Its a pentatonic scale its basically just a major scale with the three "risky" notes taken out, by risky i mean they won't always sound good when played with other notes in the scale, where as basically any note in a pentatonic scale sounds good with any other note from the scale.

Yeah, it really is, but the cool thing about any instrument is being able to do one thing pretty well can make it sound really complicated and awesome. With guitar, learning scales and easy riffs can make it look way more difficult than it actually is. However, Ray Toro is fucking spectacular at guitar, and Frank is really talented as well. So I'm not playing them down or saying they aren't talented.

This video impresses me not only because these two are actually damn good at playing guitar, but because it feels like they're so coordinated. If one starts a riff, the other can just jump right in on it and make something that sounds twice as cool.
it's called legato, you sustain a note by keeping your finger on the fret until you can hear the sound start to dissapate then up/down to the next fret but half hama-ing on the next fret, it's hard to explain to someone who I guess (not meaning to be rude if you do actually play) guitar.

To everyone who thinks they're joking when they say it's simple, they aren't...the riff is cool but cool doesn't mean hard listen to This Is How It Goes by Billy Talent some really cool riffs, and it's relatively simple. NaNaNa is great for a novice guitarist super cool and it's also fun and easy to play, it sounds tough so yoy can show people the riff and they'll be amazed when really it is simple.
Like Vasil said, the intro is not very hard. Once you get it flowing, it just comes to you. This song is actually what made me start playing guitar when i gave up at first XD
Holy christ, this is awesome! I'd pay cash money to see a dvd of them just shooting the shit & tossing riffs back & forth. There's something special getting to watch their fingers fly up & down the frets, so fast yet with complete precision, without the camera shaking back & forth or the sound being distorted by the crowd. And then Ray slipped into "Mama", Frank joining in, his sound floating just a little above Ray's. It slays me how they've managed to merge their styles, creating melodies that blend & complement each other. I especially love the casual ease they show as they're doing these amazing things with their instruments.
