Cheers Jim. My sister had a diesel Sportage 2017. Heaps of faults. And the steering issue had potential to be very dangerous. Sold it when it neared the end of the 7 year warranty. I always assumed she’d just had a lemon. Potentially not from these results.
Regarding the MG4 "gearbox/clutch", we had a MG ZS EV and the drive gear reduction box needed replacing, so I'd assume (rightly/wrongly) this just fits into the gearbox/clutch category... 🤷♂
Yes, exactly this. Older Renault Zoe’s often have issues with their reduction gearbox. It’s only one gear but I think it’s still technically a “gear box”
If it's anything like the vauxhall warranty forget it, they will wriggle out of any warranty claim that cost more than £100.00. My crankshaft pully came off, sorry not covered.
I just would never let them get away with that kind of thing. If you make enough of a noise these things get sorted in my experience. Why you should have to though is another matter.
I had a mokka electric for 48 hours, it was awful, no way it was getting 100 miles even with eco mode and no air con. Boot was sad, rear seats were sad. I could not see the point of the e-mokka
I've got the 2022 Seat Leon 1.5, it's running OK however the 2nd gear does like the cold as it doesn't slip in as easy as the other. Other than that it's doing fine.
I’d get that into the garage before the warranty expires. Don’t accept any excuses (which are likely to get thrown at you) as it should work perfectly in all conditions.
We had a 2020 mini copper manual (69 reg) from new, at 30k miles and 2 years old we kept getting drivetrain errors. Popped into dealership and they said we'll need to get inside and figure out if its a wear and tear issue or warranty cover. If its wear and tear then minimum diagnosis fee is £2400. Complete BS, sold it on the spot and ended any possible purchase of a mini ever again.
Glad you’ve named and shamed them; always worth going direct to the manufacturer when these things happens; sounds like the dealership was taking the proverbial… disgraceful!
My Kona it was the 12 v battery and Hyundai had me waiting for two weeks but the battery was so far gone I had a week to wait and it was undrivable so I got a new battery from Costco and it was only £40. The customer service was appalling,so i won't be getting another one
I think it would be helpful if WhatCar also listed the number of cars that the percentages are based on. If they have reports eg on 10 MG4s or Porsche Boxters then 90% = only 9 cars. But eg 500 Skoda Octavias needs 450 cars to hit the 90% mark. It might put the listed issues into a more useful perspective. Just a thought.
The gearbox may be the reduction gearbox. My e Nero was just fixed for free by Kia. The issue was the early e neros where a bearing fails. If the first service is not done early, the oil in the reduction box can get particles that causes a bearing to wear. Toyota have a magnetic plug to prevent this. Perhaps this is why the MG box goes. Always check the print for the first service. Eg Kia has to be done at 12 months or 10k whichever is earlier. Kid are okay if not exact but I can imagine others not being so good. Same for ICE cars as well.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru , it would be purely for my own selfish reasons as I'm thinking about buying one. I'm also aware of some of the issues. I think it would be an interesting one because it's an affordable fine looking sports car. Thanks.
I think the thing that doesn't get taken into account is how the cars are driven. Certain models are definitely abused more than others. Having said that at least it is a rough guide.
The issue with EV 12V batteries is simple. With an ICE car when the engine is on the alternator is charging the 12v but then not On you drain the battery. Ford had a massive ICE car issue with battery issues. In an EV some people think the EV battery keeps the 12V charged but this is only when fully on or going. This is why some have a “Utility mode” to not drain the battery when not moving. EG when parked up for a while. I have a simple volt meter to test my battery Is over 12.6V (12V is a dead battery) which I did with my ford focus as well and a battery emergency start pack. I go into the Scottish mountains so have to be prepared. No different if it is an EV or ICE car.
So simple that nobody has fixed it - it’s daft that new cars require the owner to carry a volt meter. The 12v issue could surely be resolved by more robust battery technology and more efficient or larger alternators. A number of EVs trickle charge the 12v from the HV even when not in use by the way.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruI only Cary a volt meter because I use it in my tech business. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother. I know some trickle charge. The E-Nero does this but only 2x/day (midnight is one) for one hour. Interesting that new Kia’s do this trickle charge 4-6x/day now to save the battery.
@@GregAnslow Yes it does but my e-nero only does this at certain times. See the videos from MrEV Andrew Till where he works it out from a battery monitor to suss out his problems. I do love my EV's even though I can not charge at home. Just a lovely driving experience. :-)
I’m really going through an extremely rough patch at the moment lost my car which I brought two years back due to engine problems costing me 5k as I had to scrap it.Was seriously thinking of going for a new juke on lease as payments are very low and bang I see this video showing Nissan Juke the least reliable car.Really worried sick now can you please advise if I will be hit with huge repair bills in the first two years and should I take the maintenance or service plan of the lease company when leasing this car
Maintenance only covers servicing and tyres and warranty should cover the rest. I’d have a chat with your Nissan dealership about any issues that the warranty would not cover (in my opinion user error/abuse and normal wearables like brake pads are the only things that shouldn’t be covered but get it from them.
Regarding the unreliable list, I loved the Range Rover comment - that they didn’t make the top three because they get nicked before they can go wrong. 😂😂😂
My MG 4 is very good, got it on a two year lease only been back to dealer for a service, due to replace it Feb 2025. Don’t know why some people have been charged for faults as the car is covered by a 7 year warranty, if that’s the case then the warranty is rubbish. Thanks Jim. Keep up the good work.
The maths is a bit..... odd. You can't have a '0' average repair cost. One paid repair for anything would make the average above 0. Makes me seriously doubt any of the figures given.
Interesting that the MG4 was so unreliable and 45% of faults had a cost on a car with a supposedly 7 year warranty when these cars have only been on the road for just over 2 years
Thanks Jim. Quote of the day from Whatcar the Nissan Juke with its appealing exterior styling…?? Think it appeals to blind people who can work their way around it and find the door handles. With 50% reliability you couldn’t pay me to have one of those.
A mate had a new Nissan qashki if it was parked for more than 3days battery went flat Nissan tried for month to fix it and in the end gave his money back he loved the car but he will never buy Nissan again
Nissan really do seem to be far more unreliable than they use to be , certainly of the large Japanese manufacturers the worst, saying typical the Juke is Sunderland built. Only thing they sell in Europe thats reliable is the micra that's built in the Clio plant in France & has many Clio parts & the complete engine range other than the hybrid. Honda may regret the merger but will Honda return to manufacturing here in Britain.
So a British made Nissan Juke was the worst performing car for reliability. Glad I heard this as I was looking at leasing one. Wondering where BMW is in this survey ?

