    I was the roof operator there for 7 years. Those panels are designed to rip off like that if winds are extremely strong to prevent major damage. However, there isn't any tarp just laying around. It takes months to put that amount of fabric together, and get it shipped here.

    The Texans will host the Rams at NRG Stadium this Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm local time. You can feel the difference not only in the stands at the south end of the stadium, but on the field as well, where the air conditioning is impacted by the open slats. There's also the annual National Battle of the Bands contest featuring several HBCU marching bands taking place next Sunday night.
    There were three smaller sections of the roof which were damaged across two of the strips, hence the entire strips were removed so it's not like the entire width suffered damage. Also, he company which manufactured the original panels over 20 years ago is out of business, so that's why it's taking a little longer to get the roof repaired.

    NRG Stadium is a Rodeo stadium that doubles as a football stadium. Just like the Astrodome, it is a multi-use stadium. However, the Rodeo has more dates therefore it brings in more income than the NFL season does.

    • @Dgem08
      @Dgem08 Месяц назад +1

      I doubt a RODEO brings in more money total then a NFL game

    • @williamgray8499
      @williamgray8499 Месяц назад +2

      @@Dgem08 If you don't count tv money. Rodeo includes big name entertainment stars and groups. I'm too old now to know who they are now days. In the past, at the Astrodome, they had Elvis Presley, etc. A good NFL season will bring in 10 -12 games. The rodeo here will last 3 weeks. So, the stadium will be filled for 18 nights to see both rodeo and entertainment. NRG was designed with both in mind. The Fatstock show also brings in a lot of additional revenue, but they use the nearby buildings adjacent to NRG. You are correct that rodeo by itself, is probably like minor league baseball. Tickets to NRG for its peculiar mix of rodeo/entertainment are at least as expensive as going to see the Texans play. The reason I brought it up at all is it's a unique setting.

    • @chrisaguirre5988
      @chrisaguirre5988 Месяц назад +1

      @@Dgem08 The Rodeo as a whole, if you count everything the livestock show, convention space, carnival, and BBQ competition brings in millions of visitors a year. The 2024 Rodeo had 2.25 million attendees. If you count ticket sales, revenue form the carnival, food vendors, vendor space fees, merchandising, and advertising revenue it comes up to almost 200m in revenue (192m in 2023). By comparison the Texans make about 600m a year. Keep in mind the revenue form the rodeo doesn't include revenue from vendors which is even more. Overall it's not a small amount to scoff at and it's completely understandable why the Texans partnered with the Rodeo to build the retractable roof to begin with. The roof only exists because the Rodeo needed it for it's audio equipment for the concerts. They essentially paid to install it, iirc it was 21m out of pocket.

      On November 22, 2020, something historic happened at NRG stadium - the Texans opened the roof for a home game. Before that, it had been six years since crews had rolled back the top of NRG for the Texans. The team claims keeping the roof closed helps with crowd noise, deafening their opponent into submission, allegedly. But the team record proves otherwise. It was suppose to open for the Chiefs game in 2022 but it failed to open

    • @retrowarehouse2554
      @retrowarehouse2554 Месяц назад

      Um, retractable roofs are super expensive, way more expensive than fixed roofs. That's why most teams have built their domes as fixed roofs over retractable stadiums. I prefer retractable stadiums so you can let the sun light in more, but now a lot of domes use translucent roofs to let natural light into the stadium.

    We were at NRG last week for the Luke Combs concert. This was an evening/night event. Let me tell you, it was humid as hell in that stadium. I told my girlfriend Damm the owner needs to stop being stingy with the AC. Then when I looked up I remembered the hole in the roof. I legit felt the AC towards the end of the concert. It was an uncomfortable hot in there. I mean if you're buying the $11 dollar beer you have to drink it even faster now. Then walking out in the crowd and in the Texas humidity, everyone was complaining how hot it was in and outside the stadium.
    But in my opinion I would skip the Texans games and wait till that roof is fixed. Or at least a cold front coming in. It's not worth paying over $800 for 2 tickets to be sweating. I also come from the Alamodome so I am kind of spoiled from UTSA football.
