Hey It makes me really happy to see a sign of life and a new video from you. I find your videos really interesting and quiet relaxing. I really enjoy building antennas myself. You just inspired me for a new project. Ill combine a tplink ant2409A( which also yellowed outside) with a dish shaped fan grid. More videos please! Best regards from Germany.
Thought you had quit. Good to see you back. Would be good to see same build before you added second biquad to see if adding second moved frequency response. Neat build though and it looks sexy. Brass is great.
Glad to see you back online!! There’s been no quality antenna instruction while you were away. If you have occasion to throw an Alfa Triband antenna on the VNA , I’m lost as to the results I’ve come up with. It’s a two coax lead to a pcb with a microstrip pattern that appears to be a colinear design but still leaving me in the dark.
It will be a few videos yet as I have a few videos to upload that a filmed a year ago. I now have the equipment to do very accurate return loss measurements quickly so they will be part of future videos.
@@andrewmcneil it will be a lot of surprises even for you when you will measure your old antennas with SWR-meter (: it is really good idea for big video-disclosure of your old famous designes (;
I'm really pleased to see you back with a video, I had feared you were ill or worse. Forgive this stupid question from a newbie... if I was making this antenna to use with a mobile phone, say as a home base antenna, how do I connect it to the phone. Do I make an inductive loop cradle or something like that? Thanks, Ace
Thanks. Two questions. 1. In testing this antenna you get a peak at 3.3 GHz which you said was smack dab in the middle of the 5 GHz band in the UK. Will this antenna work for 2.4 & 5 GHz WiFi in the U.S.? 2. What’s the function of the brass tubes and washers?
I saw base station antennas use dipoles. So dipoles are better than biquads? Also I believe those antennas use different polarizations, so dipoles should be better to distinguish them?
Hi Andrew, Please pardon my lack of basic knowledge of this subject. I am using a Huawei B535-333 4G LTE Mobile Broadband Router to get internet in my shed. I have a large external flat panel aerial mounted high up. The signal is really weak here in Wales as the mast is about 12 miles away. Will this antenna improve the signal do you think would several of these connected together help ? Thanks
What is the purpose of the tubes and washers? Also could this be incorporated in a PCB?

thanks chief. I have issue with signal strength indoor, and I wanna build a 700/1800MHz 4G+ antenna. I have already Mikrotik router with LTE class12 modem. Does the coax cable matter, please? I can squeeze about 3mm wire through out the old windows (old rented flat). I can't drill walls or window frames. I have some old 3G antenna with external antenna, and they have about 3mm coax. Any suggestions to this challenge? all standard coax cables have around 5-6mm
I was thinking about you just today. Glad to see you are doing well. Question : what would be (to your knowledge) the best 5G antenna? Either DIY or a product
Andrew! We missed you! I was just working with some LoRa antenna the other day and wondering if you needed some ideas, if you could try your spin on LoRa?
I'm glad to see you back, I always liked your videos. I'd like to ask you if you know measurements of bi-quad antenna that would be ideal to use with satellite dish for only 800 mhz LTE band 20? (Or your recommendation for different type of antenna that would work better with satellite dish) My problem is that i used "Modern BiQuad antenna calcullator" from 3g-aerial website which works really well but the antenna is too big to be used with satellite dish - about 30 centimeters at widest part. I have clear view to the Cell tower so i'd like to improve my signal as much as possible.
If you're based in UK, can I please ask for links to these materials? There are too many variations on eBay or Amazon UK, but we need to be more exacting as to the ones you use. Appreciate it and your video is very helpful indeed. Thank you.
The brass brazing rods I ordered came in from China and are 2.49mm in diameter. Will the antenna still work or should I keep looking for 1.6-1.8mm rods?
What do you think is more important, materials or design? How do you come up with your designs (shapes, materials, thicknesses)? Can you please show download speed tests, i am personally interested and i think others would be too meaning you would get more views if you wanted them. I want to build antennas to improve my connections for cheaper than buying a premade board. Could you make designs based on, eg the waveform 4x4 and 2x2 antennas with copper/brass tape without breaking intellectual property laws ( their designs look quite simple in teardowns are are probably copies of other designs. I dont know.) I know thousands of people want the bigger 4x4 antennas but arent willing to shell out $400. But would spend the time building one for even a small gain in signal strength/quality. The lowest ive seen a 2x2 antenna for was $70.
Oh, thank god you're okay. I thought the worst had happened.
I’ve wondered a good many times what had happened. That’s a relief you’re ok and back. I’ve missed seeing your inspirational videos
Just had to take some time out but the good news is I have around 30 videos to edit!
Great to see that you're back. This is exactly what I need. I'll be trying to make one of these. Thank you so much for your great work!.
I missed you, even sent you an email.

Amazing Antenna! I assume the 20mm brass tubes are for the 3.3ghz band? Could the best gain for 3.5ghz be achieved when making those 21.4mm long?
Yes, correct

Biquad , onmidirectional or dipole .
If you can point at the repeater location, yagi.

just use old wifi routers and Open WRT and the B.A.T.M.A.N protocol and you can build a city sized mesh network.
