Soul Fighter's worst problem was that it likely tripped up a lot of parents who were asked by their kids to buy Soul Calibur for them. Imagine getting all excited about your fancy new Dreamcast, only to find Soul Fighter bundled with it.
Once upon a time in the late '90s, a young boy named Tommy was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his brand-new Sega Dreamcast. He had heard about the amazing games he could play on it, particularly the one he desired most - Soul Calibur. Every day, he would pester his parents, asking them to buy the game for him. Finally, the day came when Tommy's parents surprised him with the Dreamcast. Excitement bubbled within him as he eagerly tore open the wrapping paper. But as he unveiled the sleek, white console, his eyes widened in disbelief. Instead of the highly anticipated Soul Calibur, there was a game called Soul Fighter bundled with the Dreamcast. Tommy's heart sank. His dreams of dueling with sword-wielding warriors in Soul Calibur had been shattered. He couldn't understand how his parents had made such a monumental mistake. The disappointment swelled inside him until it was unbearable. In his frustration, Tommy stormed off to the kitchen, where he found his sister's secret stash of Bounty bars. With tears in his eyes, he grabbed a handful of the coconut-covered chocolate bars and began to devour them voraciously. The sweetness of the chocolate mixed with the bitterness of his disappointment, creating a storm of emotions within him. When his sister discovered her pilfered chocolate stash, a chaotic family argument erupted. Tommy's meltdown over the wrong game choice, coupled with his sister's anger at the stolen chocolates, set off a chain reaction of yelling and accusations. Their parents tried in vain to mediate the situation, but the damage was done. The once-happy family was torn apart by this seemingly innocent mix-up. Tommy's rage and his sister's distress over the missing chocolates led to weeks of tension in the household. It was a situation that none of them had expected when they opened that Dreamcast box. As time passed, the family slowly began to heal, but the memory of that fateful day lived on as a cautionary tale. Tommy eventually learned to appreciate the effort his parents had put into the gift, and his sister, after much sulking, forgave him for eating her chocolate. It was a lesson in the importance of understanding and communication, for sometimes, the smallest misunderstandings could lead to the greatest chaos.
That reminds me of the time I asked my dad for gran turismo for Christmas and got some bs called grand tour racing I had to act happy but boy was I pissed 😅
Seventh Cross is bizarre. I like it mainly for the fact that its a cool idea, and the whole game feels like a fever dream. Its so bizarre and has a very strange atmosphere. Not saying its not awful, but I appreciate it in a weird way. The ending cutscenes are pretty wacky as well.
What's kinda sad is there's a lot of cancelled Dreamcast games largley due to its short time on the market, so it's kinda sad some great games were cancelled while stuff like these made it out.
But a lot still got released on other consoles. Games like Gunvalkyrie, Toejam and Earl, Fable, hotd3 and Panzer Dragoon Orta and Shenmue 2 (us version) still got a release on the Xbox.
I knew Seventh Cross would appear... that said, if you stick with it, it's actually really addicting. At some point, voice acting and cutscenes start happening. I was like WHAT IS GOING ON. I have very fond memories of that game and I'm glad I stuck it out. The story was VERY interesting and honestly, an unforgettable experience that I still think about to this day.
@@dangerotterisreait actually is a great game. It turns out that you’re an experiment created for survival of the human race far into the future. The final form you take is a human and you and a female human fight and kill a tyrannosaurus together. I really loved Mortal Kombat Gold! It was just a port of the arcade with a few additions. If you liked MK4, MK Gold was a good addition to your collection. We played a lot in our family.
@@jamesdripsmusic1581 Agree, but I don't really feel MK 4 Gold deserves a spot on a list of "Steaming Piles on Dreamcast". I'm sure there's something far more deserving of being on the list.
I really enjoyed MK4. It was the same gameplay of the classics with a few additions, but THAT'S the reason for enjoying this game in my opinion! MK Deadly Alliance was a departure from the classic formula, so as a result, I disengaged from the franchise. MK gold was to MK4 like the Ultimate or Trilogy MK was to MK3. It was MK4 on steroids!
The worst flaw of Mortal Kombat Gold was that the original release (yellow disk art) was very buggy. The second printing from a month later (red disk art, "Hot! New!" label on the cover) fixes that problem.
