Taylor's version, basically means, she rerecorded her albums to have her masters, after her previous label basically sold the company with rights to her music, behind her back. And that is a big deal. 80 % from every deal go to whomever owns the rights /the masters to the music, and can use it however they liked to, without any options from the artist.
This song is from her Red's album (vault tracks).
Vault tracks, song written at the time of the album, but didn't make the cut back then. So she make it all available now.
With rerecording we have All too well - 10 minutes original version of the song too, that was cut in half back then.
The Red Album in general is reflection of her relationship with Voldemort(J. Gyllenhaal)

Taylor did know that Scott Borchetta was going to sell the label and with that her masters after failing to buy them back and leaving the label. It was the fact that Scooter Braun bought them that she had no knowledge of. We all know how much of a betrayal that was since Scott knew how much Taylor hated Scooter.

If he would have offered Taylor the same deal he offered Scooter, she would have accepted it. The label's value was in Taylor's masters, as the subsequent resale of these masters to private equity showed.

Taylors Version means she owns it! Idk how much you know about her history with her masters but here is a condensed version:
Taylor was signed with Big Machine, she was one of their very first artists and when everything went down her catalog made up over half of the labels net worth. She had been asking for a few years to buy her masters and they kept telling her no. Her contract was up with BM and she knew she was not going to renew. They told her she could “earn” her masters back, for each old album she wanted to own she would have to put out a new album to gain the rights essentially locking her into producing 6 new albums with the label so she said no thanks and left….not a huge deal until Scott Borchetta the label exec turned around and sold her masters (that she’d been trying to purchase herself) to a guy named Scooter Braun. Scooter is not a good dude at all, at the time he was the manager of Justin Beiber, Demi Lovato, Arianna Grande and Kanye (Taylor’s #1 enemy). In the past Scooter had made some horrible comments about Taylor and all around was just sleezey. So since Taylor owns the writing rights to all of her music and the creative rights to it all she decided to re-record her first 6 albums essentially making the og albums now useless. She has had massive success in this, they have outsold their originals and radio stations have agreed to only play the Taylor’s Versions once she releases them. She’s released 4/6 of the old albums now and has pull all rights for the owner of her original masters to use them in anything commercially so he bought them for nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️
So if when looking at songs and you see one has a Taylor’s Version it’s recommend to react to those so that she gets the recognition and it doesn’t count towards views/listens for her old label!!

This is such a good summary. I'm glad you mentioned that not only she now owns the rights to the rerecords, but that she's using her publishing rights to block the owner of the originals to use them in anything! Boss move!
For @BemusingBill, when Scooter purchased her music he posted something along the lines of owning Taylor Swift, not the music, HER. He and Scott thought they could twist her arm in business by owning her masters, but (before the rerecordings came out) she preferred to lose money by using the publishing rights (as the songwriter) to deny permissions on the use of her songs so Scooter couldn't make money out of them. 💪🏼

@@yezzN02 yes! And one of the biggest ways they tried to manipulate her was before any rerecordings had happened, at the 2019 American Music Awards! Taylor was nominated for artist of the decade and Scott and Scooter tried to tell her she could not perform any of her songs that they “owned” so she called them out of social media. After the public outcry and pouring of support for her they ended up changing their minds and “allowed” her to perform her own songs 🙄

That is incorrect that she doesn’t make anything off of prior music. She still owns the publishing rights(I.e. rights in a musical composition, words, and music) since she wrote the song, which entitles her to royalties on the song itself whenever it is played. What she doesn’t own is the copyright on the Master recordings (I.e. the original sound recording). This is what was sold without her having an opportunity to own the rights to the original recordings. The downside to her is both loss in the portion of royalties upon playing the music that go to the owner of the master recording, but also the loss of control over the use of the master recording. Frankly, I believe for her it is the latter control over it that is as important as anything else to her. Don’t get me wrong she also hates that others are profiting off of her and she can’t earn that money, but it is the control over her own art that is really important whether it ever makes a dime.
You are correct that she makes much less on the original recordings, but it isn’t nothing.
Frankly, not only do the publishing rights still entitle her to some
Royalties off the songs even with the original recordings, it is also because she has the publishing rights that she legally can make the new TV recordings. Many many artists would not have that right because they didn’t write the songs to start with. I think knowing this is also one of the reasons she is also still passionate about promoting artists’ ability to eventually have the opportunity to own their masters.

