For anyone interested in studying jazz blues, Wes is a majorly important teacher. Everyone take note, there is so much valuable information here if you take the time to work through it. Everyone should also listen to how Jack is playing EACH note. Some a little louder, some a little softer. You may not notice this attention to detail, but you subconsciously hear it and lean closer to listen. Thanks for the lesson! Happy playing everyone.
You're absolutely right about the subtleties of Jack's playing. He shows us that dynamics is a tool as important as phrasing and note choice. Tasteful player!
Montgomeryland funk in my opinion, is the best wes blues solo of any. I don't know why more people are not aware of it. It's off his very first album with his brothers and other compilations. That song would be great for you to analyze.
I might be getting this wrong, let me know haha. So the whole half is being superimposed over G7 to resolve to D7? Kinda like playing a diminished over a dominant?

Welcome aboard!
Something worth noting: Wes Montgomery played the right hand with his thumb only. Quite remarkable.
Hope all is well with you Jack. Thanks for the upload. Never a bad time for some Wes
Agreed! Thanks Mike!
A point worth noting, Wes did not use a pick, only his thumb. Amazing!

I'd love to help you, Jack, but I don't like putting my CC info on youtube. If you have a mailing address, I'd gladly send a check.
Terry Kath and George Benson were heavily influenced by Wes, tells you a lot about the man:)
Absolutely! Thanks Christine!