@@DoinThatRag yep, played a lot of it on Playstation. Liu Kang is unstoppable in MK4, he is much weaker in the next games. I surprised that people sometimes against MK4. Game is perfectly balanced and had a great visuals during 1997 or something.
@@DoinThatRageven on other platforms, the game was less polished, fast and fun compared to the earlier MK games. While it was exciting to see MK in 3d polygons, the gameplay and flow of the 2d games was not present. MK struggled to find a good 3d release. Their first 3 3d games kinda blew gameplay-wise, compared to the polish and flow of the 2d games.
My ideal Mortal Kombat game for Dreamcast would be Mortal Kombat Trilogy with higher resolution, some extra content, and 3d backgrounds like what they did with KOF
You are on FIRE here friend. Dishing out verbal pwnage while still keeping a positive energy. It doesnt feel hateful, it's more like you're having fun pondering how these disasters came to be. Good stuff
You could honestly say that Seventh Cross Evolutions pace is just as glacial as evolution itself, making itself outstanding from the perspective of how the developers stayed so true to the source material lol
@@JiltedValkyrie I heard about the ending from a RUclips streamer upload of it. I haven't seen it but the idea of its ending always peaked my curiosity, maybe if I was younger and had more patience for this kind of gameplay :/
I get the feeling the DC would have had a better library had the Saturn been more successful for longer. It was a victim of being released too early, for most of its life its rivals were the PS1 and N64, and so many titles were just ports from these consoles with a higher resolution. If the Saturn had remained competitive, Sega could have launched the Dreamcset later, with even more power, a DVD drive and ports from more comparable hardware. I doubt it would be more successful, but the library could have been so much more
One game I had on the Dreamcast that was full of issues but I still enjoyed for what it was is Omikron The Nomad Soul. It was glitchy as hell, some janky controls and collision detection, some issues with sound, but I really appreciated what they were going for and the PC I had at the time was unable to run it. I thought the concept was really cool and I really liked the world. Futuristic, dystopian cyber-punk alternate universe. It's definitely one game I'd like to see remade with modern technology.
Many of these games seem pretty fun. Soul fighter, mortal kombat, fighting force, seventh cross, and urban reign are kind of cool. Actually, i happen to love soul fighter. Not saying it should win any awards, but there is a fun combat system behind the unintuitive controls. I wouldn't be so quick to write some of these off.
Holy crap, Seventh Cross: Evolution….I THINK I watched Maximilian Dood do a live-streamed playthrough of that game. I had NEVER heard of it, but him describing the concept made it sound interesting and reminded me of a SNES game I was infatuated with called EVO: The Search For Eden.
I learned that Acclaim & LJN were bad news in the NES era, and avoided them ever since. I knew these ones probably stunk and managed to avoid them, fortunately I'm not sure I can think of a Dreamcast game I ever bought that I deeply regretted.
4:35 the guys who made South Park (Matt Stone and Trey Parker) actually blame the studios and publishers equally, they say that they wanted games that were more risqué like the show and that the game people weren’t willing to push the envelope in the game format, which is why they eventually took a direct hand in the development of South Park games.
i felt the same about fighting force 1, devs just hadn't figured out the hack and slash genre yet which is why we got the bad "beat em up" games. but hack and slash is basically the successor of the 2d beat em up games.
I love this channel mannnnnn So lighthearted n relaxing n nastalgic this along with comic book channels is like a mental get away from the stresses of life
Fun fact about Acclaim is that the company's founder went on to found Retro Studios and entered into a 5 game partnership with Nintendo for the GameCube. Almost immediately the studio was a mess, with 4 games getting canceled and the founder being ousted after it was revealed that he had a history of being abusive. After the guy left, Retro made Metroid Prime. It's like firing an NFL head coach after an 0-17 season, and the next year the team wins the Super Bowl.
That was one good thing about the UK version of "Official Dreamcast Magazine" , they could rate any game whatever they wanted, they didn't have to rate a game higher just because Sega developed/published it.
