The French carmakers used to make wonderful and affordable cars everyone loved. it will be a long time before they get back to that standard. Meanwhile they think taxing the competition will help them survive. it will not. Great products people actually want will.
That was really good to watch. I think it says a lot about how some brands (Renault, Citroen, Alfa, BMW) are going back to their roots in an effort to combat the hoardes of Chinese clones that are/will be descending on the continent over the next few years. I think anyone can produce a reletively interesting 'machine' that gets you from A-B, but creating something with soul is a lot more difficult. Great vid - good stuff!

Hi 👋 im viewing from New Zealand. The Volkswagon stand has an old VW Golf on show. I remember visiting a car show here back in 1974. They were brand new then , and on display. Thats fifty years ago now.
Used to go to the Paris motor show every two years between 2010 and 2016, loved visting Paris, get a cheap flight over. All stopped when most of the major manufacturers started to pull out. Might think about going again, will have to be 2026 now.

Interesting video. Its good to see a car channel covering this instead of the usual walk & talk car reviews made at these events. You are right about SUV's they all look the same these days, they have become to big for the minor UK road network, and tend to be driven by people that cant do reverse or stay on the correct side of the road.
Good video. I personally think Peugeot are producing some great looking cars these days. Indeed I like what all the French manufacturers are up to. A shame there isn't a ICE option on the Renault 5 IMO.

The Id2 Gti looks the business. The new Mini Cooper and Renualt 5 looked lovely in the metal at Everything electric south. Lovely to see some desirable smaller EV’s on the horizon.
Great walkaround. Dacias may not be exciting, but they offer terrific value. Just checked, Jogger Extreme Hybrid (top spec model), which is a proper 7 seater and has heated seats, wireless carplay etc. lists at £23995. Entry level Ford Puma (Ford's cheapest car) is just over £26k!

Nice video. I totally agree about the ID3, it just doesn't excite but that ID GTI concept looks great. Congratulations to the Hongoi Guoya for being even uglier than modern Rollers are. I was lucky enough to have the Ferrari 328 GTS from 2000-2006. People always said it was the Magnum car to me but of course as you said the 308 GTS was. I used to love it and it wasn't that bad running costs wise (some very good independent Ferrari specialists out there).

The car is not "horrible". It is an acquired taste. It takes a while for you to "get it". But when you do, you will start to appreciate it more. Its so weird it becomes cool. Renault are getting brilliant designs by looking back. The R5 & R4 with it's open roof. Twingo with it's super cute designs. They don't have any dodgy "Crappri" design. Peugeot are starting to look very left behind, whilst they are actually still good looking cars.
I had youtube "Paris Motor Show" to find some coverage, but maybe that's because it's early. I highly doubt there's a return on investment for many brands on display here, which is partly why autoshows are slowly dying. But thanks for the video.

VW is in big trouble as are all European carmakers right now . The boss said they’ve got 2 years unless they make big changes like lay off workers or shut factories . If the ID2 isn’t a success that’s the end of them . Audi is the worst performing as its sales in China have virtually been wiped out and VW is thinking of debadging them as China isn’t interested !

The boss is trying to deliver profit to shareholders as if he decides to sacrifice margin they will appoint a new boss. Closing factories etc is not always because they can’t afford not to, it’s that they want to keep earning the same amount.

Great review of show but 80% of these cars all look the same. Take the badges off- most people would struggle to identify them. As the majority of the components in European cars seem to be made in China,why not cut costs and make all the cars in the same factory, then apply the various badges for the different “makes” when they reach the dealerships?
In my opinion, Chinese automakers are leading the electric vehicle heat wave. European and American automakers are trying to catch up with the Chinese while the Japanese stay in their comfort zones.
Most of the cars you're showing are electric. How about showing something with a bit of passion with an engine Something that people will buy and not landfills.
Couldn’t disagree more with your statement. The cyber truck is hideous and Tesla deserves to go bankrupt over it. It is the hummer of the Mid-2000 - utterly useless and an eyesore that pollutes our roads. Wedges are for kids in geometry class, not for adult men with any sense of style.
I used to enthuse about new cars but since they all went electric, it is like going to curry's for a new fridge, not interested any more, like a boring white good. No character, just like each and every other make, a battery, an electric motor, which is the same as any other electric motor, surrounded by a metal cage - tedious and dull ! That is why I have no desire to buy a new one. I have ice cars that are much better in every way.
If your French is poor, why didn't you use Google translate? Take a picture of the text and it will give you a translation immediately or if editing add the detail after.
Because I was busy, on site for 7am, self shooting for 5 hours, then editing those hours of footage, making a thumbnail and uploading an almost one hour video before 3pm in the hope that it’s still relevant by the time it goes live. Hope that helps. Maybe go watch WhatCar or something.
Most of the Ligier cars are made to be driven without a licence. The market is quite large because it's complicated to get your licence in France and you can't drive by yourself by whatever method you choose until you're 18, and then it's restricted for a year Consequently, lot of 16-18 year olds have them and people who have lost their license of course (although fairly recently they introduced a 1 day training program you must pass so they aren't entirely without licence anymore.) They have tiny engines (typically about 300cc) and are limited to 48kph so you can't drive them on motorways. They make a terrible noise, are very underpowered and cost at least €15,000. They are quite decent looking inside but they usually don't have things like airbags. They aren't legally obliged to crash test them either although I think Ligier do.

