I was ready to give up on Vectornator 'coz I'm too stupid to figure things out on my own, but this was SUPER helpful, so I'm charging my Apple Pen now so I can explore the app more. Thank you so much!
I’ve watched a bunch of videos before this one on using the pen tool. This was hands down the best. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this.
Wow, great, I have been trying to find such tutorial of how to draw curve and shape like this, but most tutorial is more focusing on drawing free curve and painting. Thank you for lighting my weekend so I can make the graph that I need for my presentation.
Excellent tutorial. I am dedicating time each day to work on Vectornator. So different from 3D design. I would also like to get the tutorial files to practice if possible. Thanks for making my training time well spent,
Great idea Fred and thank you for asking! I added the link below the video description as an SVG file that is compatible with Vectornator. Do tell me if it works on your end. Thank you for your feedback! 😀👋
Melissa, great question. If it comes to a corner then you look to balance both control handles same as if you have a semi circle. As for the random paths, its all about the smoothness of the curve and that you accomplish with dragging the handles. I have certain Pen tool videos up on the channel, hope this helps. 😀👋
thank you so much for this! however I do have a query. so when I unselect the path, the entire path disappears but it's still there since it appears again while being selected, what am I doing wrong?
complete newb here. After practicing this for a while now, I must have a setting off somewhere because my pen doesn't have one line coming out of the anchor point, it has two...and my curve is not coming out the same. Obviously operator error but could you please give me an idea of what I might have wrong? thanks!
E Russ Well what comes to mind perhaps that you need to tap and drag. If you don't drag there will be no control handle, otherwise, it's there. Also look at your Stroke settings, if no stroke color that might be deceiving you. All these speculations of course but if you are still stuck ping me again. Thank you! 😀
Inside the Document Settings, up in the the top left corner, tap on the Gear icon, tap on the Snapping options, make sure Smart Guides are toggled ON. Inside your canvas use the Pen tool to draw two (2) straight points which means just two (2) taps and if you want align them use the Node tool and since the Smart Guides are ON, that will snap into place. Hope this helps, thank you! 😀👋
Thanks for posting this Elias. Soooo, on the last 2 exercises, could one duplicate the path, flip horizontaly and then join paths? This is crucial for the kind of tracing I want to do.
So I have the move, transform, lasso, brush, eraser and some others I believe it should be where the brush is but when I hold or double tap it only gives me brushes to choose from
BA Hi there! To close a path, select them and inside the Path Inspector use the Join command. You can remove an anchor point by either using the Node tool, selecting a node and remove it or use the Scissors tool. I am covering these in many of my tutorials, check out the latest ones since they are more recently recorded. Hope this helps you. 😀
Elias Sarantopoulos I checked the “join” option but that tab in my new iPad Pro is not clickable. I have the tab but cannot activate it . Not sure what step is missing .
Hey, is there an option to change the width of the line in some places? Like for example, at the start and at the end, the line would be thin, but in the middle it would be thicker. I like this feature in the Illustrator. Thank you!
You are so very kind Mr. Arias, much appreciated! I have added a link below the video description as an SVG file, you can open it inside Vectornator as well as Illustrator, or Affinity Designer. Hope this helps, let me know if I can be of any other assistance to you. 🙏😀

The pen tool is never the easiest to work with and my experience is the case everywhere. On a desktop or a laptop computer, we have the ability to use the Alt key in conjunction with the Shift key to constrain the motion. Inside the tablets to replace those two, we rely on gestures and in this case multiple gestures and that goes for every app out there. Thank you! 😃
