    Good job, thanks gm for wrecking a good design, this use to take 2min. Anyone attempting this in cold weather be careful pulling on the widow washer tank, they are brittle when cold and might crack.

    just did my driver's side without removing a thing. 2013. 2 minutes. Just reached up and twisted clockwise to loosen harness, pull the harness out, replace the bulb, and squeeze/feed harness back through, twist back on. No need to remove anything.

    I just use a wooden wedge from a piece of firewood to flex filler neck back after one bolt removal.
    Gives enough access to get low beam.

    Thanks for the info and video. There sure is a lot of mess in the way of changing a simple headlamp. Making it hard so people take it to a mechanic to change a lightbulb maybe? My wires seemed to short to turn it so I was glad to see the video as confirmation that my analysis was correct. Turns out I could pull the wire up out of the chasis area for some slack.

    I've been doing the hand contortion thing for 4 years somewhat as in this video. There is another video out there, which I just found prior to watching part of this video, that shows you how to pull the headlight can out completely to change the bulb from the front. First remove the 8 pushpins from the radiator support cover, and remove the rad support cover. Pull the 4 bolts that hold the grill in place, and then compress the 4 speed clips. This allows you to remove the grill. There are 3 bolts that hold the headlight can in place, one of which is behind the fender well. Remove those, and the can slides out with a little maneuvering. No more getting my hands scraped up from the rad support.
    It appears that changing out side markers and high beam will require complete removal of the can. These are pretty much hidden behind sheet metal.
    I wish that I would have found the video several years ago. I'm replacing low beams twice a year. If this is indeed a wire harness issue as the dealer claims, then the harness in question should be relatively cheap and easy to replace once the can is out of the vehicle. Changing out low beams twice a year is bullshit. GM should never have gone away from the prior design. The prior design was a 5 minute job tops.

    • @shavedape
      @shavedape 8 месяцев назад +1

      I tried going from the front (pushups around headlight, prying them up to pull headlight can out which is not what you're talking about and should have just done that) and immediately snapped off the first one. That's when I stopped and decided to go from the back and got the pan out so the coolant bottle flexes but stopped since I still couldn't get a good grip on the bulb. I was worries there was a better way or that 'my' way (his way too) was the wrong way to go about it and would never work so came to youtube. I can't believe they design things this way, just to change friggin light bulb that should take seconds. Going back out there with more confidence to finish off his method and hope it works for me too but next time I may use the other method you mentioned.

    • @paulb9376

      This holds true on a Mazda CX-7. I replace the bulbs once a season, there’s a noted design flaw, and they have a stupid clip style retaining the bulb. If the damm car wasn’t so good to me I’d get rid of it just for that reason. What a pain in the ass

    I used my battery-operated impact drill to remove the battery tray's bolts. I used needle-nosed pliers to remove the old light from the headlight lens. I placed the newly connected light bulb into the light bulb holder and put it back into the lens. I then reconnected the wired plug back into the bulb holder. I found doing it this way less of a struggle of putting back into the lens as per in the video.

    This process is a little more complicated if you have a diesel, since that battery tray is used the battery has to be removed, in order to start the process, and you have to be careful cause if you didnt disconnect the other battery the positive cable will still be hot, just a bunch of extra work, I went from a 05 GMC 1500, to a 07.5 GMC 2500HD, and had the left headlight go out immediately, (138K on the truck) and went with the housing removal method, broke the housing in several places, the plastic gets really brittle apparently, which sucks, I did some plastic welding and zip tie work and got it back together, I'll upgrade to aftermarket housings when the bulbs I put in burn out next time
