Got my nook today. I was concerned about speed and navigation. No problem. The speed of page turning is not an issue when reading. The navigation was easy to adapt to. It is solid and looks good if that matters to you. Most of the little things such as navigation of the shopping site will be easily improved. For reading books, it is great for me. I have almost finished my first book already. I will carry it everywhere.
From an accessibility standpoint, we're expecting the Kindle to blow the competition out of the water with audio-prompted menus & double the current maximum font size next spring, so if you have a vision issue, then the Kindle hands-down if you don't mind the lack of DAISY support.
I had the nook on preorder (due for Jan. delivery) until I read the NYT and WSJ product reviews last week. Cancelled my preorder and decided to wait 6-12 mos. instead. The sluggish controls and slow page-turn rate which NYT & WSJ complained about were certainly evident in your nicely done demo. These drawbacks (esp. 3-4 sec. page-turn rate) were a real deal killer for me. May come back & buy one later, if these things can be fixed.
The Contacts app I think is for the utility that allows you to share books with friends. I think what happens is you can loan a book to a friend for a period of two weeks. It will physically leave your system's memory for that time period.
ralphw3, The page turning flickers, but the page does not flicker once you are on a page, and that is what matters. The screen is VERY clear. Maybe better than some paper pages.
@jazzenth11 A firmware update was just released yesterday that increases the overall performance with the device, including page turning and the lcd screen navigation. They'll be making constant updates to improve performance and usability of the device.
nice video and clear review! But, excuse me, I have a stupid question: does nook work with every pdf file or I can just buy documents from Barnes and Nobel? I mean: can I also read my comics scans or pdf newspaper loaded on the sd card? Let's make it clear for non American costumers...
@ariley0 lol "Dionne" Don't mean to be rude to the reviewer of course but it was amusing that he pronounced "Dean" (Deen) in that way. Overall though it was a decent video showing the Nook.
E-Ink displays always flicker - at least for now. Someday they may not. They use a different technology than regular displays and use practically no juice as they only use it when refreshing the screen. ... The thing your review shows is the lack of responsiveness on the Nook. Several other reviewers said the same thing and it is very distracting during reading. For now, I'll stick with the Kindle which responds quickly. Never see any lag with it. The lag on the Nook would drive me crazy.
seem pretty basic and lethargic to me... wondering how the daily from sony will be??? thx 4 sharing this video with us... it just showed me how right I did on shoosing a ring 4 my christmas present.. jijijiji
Very foolish to do that. You didn't give it a chance and based on other people's reviews. I got one and I am love with it. It is not as sluggish as you may think. I was expecting it to have horrid response time but it doesn't. I am so thankful I gave it a chance. bye bye Kindle

I'm not too impressed with the load times, but would you recommend the Nook, or the Kindle?
Great videos like always!

Noooooookkkkkkk! I've never hear about this stuff if it wasn't for mobilitysite. Have you done the n900 yet? looking forward to that.
is the touch screen capacitive or resistive?
nice video, this looks cool!
You don't think he's saying "DR Koontz" which is the author's initials and last name?

"Dione" -- love it. There were several reasons to believe this person is not a reader and probably should not be doing this review. LOL.
Alright, I'll look more into it, Thanks anyway =)
