Jokes aside though (besides that being his Twitter) he's been a rising player for a while now, and even if you don't like his character ya gotta give props where it's due. And BigD had a great performance, ICs seem cool in this game (I despise them in other games), they do massive damage per hit as well, and a lot of tricks where it seems can take big advantage of people not having great mastery of the matchup and get away with a lot of things, he had a great run overall and was fun to see a character so rare.

Those statistics don't mean much towards Steve. As you can see, that essentially just means "whatever character a top player decided to pick up won a major."

Big D was one of the few players who came up with good strategies when confronting Steve's most broken attacks, such as the magma block, the acceleration wagon, the block barriers, tnt with redstone, etc... No matter if he losts the battle, she is still the best nanny of the Icies and one of the few who knew how to have patience with the most annoying character to play.

Every time a character like Steve shows up in a Smash game will everybody go with the mentality of just ban it because I don't like it? @@gabrielmoravargas4728 Acola was yo. He has the same case as Sparg0. People thought he was a wifi Warrior, he came offline, he won. Sparg0 did the same with Aegis, except he switched back into Cloud. Acola used Luigi before hand. But Acola has actually beat top 5-10 players in the world. He also has a Kazuya from what I heard and I think one more character. He has legitimate wins. Apparently this Onin guy won something a couple of weeks ago but I haven't even HEARD of him until seeing someone mention Steve just won GOML. I only got recommended the Melee vids from it lol, maybe this has a lot of thumbs downs.
People need to study the matchup, big d lost because he kept getting hit by easy to see coming anvils and playing at ledge WAY too much with a character with 1947# ways to kill you off stage

I think the reason people hate Steve is the fact that he has 3 or 4 moves that are pretty inarguably the best in the game. At least Kazuya is fun to watch with his insane zero to deaths and great sound design, but Steve matches are often decided with ridiculous anvil and minecart cheese that's just boring to watch and frustrating to play against.
@Joshua Suh A pretty free recovery, stray hit minecarts that kill or command grab across the stage, and a downair that invalidates juggling and kills at like 90. Not to mention repeatable 0-60 combos and the best aerial frame data in ultimate. This character isn't the fun or entertaining kind of broken, it's just frustrating.
Steve is basically DLC Pac-Man with Fox/Sheik guessing games, and is more versatile than Joker. Not that surprising why he is so disliked If Steve was a pure rush down char like Roy then maybe he would be more popular
I like watching some Kazuyas (like Riddles) but if you really think he's less boring to watch then Steve you're absolutely wrong. All the attacks he has don't matter because 9/10 times Kazuya's combo is just electric to nair loops.

People literally just don't understand how to fight Steve, and I mean a Steve that isn't on elite smash. Once people finally start exploiting his recovery and minecart, the results will change.

@@megamc3803 I’m not trying to get too invested in this as someone who wanted Steve in the game anyways + quit playing competitively, but do you really think it’s apt to say “Steve isn’t broken, he’s only won 4 tournaments compared to 8 for this character” when all those characters have been out since near the game’s release AND are won with players who have a proven track record of excellence? Marss or Leo can switch from their mains to Joker and probably still top 8. We know none of the new Steve players can do that because none of them did that well until after Steve was released. Exactly what happened with Bayo in Smash 4.
Big D was playing around mine cart and anvil really well. I feel like he would have won if he stopped monkeying around at the ledge with belay a couple times. Cost him some early stocks when he should have just taken stage. That being said Steve's neutral has to be the most obnoxious in the game.

@@bsmccrunner4 Actually, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya, and Sora all released after Steve. So there were plenty of opportunities to balance Steve. People who dislike fighting Steve should consider a pocket Hero, since that MU is pretty free for Hero provided you play it the right way. Steve doesn't have many answers for a character with a frame 6 move that deals 30+ and kills at like 80-90 (Kaboom), on top of buffing themselves while Steve mines, and having two moves that break blocks and linger long enough to keep their hitbox after (Fair and Bair), also the fact that bounce beats anvil and minecart. Hero's biggest misconception is bad RNG, when you can reroll, and will typically have at least 1 or 2 good picks every time you roll. Hero bodies Steve, but no one wants to counterpick.
Why are so many individuals in the crowd requesting Steve to be banned? He is no where near smash for Bayonetta and just about every character can rack up so much damage off of one conversation and take a stock after the second conversation. Individuals just need to learn the match up and counter stage pick Steve.
In brawl and 4 there were characters that needed to be banned that weren’t because people kept spamming this argument that people needed to learn counterplay. People don’t want a third smash game in a row ruined because people say to learn counterplay.

Steve does not have no instant one hit stock confirm to Wii U smash nor can he do everything that brawl meta knight can do. Every top tier character is the same level as Steve and people do have to learn the match up. Steve is not a character where you see just top eights of him. Steve will never be banned and individuals just need to stop whining and learn the match up.

Although the two previously mentioned can’t even be used by Steve if he has no iron, which in return kills most of his mobility and makes him prone to juggling. People had over 2 years to learn the matchup against Steve, and it seems that the matchup inexperience against him is still prevalent. Until people know how to actually play against a Steve, especially in neutral at times (such as mining in neutral), people are going to continue hating on him due to his mediocre gameplay to watch, which I find to also just be an opinion rather than a solid fact.