Seventh cross is a game that you had to be patient with. Yes the first few hours you’re like wtf, but if you stick with it you’ll get in the rhythm of the game. The ending was crazy, I really wish that they’d made the sequel 9th will. I also enjoyed Soul Fighter, but there are a few things that irritated me about it. The fact that every time someone is knocked down a earthquake would happen was annoying as well as someone in the background screaming “OH NO” every time you’re knocked down. The ending was weird as it was just some Japanese pop star singing.
lol first game I thought of was Soul Fighter. I get the feeling part of why it was so hated was simply that "Soul" was at the beginning of the name, and most of us bought a Dreamcast specifically for a game that started with "Soul", so it really ramped up how far it would fall.
I'm probably one of a few people who actually enjoys playing "South Park: Chef's Luv Shack" despite how short and simple the game is, especially since I still find myself playing it on my Nintendo 64 as a way of killing time if I'm feeling bored, and I even found the Sega Dreamcast to be even better due to it containing more voice-acting bits and sharper graphics that make it look exactly like the show it's based on, considering the fact that the game was also released more than a decade before the release of "South Park: The Stick Of Truth".
My best friend and I in 7th grade in Y2K had many long nights playing this game on Dreamcast, listening to Adam Sandler CDs, downloading MP3s on Napster, laughing our asses off but trying our best not to wake his Dad. It literally seems like yesterday to me, I can picture it so clearly. I can't believe that was a quarter century ago.
That NFL game's hilarious, runners last minute deciding to either run away from the ball or just not bother catching it, same with the defence and lack of intercepting. Monty Python-tier
Strongly agree with your take on Mortal Kombat. There was a certain charm the 2D Mortal Kombat games had, especially UMK3. I always thought it was completely lost in MK4 and couldn't understand why it was even popular in the arcades. I remember at the time people would say, "because it's in 3D" or "look, you can use weapons now", and I always thought, so what, I've seen most of this before and the weapons weren't even implemented that well. It never impressed me. War Gods was just more of the same and an embarrassing copycat at that. Then I soon played Soul Calibur on a friend's Dreamcast, and it wiped the floor with this game. There's not even a fair comparison. This game is a joke in compared to the incredible game Soul Calibur was, which somehow managed to be even better than its arcade version all while maintaining a silky smooth 60fps. Most reviewers at the time gave Soul Calibur a perfect score, and it was well-deserved.
Great video as usual! My comment: Seventh Cross Evolution is not for everyone... but the game its worth playing if you like a bit of rogue-like and a bit of farming
I wouldn't consider Luv Shack as a great game by any means, but it shouldn't be judged in one player mode - it's a party game and can be pretty fun if you have four players.
I saw Soldier of Fortune in the beginning clip and was wondering if it would be in here. I'm glad it wasn't, it doesn't belong in here next to Soul Fighter and Spirit of Speed. It's a great game (on PC), just the load times are killer on the DC! I did complete the game and was happy it supported the mouse and keyboard. I actually would get up and walk away when I got a loading screen or I would switch TV inputs. I could complete an entire race in Mario Kart SNES while Soldier of Fortune was still loading. 😅 When I got my Game Boy Advance, I would play that while Soldier of Fortune was loading. 😂
Seventh Cross also required an entire memory card of space for one save, AND happens to be incompatible with all third party memory cards. That's a total disrespect for player time and money.
The title alone got me hooked to this video, the responses want me to try these trainwrecks to see if they're that "okay" even for a Dreamcast version of something I "like" such as South Park Rally.
I love MK4, I can't understand why some people don't like it. The Dreamcast version is ok. These days I play n64 mostly because of no loading times and my Dreamcast is dead :( my laser died a few years ago and I can't find a replament or another Dreamcast where I live (and I'm afraid to order from another country). I miss my Dreamcast.
I don't aggree with Spirit of Speed: a game using thrities cars has great potential because these cars were utterly insane. The speed record they reached was 380km/ph, on a tin with zero safety whatsoever. You'd need to fully lean into it, make the player feel the speed, possibly implement a roster of racers that die as you inevitably crash and some good old propaganda because it's the thirties for some black humour. That makes the game even worse. There was great potential for something really fun.
We need to see some more positive reviews. Like Dino Crisis on the Dreamcast. Or how about all the new releases for the system? SCUMMVM has been adapted to the Dreamcast.
