Glad you like it, brother! I saw Neurosis in 1996, but have unfortunately missed them on every tour since then. This video is the next best thing, though. :)
+Chris Alfano Me, too. Caught them in Cleveland with Integrity, Eyehategod, and Warzone. All but 2 of the 'Through Silver In Blood' songs. Such an epic night.
"What are you listening ?" "Neurosis" "What kind of music is that ?" "I'ts a metal--sludge-postcore-drone-stoner-psychedelic-extreme avant-garde experimental band with punk and folks elements in it" "Well.....okey"
gotta love bands that just make the music they enjoy making without worrying about staying the same genre. Love how this band actually is aware of dynamics and uses them well. got some Somali Yacht Club vibes from them.
Love how the drummer in this band is so economical in his movement that even when he's doing really complicated stuff he looks like he's playing in slow motion.
jneiner I can’t agree anymore! It drives me bonkers when I see drummers be extremely sloppy and basically testosterone fueled Neanderthal like basically when they have their hands well above their heads trying to beat the shit out of the drums when it just isn’t needed to get a “big” sound out of the drums.
+DGUSA evolve As poor as the VHS audio quality is, that official 1999 live video is my favorite. But that Through Silver in Blood on this one is fucking monolithic!
Saw them at Brutal Assault in the Czech Republic. They played Lost as their first song, then Locust Star. These two tracks alone fucking struck me so fucking hard. Awesome
This gave me goosebumps watching, high. I haven't had these goosebumps since Maynard from Tool way in his early days and Crowbar. So good. Whoever recorded this, amazing quality, superb audio. Thank you so much. This is surreal, it's almost if all of them are losing their minds while playing
In the mid ninetees they were in town with their Through silver in blood tour and after the gig they were outside, standing with everyone around a big bon fire....drumming...that was so cool.
Seeing these guys live is a cross between a concert and a ritualistic, spiritual experience that burrows into the deep recesses of your mind and stays there for a long time. This live mastering of Through Silver in Blood is the best quality live video I've seen on RUclips and the closest to experiencing the power in person, which cannot be topped. I wish they would tour around here more, I would be at every show.
I saw them in Vancouver in December 2016. Apparently the last time they were in Vancouver was 18 years before that. I am so glad I went to the concert. It was amazing.
I found it really interesting how after Neurosis lost thier member who managed the visual aspects of thier shows that for so long were so important they went full, stark and bleak lighting. Such an interesting response to not having what used to be a very complex visual set to the opposite, but with an equal weight. They have such dedication and put such thought into how thier live performance is seen.
I saw an interview where they said they did it cause by that point everyone was used to having screens in their faces all the time so they went in the opposite direction. Changing with the times and evolving is one of the reasons I love this band.
I love how he is often playing thing the same thing for long periods of time, perfectly. And the beats are just different enough to be interesting without taking too much from the rest of the sound.
Holy fuck, nearing the end of Though Silver in Blood when Scott is literally SCREAMING into the microphone and Dave is in the back fucking yanking the strings off his bass like loose threads. I only wish the bass was a little more audible in this recording.
I can hear the Mastodon in this, especially leviathan, Neurosis is one of Mastodon's biggest influences, Scott Kelly features on almost every album too, awesome...
First time i've seen Neurosis... was in London... 2003... i was in collège... at the age of 14... : NEUROSIS x JARBOE ! More than 2h30 of Show...cold war chaos, destruction, apocalypse, evil, epic and heaviest sound that i've never heard before... AMAZING... i'll never forget this show... révélation... yet, i've seen this band a lot... more than 10 times... best live experience of my life with Tool and Sunn
Thank you Neurosis, you guys have saved my soul when i needed digging out of the mud of existance again & again... in my darkest times you always bring the light. Shine on you crazy diamonds, Thank you for your Truth🙏🏼
The more I've listened to their music, the more I've learned to understand what they are expressing with it. I'd say it's a combination of suffering and a will to transcend it. It's quite intense, emotional and coming from deep down. Listening to it is mentally exhausting but purifying at the same time. Heart-wrenching and horrific but beautiful and loving. And that's the human experience for ya
Thanks for explaining it. I'm brand new to hearing this, and it sounds like they're coming from a very painful place but I missed their will to overcome it.
It's also reflective of the absolute hell he put his family through with the abuse this piece of shit excuse for a human put his children and wife through.
@@NecumNaTo I'm not trying to be deep, just saying what I hear in the music and how I align myself to it. If you're so much above of what I'm saying then say yourself how you are hearing and interpreting the music
I had a chance to see these guys a few years ago, in my twenties. It was between them and Cannibal Corpse - and at the time I was a fan of neither band. I ended up going to the Cannibal Corpse concert because I was working that night; man, do I regret that decision. Neurosis has become one of my favorite bands, almost overnight. I could've seen them! I should've seen them!
59:16 those are some moves right there. At one of their shows during this tour I happened to catch I think Kelly’s guitar pick as it just landed in my folded arms. Kinda weird thinking about that now and after hearing the news.
I haven't seen Neurosis live yet although I've been listening them for years. I've watched this video countless times and still watching. Thanks for the upload. RUclips serves well to humankind in this manner.
I remember vividly my first ever show (concert) was Ozzfest 1996. Neurosis was the 2nd band to take the stage. At the time I had no clue what to make of them. I was honestly there to see Fear Factory, Danzig(whom at the time had just fired Eerie and John Christ even though his new band was excellent minus the guitar solos), Sepultura (with Max and Igor at the time) Slayer and Ozzy. I truly believe in such a huge out door arena a lot of the subtleties Neurosis executes so well (ntm very originally) kinda got lost in the non existent acoustics of such a huge venue.
Is there anything worse than falling into that amazing trance that only Neurosis can provide... Watching your video. Eyes closed. Bobbing your head, really feeling it, the repetitive beauty and all of the subtlety that comes with the samples and effects from Noah. A culmination of decades of song writing experience from a group of terrific musicians. And you're anticipating an explosion of guitars, the apex! Holy shit, the raw power of Neurosis! But! Just before that comes the most hideously obnoxious soundtrack and yammering talking head of a RUclips ad ripping you visiously out of your lovely moment. Fuck. It's like waking from the most truly unreal and perfect sex dream of your life to a call from your landlord at 7 AM concerning something irrelevant and meaningless like they'll be painting your mailbox in a week.
No stage show whatsoever. They’re standing fairly still on a brightly lit stage with a barebones arrangement, wearing the clothes they were just wearing that day, and it’s still absolutely mesmerizing. These dudes are intense.
There's actually lore behind that. Neurosis used to have dynamic lights and elaborate projections behind them, but their lighting guy passed away so they started doing shows lile this to commemorate and grieve his absence.
After listening to mostly Brann Dailor, Danny Carey, Mario Duplantier and the sort... Jason Roeder is a complete breath of fresh air. I’m sure he could rip off some gnarly fast fills but he serves the song first.
I saw this tour exactly a week before in Louisville KY, we just got Stones From the Sky added between My Heart and Times for 10 songs. This is a great record of this tour tho. I shot a lot of videos of that night and need to upload them sometime since they were my almost 10 year old daughter's first show. It isn't anything close to the full gig like this tho. Well done and thank you!