The label owner, Scott Borchetta, was selling the label and knew she wanted the masters, and he wouldn’t sell them outright, he would only offer her a deal to re-sign with him and earn an album back for each new one she made. She was offended at the notion and kept letting it be known that she wanted the opportunity to buy them outright, but Borchetta sold them to a holding company anyway. When she expressed anger, Borchetta and Braun and Braun’s wife accused her of lying because her father was a shareholder and the shareholders had been informed of the pending sale: the thing was that they also had an NDA, which meant her father couldn’t tell her what he learned in meetings, so he hadn’t been attending them. The whole thing is bad business all around. Scott should have just sold them to her, it was petty not to.

Hi! New sub and Swiftie here🫶 So, this particular song was a Red album’ vault track’, meaning it was written in Taylor’s ‘Red Era’, when she was living and creating the songs that would make up the Red album. This song didn’t make it on the original Red album. When Taylor began the process to re-record her entire discography (after the rights to her originals were sold to her enemy behind her back, by someone she trusted), she decided to release ‘new’ songs with those albums as well, as an incentive to buy the ‘new’ Taylor’s Version albums, and stream only Taylor’s Version songs. This stops the monetary benefit to those who bought her original work, and puts it back in Taylor’s control. She had to re-produce each album, and do so as close to the original versions as she could (years later, mind you) to appease all of us Swifties who own and love the original versions. Taylor is a badass on so many levels. As I said, new sub- so I’m not sure if you’ve reacted to her song ‘All too Well’ or watched the short film she directed years later when the Taylor’s Version was released. This song, “I bet you think about me”, is one of my favorites because after seeing her go through that relationship, and knowing how it hurt her- it’s so nice to see her like she is in this video- on the other side of it, and KNOWING she came out on top. She’s a boss! If you haven’t watched the ‘All too Well’ short film, you must!!!! 🫶🫶🫶

Reason why Taylor is all in red: song was written for her album Red (2012), the newer Taylor's Version meaning she owns the new masters outright. It's about her time with Jake Gyllenhaal, so Stapleton being a feature cements "country" because he was into indie bands and artists (and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was written to be as pop sounding as possible for the same reason). She's added her new pal, Aaron Dessner to the band for the video; and in the end credits, she does a shout out to her buddy Ed Sheeran by drawing an "=" in the cake frosting. That was the title of the album he released back then.

One of my favorite videos of all times. It’s so funny and really shows Taylor’s funny side.
Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds are VERY GOOD friends with Taylor. Their children’s names are used in “Betty”, “August” and “Cardigan” (the love triangle on Folklore). Their children’s names are Betty, Inez and James. Miles Teller and his real life wife, Keileigh, are the bride and groom in the video. She’s also really good friends with them. When Taylor has a girls night out, Blake and Keileigh are usually with her. She has wonderful friends who are very supportive and trustworthy. It’s beautiful. To see the 3 of them do this video together had to be so much fun. Miles Teller has also been a longtime friend of Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. It’s ironic how much they have in common. People, places, etc.
Taylor’s Version: When Taylor’s Master Copy of her first 6 albums were sold from underneath her and behind her back, even when she made it clear that she wanted to purchase them. They were sold to a person that Taylor HATED so she couldn’t just let it go. Taylor said “I wrote them once and can do it again!” So she did. She re-wrote them and put “Taylor’s Version” on them, so that her fans would not give even one more penny to the people (Scooter Braun & Scott Borschetta) who really caused her a lot of pain. She talks about her “stolen lullabies” in “My Tears Ricochet. She thinks of her songs as her “babies” because it’s her life that she’s writing and singing about. When she re-wrote the albums, her fans were right there for her. Only purchasing the copies that SHE owned. There’s still one album that has not been re-recorded yet and that is “Reputation”. No one really knows if it’s coming or not. ❤
Hope that helps! Love your energy. Thank you!! 🎉❤

Taylor was 20 when she was dating Gyllenhaal; reason why a bit of wine makes her tipsy, and why she gets relegated to the children's table (ie., treated like a child). Her 21st birthday (which he skipped to go to a Mumford & Sons concert) is the source for her song The Moment I Knew, and is also described in the 10 minute version of All Too Well.
From the Vault label means she did not release the song on the original album; the new recordings also have included her soundtrack songs, and the single, Ronan, which weren't on the originals. She's done 4 of her original albums, just her debut (Taylor Swift) and Reputation are left. She includes several unreleased songs from the original work on the albums; but since they weren't released before, she lets herself play with the arrangements, modernizing the mix. Or, in this case, stressing the "Nashville" sound.