When MK IV came out I was super disappointed because I hated the 3D graphics and it felt decidedly less "serious" than the first ones. But I played on, specially because I had a friend to play it with. It grew on me a lot, and I quite enjoyed it. Everything else you mentioned checks out.
MK Gold was needed after Midway stiffed us on MK4 right after the Saturn just got it’s 3D pad. Sucks that you couldn’t use the Analog stick with MK Gold tho, that’s the only reason the N64 version is remembered so fondly over Gold despite Gold being more feature complete.
I was so excited by Spirit of Speed, that period is so underrated for racing game, and yet this one does absolutely everything wrong. Having a Daytona USA-like gameplay would have been perfect, put some Road Rash-like crash animation and it could have been great...
LOLOL dude it hurts seeing the South Park game and MK Gold! I loved playing those. We didn’t know anything else though. I miss the time period where I wasn’t so critical of games.
Being a beat em up enthusiast i've had soul fighter on my must play list for over 20 years now but I just haven't been able to bring myself to start playing it for some reason.
I remember playing Soul Fighter when I first got my Dreamcast and thought it was okay. I had a couple of other games like Episode 1 Racer that I played a lot more.
That was a solid list. I never played any of these games, so good to know they are worth avoiding. Yeah, Acclaim definitely was the very definition of "steaming pile" for many of their releases. I would love to see a Genesis/Mega Drive and/or Saturn list of steaming piles as well!
I love Urban Chaos on PC. I didn't play the Dreamcast version, but I heard it had a lot of bugs with it. It would've been a great game on Dreamcast and Play Station if the bugs were not there and if the controls were easier.
That Seventh Cross Evolution game looks like someone saw EVO: Search for Eden, and wanted to make a 3D interpretation of it. Also if you want a crappy Dreamcast game that wasn't handled by Acclaim, there's Who Wants to Beat Up a Millionaire, developed and published by the same teams that would later create the Outlaw Golf games.
The video capture seems very dark for some reason, anyway what I always thought about ports of 32 bit games to the DC back then was even if they were just resolution boosts i'd rather get the DC version as by then I had a bigger screen tv so the PS1 jaggies were evident and DC versions just seemed to look better due to this added with higher quality videos.
I know everyone's best and worst games are going to be purely subjective in context, but in actuality, from both a design, experience, and sales perspective, Sonic Shuffle really should have been on this list. Broken AI that effectively cheats no matter what difficulty you play on, boring and re-hashed sprite design, overall a less fun carbon copy of Mario Party, which ironically was from the same developer (HudsonSoft) due to Sega contracting them to produce a multiplayer game on the Dreamcast, but only giving them 5 months to do so. I bought it full price from Funcoland back in 2000, and it was one of but a handful of moments in gaming where I definitely felt like I got cheated out of $50. I knew in hindsight that the game we got was Sega's fault, not HudsonSoft.
It was the time developers were finally dominating how to make 3D games. The Dreamcast was fighting the PS1...that was sad 😢 Japan also got a lot of terrible games for it 😬
SLX, you had a great idea for a future series when you talked about Acclaim. How about best/worst devs for all Sega consoles? Even episodes solely focused on a particular dev and their releases on each console? 👍🏻
I never owned a Dreamcast growing up and that was a dream goal of mine. They were at Pawn Shops but somehow they began to fade into obscurity in time. Though I have played a Dreamcast in other places. In 2017 I bought one when I was living with my grandmother and passed a month and half after New Years in 2018 and wasn’t able to play it til I got my own place by the end of that year. I didn’t care for the games being old like NBA 2K, 2K1 and 2K2! I purchased them cause they were the first three! I never played Soul Calibur but I heard so many stories about it so I bought it and man this game was amazingly fun. It’s missions and more! I played Sonic Adventure especially on Xbox 36 a few years back but never had the chance to beat the game. I wondered if I should get it on Dreamcast or purchase it on the PS4? I feel Dreamcast is more home and original but that damn game and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle are going $50 to $100 and something on EBay. Soon I’ll get it! The Dreamcast deserved so much better , that’s why I cherish the console and never get rid of it. It’s my favorite gaming console!