thie mix is crap. Can you even hear the bass? Why are the guitars so muddy? And Noah's keys fade in and out.
Best recorded version of Through Silver In Blood to date. Fucking immense.

First time a I saw these dudes they had Faces of Death playing in the background the whole time.
6:19 best scream ever. Sorry Scott, Steve, and Dave but, you've been outdone.
the drummer has the most subtle fills
I love how he is often playing thing the same thing for long periods of time, perfectly. And the beats are just different enough to be interesting without taking too much from the rest of the sound.
Yeah, he’s a master class in tasteful, soulful drumming. Too many “metal” drummers overdo it.

The bass guy should have way more vocal parts, that man is a beast!
+Dropdead if you haven't already, listen to the first 2 albums, his Pain of Mind & Word As Law vocals are more prominent, and amazing also

What kind of bread? I'm sensing maybe a marbled rye or pumpernickel.
the most brutal man on the tiniest keyboard known to man
Playing keyboards for a sludge metal band wearing a joy division tshirt. guy knows whats up/
So beautiful to see opening with a sun that Never sets
I love when the bass player rips his lowest string off like it's a piece of thread
Holy shit, Times of Grace is so epic
Lachlan Blair in my opinion their best album! Though they also have some other greats but people tend to debate me on this heavily.
Damn these guys are great. Here after seeing the recent bar gig this dude did with Mastodon.
