Love ELP! This is my favorite ELP song! You should also check out "From The Beginning" and "Lucky Man" for future ELP reactions. Keep going down this rabbit hole! Thanks for this great reaction, Saeed! ✌💙✌
For a story guy like yourself, you MUST hear their song PIRATES. ABSOLUTELY EPIC! For mind-blowing live, their version of FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN LIVE AT MONTREAL STADIUM is a must!❤
Progressive rock greats like this were a part of my teenage years, how awesome is that. Other great songs are "Lucky Man", "C'est La Vie", "From The Beginning"
On vocals is Greg Lake, who also played the bass & guitar. He was also the producer of their albums. He was in King Crimson prior to forming this supergroup with Keith Emerson from the Nice (Keyboards) & Carl Palmer - Crazy World of Arthur Brown & Atomic Rooster (drums).
Glad to see you dip into prog, ELP was a supergroup Keith Emerson piano, organ & Moog synthesizer (from The Nice), Greg Lake bass, vocals & guitar (from King Crimson), Carl Palmer drums (from Crazy world of Arthur Brown & Atomic Rooster). I saw them twice, once in a college auditorium & then Carnegie Hall (they did two whole sets with a rest in between). Prog is the confluence of rock, classical, jazz mainly though I saw them slip into Rock N'Roll once. They were everything that fans loved & critics hated. Thanks for checking this out Saeed. Other Prog bands were Gentle Giant, (complex musical structure both in instrumentation & vocals), King Crimson (often thought to be the start of prog), Pink Floyd (started out psychedelic evolving into prog), Genesis (early albums before Peter Gabriel & Steve Hackett left at different times, then they became a pop band), Caravan, Yes, Soft Machine (very much the jazz side). The list goes on, but prog was killed for the most part by Disco, punk & rock critics, only Pink Floyd & Yes had enough following for record companies to stick with them. Interestingly the 90's to present have Jam Bands (like Widespread Panic & Umphrey's McGee, though primarily rock use other musical forms like prog did), Electronic (Tangerine Dream), Tool & Polyphia (complex structures) to name a few that continue to push the rock & jazz based structures. This is by no means a comprehensive list.
The cover was amazing. It was a gatefold cover, The lower circular part was a cut out, and the illustration around it was split down the middle. When you opened those two "wings", you exposed the painting on the inside, which was the whole face, an enigmatic woman with her eyes closed. The whole thing was painted by H.R. Giger, who was known for his strange "biomechanoid" paintings, which combined the human with the machine in a very disquieting, grimy, dark way. (He did the xenomorph and alien ship designs for Ridley Scott's "Alien" film.) This was a pretty light painting for him, as his stuff was usually nighmarish. But the "hair" you can see on either side of her face is actually made up of lines of bones like vertebrae, clearer when you see the whole picture. It really was a work of art, that cover. (Because LP's measured 12"x12", there was a lot of room for artistic experimentation; some covers were often framed and hung up on people's walls. Of course that's all gone now, sad to say.)
@@Serai3 Maybe you're right, I'm not really buying LPs any more so haven't kept up with the current output and whether the cover artwork quality is there or not. I was lucky I suppose in that apart from the plethora of musical talent emerging (I'm talking mainly late 60s into the 70s) visual arists were given great freedom to express themselves on albums, in such diverse ways. It all added to the joy in actually buying then playing a record for the first time (on a turntable!).
🎼🫖🎼🫖🎼 .. another amazingly talented band from the 70s. The radio stations of my youth had this type of song playing on multiple stations. Maybe I thought then that all artists could sing great , play instruments easily , and compose complex sings like it was nothing at all. I was wrong. These guys are so good, as you will discover Saeed. 🏔️🐎🏔️🐎🏔️🐎🏔️
I went through elementary school and we learned about all the old composers and then I went into junior high (yeah, I'm old enough that it was before the whole middle school thing) and my 7th grade music class was learning our alma mater and listening to this album. It was some serious culture shock after 6 years of classical and folk music.
My favorite Emerson Lake & Palmer Songs are "Pirates" and "Show Me The Way To Go Home" (they're not the originators of that one, but their cover is very good)!
I haved loved this band since they first came out and this is one of my faves! Agreed--Karn Evil # 9 is awesome! I always associate similarities between "ELP" and "Yes", and maybe even Jethro Tull in some moments.
One of the best lives shows I ever saw was ELP on Halloween in Houston, Texas in 1977. Keith Emerson had a huge Jack-o-lantern on top of his Moog. Really great show. The songs off of this album and Works, Volume 1 were most of the show.
A great Prog Rock band 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Try Lucky Man. I remember when their album Brain Salad Surgery came out. Sooo good 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Jerusalem was a great track of the album 👌🏻👌🏻
Tarkus is the greatest song by ELP. Greg Lake's vocals are superb, Keith Emerson's keyboards are majestic, and Carl Palmer is simply amazing with his drums and percussion.
Love ELP! Their productions are matchless. While they have some interesting live recordings, the studio versions are the result of a great deal of hard work and represent what they wanted audiences to hear. It was difficult to reproduce the effects and sounds of this song (for example) in a live setting at the time they were active.
Pioneers of prog. rock. These guys are musicians first producing music whether it becomes popular or not. "From The Beninning" is my favorite song of theirs. I've seen a live performance of "Karn Evil 9 ..." that will blow you away. Here's a link to impression 1 part 2: ruclips.net/video/21sG7hg_dgk/видео.html
Could you please react to "A little bit of everything" by Dawes? Trust me, as a writer, you will love this band. Best lyric writer ever in my opinion with Billie Joel
Love ELP! This is my favorite ELP song! You should also check out "From The Beginning" and "Lucky Man" for future ELP reactions. Keep going down this rabbit hole! Thanks for this great reaction, Saeed! ✌💙✌
My favorite song sung by Greg Lake is "C'est La Vie" So beautiful.
For a story guy like yourself, you MUST hear their song PIRATES. ABSOLUTELY EPIC!