Dreamcast has Power Stone, Power Stone 2, MVC, MVC 2, Spawn in the Demons Hand, Illbleed, D2, Blue Stinger, Sword of Berserk, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and many more great titles. With that said almost every game I listed is expensive now a days for a complete copy. Some people might have to burn copies just to play the game which is 100 percent fine since Sega no longer makes money from these games but as a collector myself I understand that people want to play on the legit gd-rom. However, when some games are selling in the 300-400 dollar price range such as illbleed I can see how others won't be able to have that specific title in their collection.
Oh, I had a few of these! I've actually given Soul Fighter and Fighting Force 2 an honest shot but never got really far for exactly the reasons you described. In Soul Fighter, I always assumed there was some game mechanic preventing me from picking up items. But now I finally see it's just broken!
It blows my mind that Midway released Mortal Kombat Gold with Namco's Soul Calibur at launch lol. If the internet was as developed as it is now I feel like it would have suffered worse sales
Soul Calibur was not their game. But they released Ready to Rumble on the same day, which I think is also much better than MK Gold, so that would be a better comparison.
Love your videos, I always think you express yourself very well. Since I've had only Nintendo and Sony consoles in my childhood, I'm always very curious to learn more about Sega's history. These days, I also love to play Sega classics, especially with my growing love of Arcade gaming.

Imagine if they had made the far more forgivable mistake of buying Soul Edge.
So what happens at the end? What is the meaning of it all?
What's kinda sad is there's a lot of cancelled Dreamcast games largley due to its short time on the market, so it's kinda sad some great games were cancelled while stuff like these made it out.
I wish Starcraft had a port for Dreamcast
"Half Life", "Propeller Arena", "Rent A Hero", etc. Some of these still got leaked and you could burn them.
Yeah like that cancelled Castlevania
But a lot still got released on other consoles. Games like Gunvalkyrie, Toejam and Earl, Fable, hotd3 and Panzer Dragoon Orta and Shenmue 2 (us version) still got a release on the Xbox.
I bought the Dreamcast because very early on half life was announced. Oops.
I played this for a while didn't get very far because it was so dull in the beginning.
@@dangerotterisreait actually is a great game. It turns out that you’re an experiment created for survival of the human race far into the future. The final form you take is a human and you and a female human fight and kill a tyrannosaurus together. Decades later you have started a whole tribe, and the humans that created you come to reclaim you in their space ships. It was a shocking turn, they cranked it up to 10,000😂.
@@guybeleeve damn, I've totally missed out 😂
Mortal Kombat 4 was a lot of fun. I played the N64 version a lot
I really loved Mortal Kombat Gold! It was just a port of the arcade with a few additions. If you liked MK4, MK Gold was a good addition to your collection. We played a lot in our family.
i think it's great but the dc had crazy good fighters. by comparison it's not nearly as good
@@jamesdripsmusic1581 Agree, but I don't really feel MK 4 Gold deserves a spot on a list of "Steaming Piles on Dreamcast". I'm sure there's something far more deserving of being on the list.
A agree, this guy dont know what the hell he's talking about with MK Gold. Usually when people suck at certain games they say it's bad.
@@porchpirateofpestulon Agreed - love or hate MK4 (I loved it personally, but it's got college student union nostalgia points) MK Gold is a good port.
I liked Soul Fighter! Big sprites, funny dialogue, a lot of weapons. I actually beat it a few years ago
Same! I think it's heavily underrated. It's a solid beat em up!
It was one of my better dreamcast games. I enjoyed it
Yes me too. Like it!
A sprite is a static piece of graphics... characters.
@@Gary_Hun You're right in that 'sprite' is the wrong word, but the correct word is 'model.'
The worst flaw of Mortal Kombat Gold was that the original release (yellow disk art) was very buggy. The second printing from a month later (red disk art, "Hot! New!" label on the cover) fixes that problem.
Sega lord dumbass probably isn't aware of this.
Have to admit, I was surprised to see this game on the list.
@@DoinThatRag yep, played a lot of it on Playstation. Liu Kang is unstoppable in MK4, he is much weaker in the next games. I surprised that people sometimes against MK4. Game is perfectly balanced and had a great visuals during 1997 or something.
Still buggy as hell.
