Great video. Most videos don't offer the extra 'tips' and 'tricks' like attaching the string to pull the plastic pipe through. Just brilliant! Many thanks......
Another great video Al. I needed a way of getting a washing machine in & out of a tight space .... your card trick is brilliant, cheap and effective. Thanks again Al for taking the time to share. You're a good man!
@@dereton33yes, Thank you- this is super helpful as I prep for a new machine to be installed- I hadn't realised that I needed to uninstall the (very) old one first!!
Thank you for your informative vid! I literally just watched it and then spent the next hour, uninstalling the old and installing the new! It's so easy, I don't know why I thought it would be such a major job.
Capping off the now unused hot pipe , as you suggest......If you do not have a proper blanking fitting)...I used the nut off the end of the old hot washing machine pipe (hacksawn off the old hot washing machine pipe)....Remove the rubber washer insert a 10 pence piece...reinsert rubber washer and screw on the now redundant hot feed valve...just in-case it gets knocked open. Mine has been fine for ages...you can open the valve with no issues... Nice video AL....
Thank you so much for your tips. I managed to get my old machine out from under the worktop on some cardboard, unplumbed it successfully too, but as I'm only a 4 foot 10 inch, 68 year old female pensioner I was unable to move it into my back garden. Boy was it heavy! Fortunately, my two lovely neighbours did that last bit for me! I was so pleased to be able to have done half the job alone myself though so thanks to you and your excellent video!
Btw, i just recently discovered you can buy floor protecters or furniture sliders which help to lighten the load when pushing heavy furniture or white goods protecting your floor at the same time. There are plastic ones and felt ones depending on what type of floor you have
Super helpful video, you both are a lovely couple had me giggling with your wee jokes to each other. Gonna attempt to install my machine now for the first time, hopefully as smoothly as this!
Hi Al, it would've been worth mentioning to remove the transit bolts from the back of the machine when new! I still forget the bloody things & I've fitted hundreds of machines.😖 Thanks Al.
You should show every single detail including pulling out the plug and putting it in the socket for the electricity supply. Still gave you the thumbs up..👍
Yes I always put a towel under the pipes. The cold pressure can be phenomenal. Also the cupboard is usually FULL of stuff. OLD machines always hold water even after months of storage. Last one I fixed had a blocked waste valve. Yuck! I have a piece of highly polished hard board to put under it. Custom made! Great video!
Great guide thanks. I used a big blue Ikea bag to drag the machine, was a good replacement for cardboard and the handles came in very handy to pull it!
Thank you so much for posting this. It's awesome. Because of the virus. The place we ordered the new machine from isn't installing. My husband's supposed to be disconnecting the old washer and putting the new one in tomorrow. I have a horrible feeling he's overlooked something very important. This has helped a lot. Hopefully it doesn't come down to me doing it. Shudder. But having seen your video. I think it can be done. Even if I have to do it. Thank you very much.
If this fella in his 90's can do it anybody can. Only joking, thanks for the video it's a great help, I will let you know how I get on when I remove my old and install the new one tomorrow.
Two "MagiGLIDE" which are small Teflon coated disks under each front feet , hand inside of the drum and tilt forward slightly and pull straight out. They will save your back and a load of time in the process. They are about a tenner from Amazon and it is what the pro's use to remove appliances in tight spots. They slide easily over any surface and you can reuse than time and time again and on other appliances. I have tried the way you have demonstrated above and one you have to be He-man to pull out a large washer like that and two the chances of your damaging your flooring in some way is highly likely. For the sake of £10 I will stick with the MagiGLIDE disc. To be honest I thought when I saw the title I thought you were going to demo something like these discs as you usually show some kind of innovative way of completing a DIY task that will save, time, money and effort....for me not a patch on some of your other videos.
Great video thankyou very much, need to get a new washing machine today and thanks to the covid all recycling old ones and connecting new ones is suspended
Thank you Sir this was extremely informative. We've just done a trial run to make sure we know what to do when we move in a few weeks and get it cleaned up. Wouldn't have had a clue without this video and using string and cardboard makes so much sense! The cold tap at the sink has been a bit sputtery since reconnecting everything do you know what could be the cause? Also is it necessary to cap off the waste pipe while it's not in use?
Great advice and useful tips. Needed this as I'm about to order a new washer and was 50% sure I could install it myself. I'm now 99% sure but I have a question: My old washer waste pipe was attached to the sink trap, I think that this caused air to come up my sink (right pain when doing dishes, lets the water out), is there anything I can get to prevent this other than a separate waste pipe?
Thank you for this helpful video. The overflow hose is always a good few feet too short. I need to extend it like you have. I used butterfly clips. I can't quite see what you used.
I think the tip about putting a blank cap on the end of the unused hot valve is definitely the right thing to do. I did an identical job the other day, I'm just a DIY man, for a friend. And the 3/4" blank nut and a roll of PTFE tape cost just £2 from Plumbase, well worth it for peace of mind.
I’ve turned the valve off , and wanting to undo the pipe but more than a bit of water is coming out . I had to unplug it straight away because the belt had broken is it. Coming out because there is still water in the washing machine .
I realise this is an old video now, but I have a question about extending the waste pipe with the joiners. Can you provide a link to one of these joiners please. Many thanks for your great videos
I’m getting a new machine delivered in a few days and they are going to get the old one in return. The switch for cutting the water supply is in the basement, and cuts the supply for three additional apartments. So I have to be swift and maybe do it in two parts. My question is; can I disconnect the old one the day before and have nothing connected to the pipes until the new one is ready to be installed with the water going as normal? Since the machine is located in the kitchen it is the equivalent of 240 pounds to get it installed by the company.
I need to get behind mine to plug in a dishwasher (as both plug sockets are behind the washing machine) - is it safe to pull it out while all plumbed in still?
Can you recommend who to get to pull out my washing machine to clean floor underneath pls. Plumber seems a bit drastic. Also there seems to be a problem with incoming water flow as some of it is waste water eg into the machine wash and in the shower. I live in a x3 row terrace. Im the mid one. Any ideas what could be wrong - why us the water sullied? Could it be the plumbing.
Don't push it all the way under the worktop, leave just enough sticking out to put a level on then once level then push the machine back under the worktop.
dereton33, do you have any tips for levelling a washing machine that sits under a countertop? My floor is pretty uneven where the washing machine sits, so if it moves it goes out of level. Also, how are we supposed to level the machine when it is already in position?
You can normally only level the front feet, the back two are fixed, so make sure the floor is level at the back at least, and then adjust the two front feet.
You skipped the bit I wanted to see! I viewed this to see how you slid it in without damaging the floor. When fitting the new one, how did you get the cardboard out from the back feet once it was under the unit?
I just tilted the machine forward, then pulled the back bit of card out, then pushed back ,with the front feet off the floor, pulled the card completely our.
Thankyou so much - I would have never had the confidence to even try doing this if it wasn’t for this video! Spot on :-)
Glad it helped!

There is a blockage in your pipework forcing backflow into the machine. So I would call a plumber.

Yes.
