It truly is exhilarating. So much so, I've sometimes found myself getting emotional about all the achievements of the BBC when it's aired, especially when they play the sequence where they show journalists in war zones.
So I listened to this over and over until I got a sequence from it. 1. This sound track is exactly 60 seconds long 2. The beeping sounds that starts is actually counting seconds 3. The tone of the beep intensifies in the last 10 seconds to signify near end or like a bomb counter that's about to end. Very brilliant guys... Very brilliant.
The beeps go back to shortwave radio, which was used each second until the top of the hour. Some shortwave signals are merely time counters, and it always changes the beep to a higher pitch in the last 5-10 seconds before the hour. The BBC took a classic signal and made it a master piece here. Although I never knew an actual orchestra ever attempted this, it was originally a purely electronic/trance oriented theme back in the day. Of course even here the beeps and some of the instrumentals were still electro, but its a good remake for sure.

Fascinating to see the musicians behind this theme tune. I didn't realise how many orchestral instruments were used; I assumed it was mainly synthesized. It's evolved over 22 years and potentially could be around for a long time still, now it is so well recognised as the sound of BBC News. I cannot help thinking it would be suitable to introduce a declaration of martial law!

I love this tune so much, I even bought the cd directly from the composer David Lowe who based it on his Nation to Nation/ World TV mixes. Weird how its so punchy and mind grabbing. Also such a massive fan of the BBC and its orchestra, love watching them play tv themes and other well known songs.