Good stuff
Admittedly, Fighting Force 2 is a bad game, but I found it fun 🤷
Bad games can still be 😊 fun

@@WiegrafFolles Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol for PSX?
I had fun with it, compared to the ps2 version it looked amazing.. It was way worse than the 1st one, but it was fun.
Shout-out to Liu Kang's voice actor. Incredible.
The ending videos of the game are hilariously bad. Sonya and Kano come to mind.
You could honestly say that Seventh Cross Evolutions pace is just as glacial as evolution itself, making itself outstanding from the perspective of how the developers stayed so true to the source material lol
I still really liked it in the end. It was worth getting through it to see the end.
@@JiltedValkyrie I heard about the ending from a RUclips streamer upload of it. I haven't seen it but the idea of its ending always peaked my curiosity, maybe if I was younger and had more patience for this kind of gameplay :/
@@Gilgamexwhat happens at the end?
Apparently there is a confrontation with "God"
Damn that first game actually looked decent
I wonder why the time counts down by 1 every 5 seconds
I actually like Soul Fighter but it is very unintuitive.
Agreed. I completed it and had fun.
18:17 the moment your character starts driving it immediately looked like the simpsons hit and run arthritis edition
As soon as I saw the title of this video, I thought to myself Soul Fighter has to be on this list and you didn't disappoint!
7th Cross Evolution looks like one of those weird, experimental indie games you'd see on the 3DO in Japan.
I learned that Acclaim & LJN were bad news in the NES era, and avoided them ever since. I knew these ones probably stunk and managed to avoid them, fortunately I'm not sure I can think of a Dreamcast game I ever bought that I deeply regretted.
Acclaim = Ack! Lame!
Oh man, I fell into the Soul Fighter trap, too. I think it might be one of only 2 or 3 games I've ever returned in my life.
i felt the same about fighting force 1, devs just hadn't figured out the hack and slash genre yet which is why we got the bad "beat em up" games. but hack and slash is basically the successor of the 2d beat em up games.
I love this channel mannnnnn
So lighthearted n relaxing n nastalgic this along with comic book channels is like a mental get away from the stresses of life
Love the title! Hopefully this series continues with other consoles.
I'd love to see Steaming Piles of Genesis and Saturn games especially given my interest in having a Sega Saturn collection of my own.
yes 100%
I know Mortal Kombat Gold wasn’t a looker by that point but I loved it.
It's like firing an NFL head coach after an 0-17 season, and the next year the team wins the Super Bowl.
games like urban chaos, nightmare creatures 2 were just ports of Playstation games
Shame how Shiny titles like Sacrifice, Messiah and Wild 9 never got their day in the sun as Dreamcast titles
Someone on a forum once said you should pronounce Acclaim as "Ack! Lame!". This video shows how true that is.
I absolutely loved my Dreamcast. I still play it today. Armada was easily my favorite game!
Great video as usual!
My comment:
Seventh Cross Evolution is not for everyone... but the game its worth playing if you like a bit of rogue-like and a bit of farming
Soul Fighters biggest crime was not having a cooperative mode. Would be remembered as a decent game if did that single thing.
Alternate title: Dreamcast titles to pick up to make your collection feel less lonely.
Alternate title even needs to exist, with the Dreamcast having died early, most of its good games have been covered to death.
These are DC titles that will contaminate your collection.
I wouldn't consider Luv Shack as a great game by any means, but it shouldn't be judged in one player mode - it's a party game and can be pretty fun if you have four players.
SoF wasn't a terrible game but those load times were a killer. Definitely an ODE game
When I got my Game Boy Advance, I would play that while Soldier of Fortune was loading. 😂
Seventh Cross also required an entire memory card of space for one save, AND happens to be incompatible with all third party memory cards. That's a total disrespect for player time and money.
Qb club 98 for 64 was amazing I remember putting tons of time into that one.
The title alone got me hooked to this video, the responses want me to try these trainwrecks to see if they're that "okay" even for a Dreamcast version of something I "like" such as South Park Rally.
I own "South Park Rally" on all the consoles, and I only liked the PlayStation version.
Pen pen tri-icelon was so bad it made my head hurt, but I think your list is games you had hope for initially.