Something weird about the MG stats - they have a 7 year warranty, so shouldn't they all have been fixed for free if the warranty is any good?
Yep, maybe the warranty isn’t…🤔

Wow, some surprises there Jim, many thanks. It's always great to have some piece of mind/concern prior to spending your hard earned cash 👍
Very true!
Thanks Jim, for another informative and interesting summary of a recent survey. Makes interesting reading.
Very welcome

That’s terrible
Hi Jim good content as usual but the recording volume was very low, much lower than normal, which is fine apart from when the adverts kick in 😮
👌
I'm amazed that the Vauxhall Astra K did not get a strong mention - in the second half of the video!
👌
The MG4 gearbox / clutch problem stems from not being able to put fuel in the filler cap as there appears to be electrical connections in the way 🤣🤣
😁

The Toyata Yaris Cross is very reliable had one 6 months not a single fault so far.

Can u do best reliable and cheapest to run insure cars for new drivers
I already have, get an Aygo / Up / Mii/C1 etc
If you can charge at home get a wee used Renault Zoe. 1/4 the cost of petrol when charging at home with no maintenance.

Something definitely iffy on stats of the mg4, gearbox? 7 year warranty should cover all faults. Maybe some anti ev or anti China people there

Well. A lot of comments on the MG here! It is a practical boring souless car with absolutely nothing of interest about it whatsoever.
