Currently tone chasing My Chem stuff, so some really nerdy guitar gear talk below! According to Ultimate Guitar, the guitars were recorded on Marshall JCM 800s and 1960a Marshall cabinets and sometimes blended with a Hiwatt amplifier for texture. Ray's guitar was his Gibson Les Paul Standard with Seymour Duncan Phat Cat p90s, which can explain the really percussive sound of the guitars before the chorus. That also makes Ray's choice of using a Les Paul Jr with p90s live justified, as it would make him sound more the the record. As far as pedals go, the sparkly lead in the bridge, and the heavy breakdown after the lead was most likely made with an ehx POG, a pedal that creates octaves like a Digitech Whammy. Ray also used a Crybaby wah, boss eq pedal maybe for boosting the Marshall amplifiers, and boss chorus pedal. He also said that a Boss pitch shifting pedal was used too, but I don't know what exact Boss pitch shifting pedal was used. Maybe a Boss PS-3? That pedal has delay and pitch shifting functions, so maybe that was used on the bridge instead of the pog? Most of the pedals and amp equipment can be found on Axe FX stuff, Line 6 Helix or maybe a Line 6 Pod. I know there are tons of free VST plugins out there that can emulate a lot of the pedals and amps used on The Black Parade.
@@coreyryan97 hmmm. From the research I’ve done, it seems Frank must have either used a Marshall plexi with the dookie mod, or just like Ray, a JCM 800 (it’s most likely the jcm 800). I do know he used the Blues Driver to boost his amps though. I also think his famous Orange Rockerverb amps weren’t used until the Danger Days era. I think he used his famous Epiphone Les Paul custom Elitist too among other guitars.
hey !! i did research and some guy that went to a danger days era show saw his pedalboard and claimed it was a BOSS Super Shifter PS-5 !! hope that helps ofc
You don't appreciate how insanely gainy his tone is until you listen to it out of the mix. All of this just from a JB bridge pickup, a TS808, and a JCM800 (at least I think that's the core of his tone). You don't need a lot of gear when you have the *right* gear.
There's actually an interview where they all talk about their equipment if you're curious - I think I remember him saying he just uses like one or two pedals
Not that simple. Black Parade used Rob Cavallo’s dual amp setup (2 differently modded JCM800 heads running into a 4x12 with V30s from the 90s). And the preamp was often driven further into distortion with a klon. NOT TO MENTION what ever other pedals Ray and Frank used for each song. Then there’s the phenomenal engineering job of Doug McKean which gets into rare mics and preamps. Then mixed by CLA.
honestly its hard to tell because hes using a chorus effect and a phase shifter effect both of which add to that stacking sound but most likely Frank played a stack of the same lead to double it. Hard to tell though. Also a sign of a good engineer at the mix board.
For the folks wondering why his guitar sounds so different here then in the song, it’s not blended with the other instruments and he uses p90s which are incredibly mid frequency heavy
I’ve gotten this exact sound by hitting a 5th fret harmonic on the G string. A fast and imprecise upstroke will make it sound more aggressive and pull more against the next notes.
Guitars: are definitely either a gretch or a Les Paul junior on the verses and a Les Paul standard in the chorus. Amps: I think this is before the Friedman's, so probably either a Marshall jcm 800 or a Bogner Ecstasy. Pedals: maybe a light overdrive to help boost the mid cut the bass and a little bit more push into the amp, there is either a light vibe or chorus effect on the high part after the second chorus (2:19) with a little bit of reverb, after that there's a octave on the heavy sabbath part (2:48) probably a pog but you can do with a whammy. And all the parts seems to have been at least double tracked. Hope this helps you. 😉
es "Is this original from Ray Toro?" con "ie is the touch?" supongo que te refieres a que si el es quien toca, bueno, sería "Is he playing this?" y... si, aunque supongo que en algunas partes está una 2° guitarra tocando (puede ser Frank)
Damn like damn. I knew Ray was a great guitar player but this is just sick. Seriously how is he so good?
Lily Skupinski Years of practice, and only years of practice
he is god
guitar god tbh
2:18 always gets me dude.
Talented and underrated. 💜
He is totally a genius!!!!

I’m tone Chasing Frank atm any tips? From what I know it’s LP into a JCM900 and a Boss BD2 for the main tone but anymore info would be great!

Ooh ooh, I THINK you can hear the orange amp being used on black parade in the song My Way Home is Through you. The rhythm guitar is so… chalky? Lol
You are doing gods work. You just explained to me why I crave p90 sound

I feel like I need to bow down to him almost.

They make a p90 JB? Most of his stuff sounds like he is using his lpjr....

@@devnullish I wanna say he primarily uses the SD phat cat, which is a p90 shaped like a humbucker

@@alf5617where did you get this info from, im a gear nerd
There are 2 guitar parts, but I think he's just stacking, Frank has a separate part
Not really sure, just a theory
almost any good band will do this. it’s smart to stack your riffs so they sound a little more “full”
honestly its hard to tell because hes using a chorus effect and a phase shifter effect both of which add to that stacking sound but most likely Frank played a stack of the same lead to double it. Hard to tell though. Also a sign of a good engineer at the mix board.
Yea some are actaully franks parts
Ray Toro you blessed human
Can you do the same thing but with Frank Iero?
2:18 never have i heard a guitar crying
Ray Toro is so good, one of the bests of his generation .
One of the reasons why I love this song. Man THIS IS AMAZING
@kiral414141 i got this from a guitar hero pc version, i just took the audio away and this is waht left :3 if i find more i swear i will upload it :D
gotta love 2:58 octaves
Reynaldo Figueroa yeah. that was a classic thing that he loved to do for the heavier parts of songs.
They're not octaves but fourths
@@davidzhangchen144
No, they sound like unison bends.
@@trecoolmaniamost octaves are done by frank though
Ah. Ray Toro. Our God.

RAY TORO IS SO jdjgHHDHDH. LEGENDARY I CAN'T CAPTURE WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY JUST.... FUCK DUDE HE JUST GOES SO FUCKING HARD ALL THE TIME
could you make instrumental versions of their songs?
DAMN RAY IS A FUCKING LEGEND
will have the track of Frank Iero?
3:00 🎸🔥
is that a guitar at 0:26? if it is how do i play that? is it just a cool sounding pinch harmonic?
It's a guitar doing a pitch harmonic, but for some reason this track cuts out the beginning pick sound of it.
ok thank you very much!
It sounds like he hit the natural harmonics on the 7th fret with his volume knob down and then raised it back up after he had hit them
To me, it doesnt sound like harmonincs. I think its feedback from the amp, and they have faded into it. Its tough to know for sure though
I’ve gotten this exact sound by hitting a 5th fret harmonic on the G string. A fast and imprecise upstroke will make it sound more aggressive and pull more against the next notes.
Thats beatiful thing about MCR. Gerard is the soul of the group. But the music alone is its own world.
anyone know what pedals/effects he uses for this unique sound?
Just overdrive and Marshall amp

he used marshall jcm 800
gain=8
treble= 8
bass=3
middle= 4

don't forget to use overdrive as a booster
