A much appreciated re-visit video. Spotted some good/expensive games in those Surugaya "cabinets of wonder" during your last visit. Inspired by all your game hunt videos i've planned a day to visit this store and the Hard Off in Haijima next month on my first ever trip to Japan. Doing it all on my lonesome i just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration and confidence boosting advice over the years. Happy hunting!
It might be a weird comment but as a fellow westerner living long term in Japan I have often wondered how long the bountifull rows of retro games will last. After covid travel restrictions lifted i remember seeing massive blank gaps in the shelves of Surugaya in nipponbashi osaka that were pretty much bursting weeks prior. Not only that but the prices have shot up. I don't know maybe retro places will just sit on stock and jack the prices up? But they aren't making new stuff so year by year they are decreasing.
I don't want to speculate, but it seems normal that stock would go down as customers increase. I'm not too concerned about it, I'm just enjoying the ride while it lasts.
I was in Tokyo last week and noticed that places like Super Potato were rammed with tourists so the demand is there to hoover everything up. I think that shops have jacked up the prices to retain at least some stock, it’s a shame to see places like Trader with empty shelves.
I missed these pickup videos! I did add Detana Twinbee and XMEN vs. Street Fighter to my Japanese Saturn collection, some pretty good stuff. Might be my favorite system to collect for with a ton of great games at reasonable prices from what I've seen. Although the wife is definitely wanting to add a Dreamcast to our list so hoping at some point to pick one up, as I know there's a ton of great stuff on it, too!! But yeah overall some good pickups here for sure.
@@MadPanicGaming oh I had one back in the day but I was gonna help the mrs. replace hers... yeah definitely a lot of good ones on the system no doubt!
@@MadPanicGaming capcom really put in their top tier arcade games into this console. I watched your 10yrs old video and was shocked at how much good solid titles for DC were sold at around 1000yen then(when DC were to be obsoleted and paradigm shift for sega from console biz)!
I couldn’t smash like fast enough when I saw this dropped. Good pickups especially for people that don’t speak Japanese. It is amazing Chrono Trigger CIB goes for 2700yen in Japan and hundreds of $ in the US.
2700yen is just over $18 right now, so not bad at all for a cib game in pristine condition, but I can remember a time when that same game was no more than 500yen. Back when I wore a younger man's clothes lol.
I don't know which suragaya this is but it's better than shinjuku. Unless shinjuku just got a bunch since August. Great selection, albeit you pick faves from older videos. Please use 4:3 ratio in future, you did on shenmue. Look forward to more.
@@MadPanicGaming You know what I meant. Show us another Kunio-kun cart, or Capcom fighter on Dreamcast. Get into the weeds, man, we know you loves yerself some Gradius. 🙄
So, how did I do? Would you have gone with my picks, or did some other games catch your eye?
Always a pleasure to watch your videos mate
Hey! Does this store have a site that is in English? I saw quite a few titles I'd love to add to my collection of imports.
@@rockmanx6857 go to Buyee they have listings in English.
@@MadPanicGaming PLUS ULTRA ✌
Glad to see Jim back in the stores again!
I love Shenmue! I need to replay that at some point, as well as play through nr 2 and 3!
Hope you learn from this channel. Dont jump cut every few seconds in your video, it is annoying. At least add transition in between each cuts

I order from them often. I can’t wait to visit them in Japan.
Happy hunting!
I enjoyed very much how you showed gameplay inbetween the shopping sequences, the format is evolving and it's not easy with that kind of content
Yeah, I'll try to have individual themes and challenges for these videos in the future, just something to help each video stand out.
Great to see you back on hunts again.
Good to be back
I really enjoyed this video and the challenge. I also beem enjoying the reband and new stuff you have done with the channel.
Thanks! It's been fun working with other people on artwork, music, editing etc. I'm happy with how things are turning out.

Oh man, strap in if you're picking up a Dreamcast, some all-time greats on that thing. Some pricey ones too.

8:25 That's an INSANELY good price for Mega Games 10 on the left there.
Fantastic hunt...Valis games have gone up quite a bit indeed..i m fine with my 2 switch collections and the retro-bit reprint of MD Valis III xD
Good call, game compilations, repros, ROMs, all great economic alternatives.
That store looks great! Thanks for another game hunting video!
My pleasure, bud. This place is awesome, just need to bring some money with you. That glass case...
Thanks for another great video!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
your videos are always cozy videos
THANKS! Glad you're enjoying them. 👍
Chrono Trigger should be at least 8000 yen for the artwork alone 😄😄😄
I'd gladly hang that cover art on my wall.
Amazing selection for DC games!
One of my all-time favorite consoles. Way more killer than filler.

Hey Jim, what's the music you have playing over the Sega segments? It's very jamming!

This one is in Tachikawa.
Shinjuku Surugaya has a “blink and you’ll miss it” game section.
I see some sakura wars 19:52 are they in reasonable price? I heard back then they quite popular so...
Yeah, Sakura Wars games are always inexpensive, they sold like hot cakes so there are a ton of copies floating around.
@@MadPanicGaming thanks for the info! Love your video!
Would've spent all my money on the Capcom fighters and KOF, just 'cause.
Even after all these years of hunts, Jim, you still insist showing on camera the same old games.
It's almost like they're not releasing new games for these consoles.

As an RPG fan it is a struggle since Jim loves shoot em up and fighting games 😅