I can't tell you how many people told me I reminded them of their favorite uncle who used to show them all kinds of music and was just cool to hang with, so I've taken the moniker of Uncle Bill (I do have 11 nieces many with their own families now,so I'm no stranger to the title lol) I hope you get to peruse my channel and check out all the Taylor videos I've done as well as other artists you may like. Check out the latest video of Beth Hart's 'Leave The Light On'. It's much like a Taylor song and is very deep and powerful. Thanks for hanging with me, Jene! ❤️❤️

Some more trivia about Blake & hubby Ryan Reynolds. Taylor is their 3 daughters' godmother & she uses all their names in her song 'Betty'. The girls are James, named after Ryan's dad, Inez & Betty. They just had a son named Olin & I am wondering when he will be famous in a song as well. LOL

Anything that says Taylor’s version was part of her Masters that were taken away from her by the person that tortured her. She had to go and re-record all of her albums and vault tracks. Which I believe this was on the Red album as a vault track. If you get the opportunity you should watch Taylor All too Well Short film that is 😢e wrote, directed and started it it. It is a short film. It is incredibly well done. She re-recorded all her albums except reputation. I don’t know if you have done anything from Folklore, but there is a song about what happened to her in the industry, It’s track 5 called my tears ricochet. One of her best written songs. You should definitely check out!

@@BemusingBill Yes. She is very funny; does not take herself too seriously. Same time, very passionate about her work and business. Every little nuance ties back directly to another lyric from a different song, the audience speculated over. It feels like it is her way of validating and including her fans. She’s giving a “back story”. It’s clever, sure. It’s good for business, absolutely. But, I feel very certain, she does it because she cares. She knows her fans lift her up & she needs us as much as we need her. Her music, thoughts & stories are a vital part of all our lives. We can all relate, in different ways. She’s just, STILL, very much, just relatable. 💜 I love that!

I heard about that. such greed and genuine evil in the business of music. A long time ago, untalented people realized they could be rich by exploiting very talented people so they make these deals where they get the biggest portion of the spoils and the artists get very little. I'm glad she did what she did to take control of her career. Much respect! ❤️

BTW: In case you haven't heard, Taylor is releasing a new album on April 19th called "The Tortured Poets Department" - which you will often see swifties referring to as "TTPD". Everyone making guesses about what type of album it is because she won't say (but I personally expect something like a "sister album" (stylistically) to Midnights, with a bit more folklore/evermore undertones (which I'm saying just cuz the look of the album has a "sophisticated" feel to it.)

@@BemusingBill actually Taylor no longer does singles! She hasn’t since her album Lover, she just drops everything at once without letting anyone know what the album might be like sonically so we go in totally blind not knowing we are getting our hearts ripped out or if we are getting angry/rock type songs 🤣

    • @mirandabee2323
      @mirandabee2323 4 месяца назад

I think that connotation only cropped up in the last 5-10 years. I ask my parents and other people of their generation, and none of them have ever heard of that. Part of me suspects "red means you slept with the groom" was invented on wedding subreddits and r/AITA because people were bored.

    • @CaahAragao
      @CaahAragao 4 месяца назад +2

      hiiiii there
Actually the album from wich this song is from it's called RED! In an interview Taylor said: " I call this album RED because I got the idea initially, because I wrote a song called red and it's about, it kind of correlates all the emotions that I felt during a breakup to colors, like losing him was blue, missing him was dark gray, but it says, you know, the reason you can't forget about it is because loving him was red! Which means: it was bold, it was crazy, it was out of control, it was passionate, it was important, you know!? To me like, the red emotions are the most powerful ones, on the good side and the bad side, you know !? Like affection and infatuation, and love and warmth, and then on the other side you have like, anger, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, you know!? Like all those horrible ones, but I think, you know, no matter what side of it you're on, you're feeling the most amount of emotion you could possibly feel if you're feeling a red emotion! And I've always kind of referred to those those kinds of relationships as red relationships."
But yeah, Taylor it's a very fun person and EVERYTHING she does/writes/sings has double meanings. So problably yes, she must have insinuate that too.
But it's mainly because of the concept of the album.
