    I wouldn't worry about it because it's not broke in yet & temps have a huge effect plus they add detergents at the refineries for Winter too. ( Winter mix ) Things will improve in a few months either way as it warms up in a diesel. LOVE how mine goes in the snow. We got 15 inches up here in Northern NV a few days ago & it was a great test. BEAST MODE is all I can say, seen people wiping out everywhere like you showed in the clip. Not me. 😂

      Even the transmission and diff have to break in for a while. It's also lifted, has less aerodynamic features, and rolling on knobby tires that all hurt fuel economy.

    It might be better to put the additive in the tank before adding the fuel. It will help the additive mix with the fuel rather than floating on top. Just a thought. Enjoy you videos.

    I’ve got a 2023 trailboss with the 3.0 and I get 24 pretty consistently if I’m running mostly highway I’m getting 25 and 22-23 in the winter if I idle a lot but I always keep a fuel treatment in my fuel at all times of course in the winter it’s anti gel and all other seasons it’s injector cleaner lube and cetane booster from Amsoil

    I did a 4700 mile trip from Idaho to Wisconsin to Arkansas to Oklahoma and then back to Idaho over my kids Christmas break. Averaged 25mpg right on the dot. About half the miles were run at 75mph, the other half at 85mph, and of of course the miscellaneous toodling around while we were in each state visiting family. Worst fill up was 21mph and the tank of fuel prior was used up with a lot of start and stop and short trips. Best tank of fuel was 28mpg.
    This was in a 2024 1500 z71 with the rst with the LZ0 engine. Pickup had 2 adults, 3 kids, all of our clothes and toiletries, extra washer fluid, extra def, extra tools for any unforeseen roadside issues we might’ve encountered, gifts for family members in the states we were going to. If I had to guess the pickup was probably packing around 750lbs. I was tickled with the fuel economy with everything considered. But I will say my pickup consistently gets worse fuel mileage then my buddy’s pickup which is basically identical with the exception that he has the LM2 Engine. Not sure what GM changed, but definitely something.

    Those mileage numbers are great! I had a MY23 Silverado ZR2 with the 6.2, an S&B CAI, and an AWE exhaust. It's the tires and lift that hurt the mileage on the ZR2, (but otherwise make the ZR2 package so awesome.) I would get between 14mpg and 16mpg, maybe low 17's mpg at most on a long drive. Those were numbers on the dash.

    • @freidrichnietzsche6643
      @freidrichnietzsche6643 5 месяцев назад

      exactly. It's the height of the lift that gets the vehicle off of the ground (assuming gearing isn't too wacked out re: tire size) that really kills mileage. I did a fun experiment with my '16 ltz on King coilovers and I lost 2-3mpg highway when the coilovers were run up (truck lifted) than when they were set low (where they stayed). FWIW. This is on 35's with 6.2 & factory gearing @ 3.23.
      I really want to love this duramax but the 6.2 L86 is such a good unit. GM is also currently (March '24) charging nearly 2k more on some trims for the 6.2 than they are the 3.0. Odd.
      Also, regarding the ZR2 platform. a couple of wishes:
      - I really wish they would give the option for a Standard Bed length instead of the short box. Really isn't much room in those little boxes.
      - I'd like to see the LTZ's and High Country's come with the ability to option-up with the ZR2 hardware (lockers, skids, lift, etc). I'd throw my damn money at them then. 🤑

    The LM2 i had would lose an easy 10+% when winter blend came in around November and as soon as straight #2 came back in the spring it would jump right back up. Around here winter blend varied by station but most of them would use a decent amount of #1 in the blend which would explain the drop im mpg.

    I noticed since buying my LZ0 this past March, that my fuel mileage is down now a bit since the cold set in here in Chicago. I’d say 10-20%. I’ve purchased a FIA from winter cover that I’ll install in the coming days and see if it gets better. But not unusual for lower mileage in winter.

    • @hammer-r
      @hammer-r 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@3.0dmax just a thought based on the lower fuel mileage. Seems to run colder and take way longer to heat up even with the shutters. It’s a cheap experiment on my part to see if the FIA winter cover will help seal it up and allow it to run better in its designed temp range. If you look at the shutters, it’s not air tight at all. The front cover I’m adding, seems to cover better. Again it’s an experiment to see if it improves temp control and helps the engine get warmer faster and keep the heat better in winter driving.

    As soon as it gets colder and doing more idling, driving on snow packed roads, drive line oils thicken up, probably using four wheel drive and so on, fuel mileage goes absolutely down the toilet on a lot of vehicles, a gas equivalent truck like yours would no doubt get crap for mileage in comparison as gas engines use a lot more fuel idling than a diesel. Even if you were in summer conditions, the fact that this truck has the larger and more aggressive tires with higher rolling resistance along with a lift creating more air drag it never will do as well on fuel but I don't need to tell you that as your already well aware of the negatives of lifts and larger tires. I am curious what it would do though compared to the 3.73 gears that sadly were not an option.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  7 месяцев назад +1

      You are correct ! The 3.73's would be a help and I know that because I had these wheels/tires on the high country with a lift. I got 23/24 mpg in that truck with the Bilstein shooks lifted about 1.5"

      @charlesb4267 7 месяцев назад

      @@DemonWorks I must have been asleep !, or more likely busy last summer/fall with harvest and youtube videos are not a priority at that point. So its very interesting indeed as it would have matched up pretty close to this truck, other than that that better gearing. I have to wonder if there is a GM engineer hitting his head on his desk wondering why his superiors didn't listen to him and offer proper gearing as an option if not standard.

    It seems that these trucks when you lift them, they definitely have a substantial loss of MPG.
    I have a 23 GMC at4. And before I did a leveling kit. On the highway doing 75 mph. My MPG would fluctuate on an hourly basis. Trip A my average 27 mi to the gallon on the gauge. Next trip being the same exact trip I might get 21 mpg. And I've seen as high as 31 these same trips mentioned.
    Post leveling kit doing 75. I've never seen higher than 25 mi per gallon on the same trip. Did the trip today and I averaged 19.. how many were between 19 and 25 now. When previously I was between 21 and 31.
    Also have a high idle issue. Maybe someone else has the same thing. My truck seems to idle a lot at 900 RPMs. I know when Regen is taking place it does idle higher but this is not regen as it's happening every 20 minutes or so. And if I put the truck in neutral and then back into gear it will drop Right back to 600 RPMs. And then maybe 20 minutes later it'll go right back up to 900 RPMs.
    I just took it to the dealer for that as well as a bunch of other concerns I have and they did absolutely nothing and said absolutely nothing was wrong with my truck.
    I know this is getting winded at this point. They've even told me, there are no software updates for the LZ0.
    I received this truck in January of 23 and it has never had an update come available. Yet on your channel I believe you've mentioned two, maybe three calibration updates that the dealer has done?

    4k miles on my 24 AT4...cannot get over 23MPG, even with the non MT tire package. 23 LTZ got 24-30MPG all day long. I am thinking it's the lift. Because that's about the only difference. I do wonder if this new model year has different tuning for emissions purposes. The 24 has consumed no oil and regens about every 350 miles.