Very funny video!! I love that you never seem to run out of content to make about these dead consoles
I was 14 when the Sega Dreamcast came out in 1999. I was still playing and loved PS1 at the time
We need to see some more positive reviews. Like Dino Crisis on the Dreamcast. Or how about all the new releases for the system? SCUMMVM has been adapted to the Dreamcast.
Pre watch, I know I'm gonna love one(s) of these
When MK IV came out I was super disappointed because I hated the 3D graphics and it felt decidedly less "serious" than the first ones.
But I played on, specially because I had a friend to play it with.
It grew on me a lot, and I quite enjoyed it.
Everything else you mentioned checks out.
15:30 Fun fact: the now familiar drum beat that keeps looping as background music here is called the "Amen break"
this video was a steamy pile of excellence
MK Gold was needed after Midway stiffed us on MK4 right after the Saturn just got it’s 3D pad. Sucks that you couldn’t use the Analog stick with MK Gold tho, that’s the only reason the N64 version is remembered so fondly over Gold despite Gold being more feature complete.
I was so excited by Spirit of Speed, that period is so underrated for racing game, and yet this one does absolutely everything wrong. Having a Daytona USA-like gameplay would have been perfect, put some Road Rash-like crash animation and it could have been great...
Part 2 please, loved this
LOLOL dude it hurts seeing the South Park game and MK Gold!
I loved playing those. We didn’t know anything else though. I miss the time period where I wasn’t so critical of games.
Great Stuff, as always!
Being a beat em up enthusiast i've had soul fighter on my must play list for over 20 years now but I just haven't been able to bring myself to start playing it for some reason.
Another problem with Spirit of Speed was the insane decision not to include a 2-player option!
I remember playing Soul Fighter when I first got my Dreamcast and thought it was okay. I had a couple of other games like Episode 1 Racer that I played a lot more.
You missed real steamer, Death Crimson OX. If you do a part 2 it should be included.
Legendary video, have a great day Sega Lord X
That was a solid list. I never played any of these games, so good to know they are worth avoiding. Yeah, Acclaim definitely was the very definition of "steaming pile" for many of their releases. I would love to see a Genesis/Mega Drive and/or Saturn list of steaming piles as well!
Always a blast when you post 😊
I love Urban Chaos on PC. I didn't play the Dreamcast version, but I heard it had a lot of bugs with it. It would've been a great game on Dreamcast and Play Station if the bugs were not there and if the controls were easier.
The warmed over PS1 ports was the bane of this platform.
Soul Reaver was excellent
That Seventh Cross Evolution game looks like someone saw EVO: Search for Eden, and wanted to make a 3D interpretation of it.
Also if you want a crappy Dreamcast game that wasn't handled by Acclaim, there's Who Wants to Beat Up a Millionaire, developed and published by the same teams that would later create the Outlaw Golf games.
17:55 those bikes sound more like buzzing insects than dirt bikes.
Championship surfer was a waste of a CDR.
The Dreamcast was fighting the PS1...that was sad 😢
Japan also got a lot of terrible games for it 😬
With Sonic on the thumbnail I thought almost certainly Sonic Shuffle would be here
Urban Chaos was good.
SLX, you had a great idea for a future series when you talked about Acclaim. How about best/worst devs for all Sega consoles? Even episodes solely focused on a particular dev and their releases on each console? 👍🏻
No one ever seems to mention Dragonriders of Pern on the DC.
Had potential just endlessly boring
That motocross game made me miss motocross madness. I used to love the freestyle mode.
I would add Super Magnetic Neo to this list. That game is busted
Feels like the thumbnail was a bit click-baity.
A DC bad games episode with poo is clickbait?
@@SegaLordX Sonic's presence in the thumbnail.

If you want Mortal Kombat Gold, look for the one with the "Hot New" on the front cover. And the disc label must be red.
Love your videos, I always think you express yourself very well. Since I've had only Nintendo and Sony consoles in my childhood, I'm always very curious to learn more about Sega's history. These days, I also love to play Sega classics, especially with my growing love of Arcade gaming.
Great video, I'd forgotten about some of these

I feel the exact same way about Urban Chaos. I gave the game so many chances I really really wanted to like it. Like soul fighter there is a basis of a good game
