    Installed a Torque converter on the Coleman CT200U minibike 196cc. Did some speed test to see which was faster the torque converter or jackshaft.

    So I used this video as a reference for modifying my own ct200u with a series 30 tav. I ordered everything that was listed on the description for this video. Firstly, the 5/8 to 3/4 shaft adapter may work for some people but it certainly didn’t work for me. I assume it’s just shoddy manufacturing. Some work, some don’t. Luckily I had a spare predator 212 laying around so I just swapped the engine over to make the tav work. Secondly, the tav itself is good but very very finicky. It required a lot of adjustments to make it work well. The driven pulley for instance is way too close to the chain out of the box. I ended up adding a washer to space the pulley away from the chain a few millimeters. MAKE SURE to do this because your chain WILL get caught on the pulley and instantly ruin your day. For those of you that have watched further in this series, you’ll see him changing out the rear sprocket to a 40t. I did the same and I’m not sure how to feel about it yet. The speed is definitely nice but the moment you hit a slight incline, you can feel the tav trying it’s best to grip but mine ended up smoking after a 15 minute ride. It heated up the tav unit so much that the brass washer that the belt rides on expanded and got stuck on the shaft. If I didn’t catch it soon enough, I feel like I would’ve destroyed the belt. I’m going to try using some graphite lube around the washer and see if the reduction in friction will resolve the problem.
    All in all, great video, good mod but be prepared to put in a few hours of work to get it perfect. I’ve taken my bike out for a few rides and I still have a lot of adjusting to do. Hope this was helpful to anyone else who’s looking to try this out themselves!

    • @nathanialhulsey6900
      @nathanialhulsey6900 2 года назад

      hey I'm just wondering how much top speed did you pick up with the 40 tooth sprocket? and did you loose a lot of low end torque to where it's easier to switch to a straight chain? also we haven't been running the brass bushing for a little over a yr without any problems since we shredded a belt because the brass bushing snapped

    • @raveenrichie5734
      @raveenrichie5734 2 года назад

      @@nathanialhulsey6900 I can’t say how much speed the 40t added because I never tested the tav with the original sprocket. I’m guessing it would be around 8 or 9mph. I’m certain there’s a equation out there for figuring out speed. As for torque, I probably lost a little compared to the stock jackshaft but not a whole lot. You only really notice it on hills. I definitely wouldn’t do a straight chain because that will absolutely kill your torque and take forever to get up to speed even on a flat surface. Bushing hasn’t snapped for me yet but I’ll definitely keep that in mind!

    • @Deucealive75
      @Deucealive75 Год назад +2

      @@raveenrichie5734 After I watched this video I was wondering what he would get with the stock 50 tooth or even the 60 tooth. I would bet that he would get higher than 43 with a 60 tooth. With the 40 tooth his engine never made it to 3000 RPM. The engine never even got to its better power potential to drive the load at a higher RPM. With a stage 1 kit there's more power available at 4000 RPM than there is at 3000 RPM.

    • @WhiskersTheFish
      @WhiskersTheFish Год назад

      @@Deucealive75 I know this is an older video, but with my own experience I actually lost top speed with the 40 tooth and torque converter. 60 tooth rear is actually too torquey for me, very sensitive and takes off extremely fast. The stock 50 tooth rear is perfect for the torque converter in my opinion. I have personally hit 55mph with the 50 tooth rear sprocket and 30 series torque converter. I have seen people get over 60 mph though with upgraded engines.

    • @Deucealive75
      @Deucealive75 8 месяцев назад

      @@WhiskersTheFish If you are getting 55 with a near stock engine and the 50 tooth you are much faster than the norm. For years just about everyone was getting 35 to low 40's with a torque converter and stock gearing with mainly stock engines.
      Years ago while waiting on parts I installed a 100% stock 196 with a torque converter and stock gearing. Performance was laughably pathetic and couldn't have gotten to more than 35 mph. I guess if I held it for another 30 seconds it may have got to 37. haha.
      I have two of these bikes with torque converters. One with 8/50 sprockets and the other with 9/60. With a mild built 196 and 9/60 sprockets there is better acceleration and top speed than with 8/50 gearing. It would be an under 4K RPM bike with stock gearing and less overall performance. I get 4500 RPM belt shifts at full throttle with my current gearing with yellow driven springs on both bikes. Wouldn't get anywhere near that with stock gearing and a red spring.

    hey, do you think that motor mount plate could be used to mount a 196 w/TAV into a mega moto 80/105 frame?
    I'm thinking of getting one of these frames and want the cleanest way to mount a bigger motor while hopefully keeping the fuel tank mounted onto the motor instead of moving it to the frame

    • @Black66
      @Black66  2 года назад

      Possibly . As long as there is room under the frame rails after adding the riser mount . On a Predator with the mount it stands about 14 inches tall . If there is more than 14 inches in that frame , it should fit .

    If you really want to improve on speed, find an 11 tooth c sprocket for the jackshaft that fits the 420 chain like I did and you can hit 50mph. I have a 7.27.1 ratio. 10 on clutch,20 on jackshaft input and 11 tooth output to 40 rear.

      His slid on no problem in the video. Joking aside a lot of guys have had problems with this. In one video a guy smacked the fixed sheave on with a hammer. Bashed it all up.
      Those are 5/8 to 3/4. The Hisun crankshaft is 16mm which is larger than 5/8. When you put it on it expands a touch making it difficult to slide on the fixed sheave.
      I would never use one. When I built my Hisun196 it got a 3/4 crankshaft during the build.
