and this opportunity to witness an organization like this grow
wait, did maya make it sound like reptiles are hard to care for? maybe i missed it or misheard, but reptiles are generally cheaper in the long run than most mammals... check out clint reptiles for why they're cheaper overall, despite requiring some upfront costs with enclosures and heating pads and UV lights etc. spoiler alert: most reptiles eat a LOT LESS than mammals due to being cold-blooded and generally having a lower metabolism. they also don't require anywhere near as much social interaction as mammals/birds. the only type of pet that can be cheaper would be arthropods (insects, spiders, etc)
I'm very emotional about Alveus but I'm just not weird about it lol. I appreciate the thoughtfulness about the parasocial thing though. Sometimes parasocial relationships can be healthy, its just we've seen a lot of overhwelming evidence of it being toxic and harmful.
Reptiles are probably some of the easiest to care for animals, way easier than most mammals and birds at least. The reason they are under cared for is because people 1) don't do any research/ get horrible advice from places that should not give bad advice like pet stores or breeders 2) just don't care for the well being of their reptiles, because "they're just reptiles" "they don't have emotions" "they don't need that much"
BEST SNAKE ENCLOSURE I HAVE EVER SEEN. seriously though this enclosure is wonderful. There is so much depth and height that will make noodle so happy. AND THE GREENERY.
It's always so cool to see the constant progress Alveus is making. Always expanding and improving. New ambassadors, new enclosures for current ambassadors, new staff who kick ass and help the sanctuary grow. Crazy to think that all this has happened in just a couple years and there aren't any signs of slowing down any time soon. It sounds like they have a huge property with plenty of space left for new facilities. Can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you Sruti and Lucas! What an amazing enclosure. So glad we can watch the live cams to watch Noodle- and soon Patchy & Toast thrive. Will we also get to see a Marty party from the live cams sometime? I’m excited!
I was just thinking the other day that it’d be cool for Alveus to do a collab with a creator like SerpaDesign on creating enclosures for reptiles and fish
@@leonk1102 Birds are not reptiles lmao. Under one particular classification model, yes, but generally understood by the scientific community? Absolutely not. Yes, they probably share a common ancestor, but they do not share enough traits to be considered even close to reptile. Let me know when you find a cold-blooded bird with scales that typically lays it's soft-shelled eggs on land.
@@lysolcoke2HD „in the scientific community“ the last time I checked, Biology and even more taxonomy are part of the scientific community. Because your definition is just what the average person thinks a reptile is.
Looking at Patchy's enclosure: Yes! So good to see climbing features for ball pythons. They have been found with birds in their stomach contents in the wild and observed to use climbing features in captivity. Great enrichment!
Amazing job to the amazing community for making this possible for Alveus! Also huge thanks to Shruti (I hope I spelled that right) and Lucas! Oh and the lighting fella. All of you are amazing humans ❤
I never knew just how small Noodle's enclosure at her previous home was and I was in pure shock. And then I remembered that Noodle has grown since you first got her... That enclosure was abysmally tiny. So happy her and the other reptiles have beautiful enclosures that are up to AZA standards now. Thank you Alveus, for all that you do!
You are all just amazing beings helping the critters of this beautiful earth in this way, I’m so grateful to these moments, these celebrations of enriching the life of even one creature-just incredible ❤
Truly amazing Viv's.. didn't expect much when i came here but i have to admit i am very positively surprised about the standard, quality and efforts of these new homes massive thumbs up
Alveus should work with Snake Discovery at some point! They’ve been working with and researching reptiles (especially snakes) for over a decade and have their own ambassador program up in Minnesota.
vivariums are SOOOO goddamn cool, i'm ngl 90% of the reason i want to stop renting someday and own a home is because I want to be able to built cool shit like this for the reptiles i want but can't have right now lol
0:41 this happened before I got my green iguana (i was 10 and didnt know about the problems of the exotic pet trade) and i was like "WHY WE GOTTA BULLY MY POOR SCALE BABY!! HES STAYING IN HIS LANE!! HES A GOOD BOY!!!"
How do you have access to AZA guides? For example, the lighting guide for the reptiles room. I can't seem to find it and was wondering if you need special access to it?
10:16 Please dont make that sound again, my dog sprained his leg yesterday and for a moment i thought he was in pain 😅 Love what you do, always nice to see people help animals in need
Is there a procedure, like with dogs and cats, to introduce these animals to new enclosures? Like with dogs, it's usually enough to have their old bench, blankets and toys (and humans), for cats it's best to have their last "used" litter box from the last place, so their smell is present, and a variety of other things that have their smell (like blankets, toys, cushions, scratch poles, etc).
For species that get stressed easily, if the animal was in a smaller quarantine enclosure you can just set the entire container in the new setup and let them crawl out on their own. If the animal is okay with handling you can just move them in, provided their new enclosure parameters are correct (heat, humidity, hides, etc.) and they'll be fine.
This video has inspired me to build my ball python a new and improved enclosure :3 not that the one she has now is bad mind, but after seeing this I can definitely see how I could make it better.
The story abt the ball pythons being smuggled through LAX is obviously horrifying and cruel, but could you IMAGINE being a TSA worker who is afraid of snakes and you open a suspicious looking pvc pipe and it's HUNDREDS OF BABY SNAKES
I care for reptiles, and I love seeing the proper care for them here. I feel like even professional places even fall short on the proper care of reptiles, and not even to mention the poor care that is advertised marking them as “easy pets.” They require daily care like everything else. They need love like everything else. They might not be the same as another animal, but you can really bond with them like everything else. It makes me so sad how poorly cared for they are most of the time.
My friends younger sibling gave me n my gf a banana ball python cause they couldnt take care of him anymore. didnt take care of him well and hes gone into shed today for the first time in like 6 months maybe? He has a big wound on his head. He was in a 15 gal at 3 years old. He had a hide that is too small for him and would scrape his head trying to get under his rock water bowl and its healing really nice! I love snakes this just added onto my good day omggg. Making reptile enclosures is genuinly so damn fun oh my goshhhh

Those enclosures are insane. Absolutely A+ work from Lucas.

I was there live. It was great to see.
Literally. Those enclosures look AWESOME!!!!!

Congrats on going bioactive! I'm sure the critters will love it!

reptiles are my passion, so it's awesome to see someone give them a beautiful room and awesome enclosures!
Alveus has some of the best names for their ambassadors. Don't care what anyone else has to say about em.. I think they're great.
It's crazy that some people still breed spider ball pythons despite the neurological issues associated with that morph.
Sooo cool!! What an incredible enclosure 🥲🥲
the new enclosures look awesome, i bet they're gonna love them!!
Amazing work from all involved!!
The reptiles are my favorite of the ambassadors. Big fan of our scaly friends :)
This is so cool. Love how there's a new things constantly.
Live food can also do a lot more damage than just to the scales, they can go for the eyes, nose or mouth of the snake.
Seeing noodle uncurl from around maya to her enclosure was so endearing. What a gorgeous, chill reptile girlypop

I really enjoyed Noodle getting introduced to the new enclosure w/ Maya lol, was really slow but super fun
New enclosure looks LIT (literally).
Pretty incredible stuff.
Snakes dont strike because they're aggressive and I'm amazed a zoo thought that. Snakes only strike out of fear or to eat.
love this!! also, miss Maya is glowinggg