He clearly has the best risk/reward ratio in the game, and this situation has the same vibe as Bayo where unknown 15 year olds suddenly started winning majors. Steve will never be overcentralizing like Meta Knight or Bayo because he is so weird to play and good fundies don't get you far with the character. Not being overcentralizing doesn't mean it wouldn't be healthier for the game at a competitive level to see the character banned. Being banned competitively doesn't affect 99% of players, because no one is stopping non tourney players from playing Steve. As a spectator, it sucks to watch the Steves out-character everyone else. Even the commentators stop having fun watching Steves get 90% off of safe openers for no reason. Killing competitive hype is reason enough imo.
This attitude of get good and learn the match up is what allowed Bayo to become as big of an issue as she was. Not this time, people are actually calling out Steve early. We don’t want this game to end up like smash 4(which is completely dead)

What a tournament, well played to everyone involved. As someone who took a massive break after brawl because of the transition to a new platform, and then having recently got a switch started playing smash again, it's cool to see ice climbers still doing something - even if it is just one tournament lol

1:35 just jump towards Steve and either use a safe aerial or air dodge diagonally towards him depending on what Steve does, or hit the TNT with a weak aerial as fast as possible. Some moves literally hit it offstage (Marth up B).
I can’t believe he won because I’ve never seen worse ledge guarding or ledge trapping by a Steve ever. He didn’t even try to kill the ice climbers off stage where they’re super vulnerable.

Literally Onin won because he kept on exploiting Icy's bad recovery, and any good character can exploit bad recoveries. BigD is amazing but he played at ledge WAY too often against a character who loves edge-guarding.

We need to wait another 6 months before we even discuss this topic further. Hell, even a year. We just have to wait to try and find some sort of counter play before we ban steve.

Sparg0 did the same with Aegis, except he switched back into Cloud. Acola used Luigi before hand. But Acola has actually beat top 5-10 players in the world. He also has a Kazuya from what I heard and I think one more character. He has legitimate wins. Apparently this Onin guy won something a couple of weeks ago but I haven't even HEARD of him until seeing someone mention Steve just won GOML. I only got recommended the Melee vids from it lol, maybe this has a lot of thumbs downs.

I think the reason people hate Steve is the fact that he has 3 or 4 moves that are pretty inarguably the best in the game. At least Kazuya is fun to watch with his insane zero to deaths and great sound design, but Steve matches are often decided with ridiculous anvil and minecart cheese that's just boring to watch and frustrating to play against.
@Joshua Suh A pretty free recovery, stray hit minecarts that kill or command grab across the stage, and a downair that invalidates juggling and kills at like 90. Not to mention repeatable 0-60 combos and the best aerial frame data in ultimate. This character isn't the fun or entertaining kind of broken, it's just frustrating.

@@megamc3803 I’m not trying to get too invested in this as someone who wanted Steve in the game anyways + quit playing competitively, but do you really think it’s apt to say “Steve isn’t broken, he’s only won 4 tournaments compared to 8 for this character” when all those characters have been out since near the game’s release AND are won with players who have a proven track record of excellence? Marss or Leo can switch from their mains to Joker and probably still top 8. We know none of the new Steve players can do that because none of them did that well until after Steve was released. Big D was playing around mine cart and anvil really well. I feel like he would have won if he stopped monkeying around at the ledge with belay a couple times. Cost him some early stocks when he should have just taken stage. That being said Steve's neutral has to be the most obnoxious in the game.

People who dislike fighting Steve should consider a pocket Hero, since that MU is pretty free for Hero provided you play it the right way. Steve doesn't have many answers for a character with a frame 6 move that deals 30+ and kills at like 80-90 (Kaboom), on top of buffing themselves while Steve mines, and having two moves that break blocks and linger long enough to keep their hitbox after (Fair and Bair), also the fact that bounce beats anvil and minecart. Hero's biggest misconception is bad RNG, when you can reroll, and will typically have at least 1 or 2 good picks every time you roll. Hero bodies Steve, but no one wants to counterpick.

Why are so many individuals in the crowd requesting Steve to be banned? He is no where near smash for Bayonetta and just about every character can rack up so much damage off of one conversation and take a stock after the second conversation. Individuals just need to learn the match up and counter stage pick Steve.
In brawl and 4 there were characters that needed to be banned that weren’t because people kept spamming this argument that people needed to learn counterplay. People don’t want a third smash game in a row ruined because people say to learn counterplay.

Mainly due to complaints over blocks, anvil, and minecart. Although the two previously mentioned can’t even be used by Steve if he has no iron, which in return kills most of his mobility and makes him prone to juggling.
People had over 2 years to learn the matchup against Steve, and it seems that the matchup inexperience against him is still prevalent. Until people know how to actually play against a Steve, especially in neutral at times (such as mining in neutral), people are going to continue hating on him due to his mediocre gameplay to watch, which I find to also just be an opinion rather than a solid fact.

He clearly has the best risk/reward ratio in the game, and this situation has the same vibe as Bayo where unknown 15 year olds suddenly started winning majors. Not being overcentralizing doesn't mean it wouldn't be healthier for the game at a competitive level to see the character banned. Even the commentators stop having fun watching Steves get 90% off of safe openers for no reason. Killing competitive hype is reason enough imo.

Joker has won 11(mainly MKLeo and Zackray), Wario has won 10 (Mainly Tweek and Gluttony), Byleth has won 7 (All MK Leo), ZSS has won 4 (Mainly Marss), and Pac-man has won 4 (All Tea). Stop complaining about Steve and do some research because there are no solid statistics that say he is going to take over the game.

Actually I feel like I have heard of Ddee from somewhere. How old is the kid? What character did he main before Steve? Was it Pokemon Trainer and Pac-man? If so I remember a video from 2 years ago about a crazy good online player by the name of Deedee with a waddledee as his profile picture.
