Not going to lie, Carrie was a total (you know what) at times. Yeah, Doug was an idiot and lied a lot, but Carrie was a bit disrespectful. She didn’t consider Doug’s input, when hiring the maid. They even made jokes about him together in Spanish (total disrespect) and she even Did it because “she made more money” .. but let’s not forget that they didn’t have money for the mold problem because Doug’s dad went through their finances and realized Carrie was spending the majority of the money on shopping and had the nerve to tell his dad to “go to hell”. Oh, let’s not forget the “Bun” episode where Doug tried to tell her that he didn’t like the hair bun and she refused to take it out. Yet, when Deacon said it was ugly, she took it down with no hesitation. When Doug confronted her about it, she totally disregarded his feelings. Better yet, let’s not forget when Doug finally started to take his health seriously and Carrie got jealous from all the attention and tried to sabotage his diet. Last but not least, when she got mad at her dad for supposedly sabotaging her interview at the law firm (she ended up getting the job, btw) spoke terribly to her father, the father went to live with Holly (to try to “go back in time to make things right”), instead of HER going to see her father and apologize, she sends Doug to clean up her mess. I would’ve BEEN divorced Carrie a long time ago.
I have to agree with about 96% with your viewpoint. They're both screwed up and they deserve each other. Doug's parents spoiled him and Carrie's dad pretty much did her rotten in her formative years, even before she lost her mom. Because of Doug's laziness and lack of business sense, Carrie had to take care of everything in the household. She had goals and dreams of a better life (Manhattan), Doug cared for the basics (beautiful wife, good friends, good job, nice home). One point regarding the mold incident. At the time, even though Carrie admitted that she overspent on her clothing. Her Father-in-law HAD NO RIGHT to go into her closet looking at her wardrobe and telling Doug to put her on a budget. Considering that he was told about water leak years earlier by the home inspector, which is what led to the mold issue, which was not going to be covered by their insurance (pre-existing problem), which led Doug to ask his father for a loan for the mold removal repair and remediation.