Thanks for the facts..❤
I would love to have Saeed react to "Fire" from the "Crazy World of Arthur Brown"........the video version. CRAZY
ELP oh yeah! ❤ They were one of the earliest electronic sound bands…led the way.

One of my favorites ❤ Great song
Other great songs to check out lucky Man, karnevil 9, From the beginning, Tarkus, Fanfare for the common Man, and Jerusalem.❤

Or has it? The resurgence of vinyl in recent years means the portal is open again (so to speak!).
@@Llydrwydd Not much of a resurgence, and the artwork I've seen on new album covers is pretty shabby compared to what was being produced back then.

Brings me in my feels🎉 it’s Greg Lake who’s singing.🔥🙌🏼🤘
Haven't heard this since I was like 14 with headphones in my Grandma's house.Love this tune.
I remembered this album, I had it, another great band!
You should do the acoustic version with just Greg Lake. OMG, his voice 💜💜💚💙💙

ELP is one of the best prog bands of the’70s. “Just Toss a Pebble” and “From the Beginning” are musts.
Both of those are a couple their top songs ! ( “Take A Pebble” is the proper title though)
I went through elementary school and we learned about all the old composers and then I went into junior high (yeah, I'm old enough that it was before the whole middle school thing) and my 7th grade music class was learning our alma mater and listening to this album. Lucky Man, From the Beginning, Karn Evil #9 and C'est la vie are great as well
From the beginning is my favorite from them.
Thanks Debby! And, as always, you Saeed! ❤ Love this one. Been long time!
Saw these guys in "74 in Seattle. Have always been a huge fan of their music. Three of the best at the top of their game. Please do more of them.
Greg Lake is the best voice of the 70s. Was so lucky to see Brain Salad Surgery. I still miss him.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the support🙏🏽❤️
There's a live version from Greg Lake, the lead singer and guitarist, on youtube.
My favorite Emerson Lake & Palmer Songs are "Pirates" and "Show Me The Way To Go Home" (they're not the originators of that one, but their cover is very good)!
I was brought to ELP through C'est LaVie and Lucky Man. Stayed for the Works, particularly Greg Lake's stuff.
Greg Lake is the singer and guitar, Carl Palmer on drums and Keith Emerson on keyboards
Love it ❤awesome song!❤
This is a Greg Lake track from the album. Karn Evil 9 is a prog rock mind blower!
Early prog. Love Greg Lakes voice.
One of my FAVORITES from ELP.
FROM THE BEGINNING.
LUCKY MAN.
KARN EVIL
I haved loved this band since they first came out and this is one of my faves! Agreed--Karn Evil # 9 is awesome! I always associate similarities between "ELP" and "Yes", and maybe even Jethro Tull in some moments.
H.R. Giger did the cover art.

Lake was such an underrated Front Man
Lucky Man
This was one of the records my Mom had when I was a kid, and I played it to death: "Brain Salad Surgery."
A great Prog Rock band 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Try Lucky Man.
I remember when their album Brain Salad Surgery came out. Sooo good 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Jerusalem was a great track of the album 👌🏻👌🏻

1997 Montruex Jazz Festival lLive Tarkus/ Pictures@an exhibition or Medley Part 2✌🏼❤️
Tarkus is the greatest song by ELP. Greg Lake's vocals are superb, Keith Emerson's keyboards are majestic, and Carl Palmer is simply amazing with his drums and percussion.
Brain Salad Surgery is a brilliant album anyone who thinks Rush was the best 3 piece ever clearly has never heard it

You need to listen to all parts of "Karnevil 9", 18 minutes, plus "Tarkus", "From the Beginning" and "Lucky Man"
I only know the studio version, I can't imagine any other being this good!
Now listen to from the beginning singer was Greg Lake also the guitarist RIP Greg
Bought this album when I was 14 with my first paycheck. I think it was $3.99...2.5 hours work for me.
do ,From The Begining , by the same band
Could you please react to "A little bit of everything" by Dawes?
Trust me, as a writer, you will love this band. Best lyric writer ever in my opinion with Billie Joel
Please react to Stigma by Tom Walker
Here's Greg's solo live version. ruclips.net/video/yoxHGxQw9ws/видео.html
Greg Lake was the best
You mean
HARP SI CHORD.
I will have to find a video to learn the correct pronounciation of that one 😄
Too Much Talk!!!!