Yeah, I think they’re the best looking Peugeot’s ever but the overall li who is missing a few wows. The pricing is sky high given engine lineup too.

The show was absolutely packed from mid morning and it was only the press say so I have to disagree.

This was an extremely busy show with plenty of great brands around and just a few notable exceptions. A far cry from the rather sad 2024 Geneva show.

Great question Sid. Some of the concepts blew me away but perhaps the JCW Mini Cooper was the winner on the day for me. Some hate the new Mini’s but I’m a fan.

VW is in big trouble as are all European carmakers right now . The boss said they’ve got 2 years unless they make big changes like lay off workers or shut factories . If the ID2 isn’t a success that’s the end of them . Audi is the worst performing as its sales in China have virtually been wiped out and VW is thinking of debadging them as China isn’t interested !
They made 23Bn profit last year…they’ll be ok

If the boss is saying that , then they’re in trouble but they aren’t the only ones , bmw and merc just announced sales down all across the board this quarter . It’s a mess out there !
The boss is trying to deliver profit to shareholders as if he decides to sacrifice margin they will appoint a new boss. Closing factories etc is not always because they can’t afford not to, it’s that they want to keep earning the same amount.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru well we shall see , it doesn’t look good for any legacy carmakers at the moment , the Chinese and Tesla are just so far ahead , and when the Chinese start building factories in Europe to circumvent the tariffs it’ll be even harder for them to. BMW saw that and don’t want the tariffs but no one listened . Anyway keep doing the videos , at least they have Motor Shows I miss ours in Birmingham , good times !

Great review of show but 80% of these cars all look the same. Take the badges off- most people would struggle to identify them. As the majority of the components in European cars seem to be made in China,why not cut costs and make all the cars in the same factory, then apply the various badges for the different “makes” when they reach the dealerships?

Couldn’t disagree more with your statement. The cyber truck is hideous and Tesla deserves to go bankrupt over it. It is the hummer of the Mid-2000 - utterly useless and an eyesore that pollutes our roads. Wedges are for kids in geometry class, not for adult men with any sense of style.

I used to enthuse about new cars but since they all went electric, it is like going to curry's for a new fridge, not interested any more, like a boring white good. No character, just like each and every other make, a battery, an electric motor, which is the same as any other electric motor, surrounded by a metal cage - tedious and dull ! That is why I have no desire to buy a new one. I have ice cars that are much better in every way.

If your French is poor, why didn't you use Google translate? Take a picture of the text and it will give you a translation immediately or if editing add the detail after.
Because I was busy, on site for 7am, self shooting for 5 hours, then editing those hours of footage, making a thumbnail and uploading an almost one hour video before 3pm in the hope that it’s still relevant by the time it goes live. Hope that helps.

Most of the Ligier cars are made to be driven without a licence.
The market is quite large because it's complicated to get your licence in France and you can't drive by yourself by whatever method you choose until you're 18, and then it's restricted for a year
Consequently, lot of 16-18 year olds have them and people who have lost their license of course (although fairly recently they introduced a 1 day training program you must pass so they aren't entirely without licence anymore.)
They have tiny engines (typically about 300cc) and are limited to 48kph so you can't drive them on motorways.
They make a terrible noise, are very underpowered and cost at least €15,000.
They are quite decent looking inside but they usually don't have things like airbags. They aren't legally obliged to crash test them either although I think Ligier do.
